  1. Actually, for some strange reason, the woman's world cup is not going to have games in Toronto. It will be Montreal, Edmonton, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Ottawa and, Moncton.I also feel Canada could easily host a world cup. Yes, there would be some serious work needed but between 2 venues in Montreal and Toronto and all the new CFL stadiums being built I think we'd be covered. Remember, all the stadiums used in the 1994 world cup in the USA were all "pointy ball" football stadiums. 2. We dont have the infrastructure (proper sized football specific stadiums) to host a World Cup. We can host the 2015 Womens World Cup because of the size of the tournament. Most games are played in Toronto, Vancouver and Edmonton. A World Cup should showcase the entire country not just pockets. I would love to see it here but doubt it for 1 2018 or 2022. The CSA is planning on bidding for the 2026 World Cup. That annoucement was made in February. They better start building football specific stadiums with 40,000+ capacity now even to be looked at.
  3. The best on this was BBC Panorama investigation - FIFA's Dirty Secrets. It was a good episode to watch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKzd8G75fFc Sorry for the Spanish subtitles
  4. Moving it to the US and hosting it in the summer would be better than the current situation. Most of the FIFA World Cup sponsors are based in the US, the infrastructure including stadiums, air ports, major commute systems are already in place but require some "minor" upgrading, the temperatures here in North America are a lot more tolerable than the 120-130 degrees F in the Middle East. Take it from me, I worked in the UAE during the summer months and it is the most unbearable you will ever think.
  5. FIFA just opened preliminary proceedings into corruption and collusion of the 2022 World Cup bidding process as well as the voting process. There are allegations of bribery of senior FIFA officials before the voting by the FIFA Executive Council. I am hoping this farce is finally brought to light, the crooks and frauds are brought to justice, and the 2022 World Cup is awarded to one of the other two bidders from that year.
  6. You find very few retirement or championship banners in stadiums don't have s common concept between them with subtle changes like era logos. Yes I know Boston TD Gardens are pretty close to the same but very few others. I dont know why teams need to keep changing from a proven formula. Just looks shotty and rushed.
  7. Most likely for higher visibility... stands out more from that distance.
  8. Love how Lidstrom's banner look, clean and crisp. Though I'm a fan of the banners of retired players with their photos in black/white watermarked...thing of beauty
  9. Which arena/stadium has the best championship and retired number banners?
  10. Football Arsenal - My grandfather was raised in North London antd use to go matches at Highbury in their glory years. I remember growing up and having my grandfather tell me stories about Arsenal teams of the past. Loved the stories and fell in love with Weighty, Viera, Bergkamp, Keown, Henry, Winterburn....what a side. Victoria Highlanders FC - I've been supporting my local USL PDL side since the formation of the club in 2008. I''ve always been involved in the supporters section here at Royal Athletic Park, with the last two years being the president of the supporters group , the Lake Side Buoys. I love how close we are with the club front office and players. They come over to talk us supporters after every match. Plus we supporters have a say in the clubs direction. Season ticket holders are 30% stake holders in the club. We are the only football club in North America that are supporter owned. Vancouver Whitecaps FC - due to my close proximity to Vancouver Sydney Swans - I was in Sydney in 2003 and was hooked on AFL when I went to see Sydney v Hawthorns at the SCG. I have supported them ever since.
  11. I must say great idea and thread for highlighting to best concepts on the board. I am a fan of America League and Fonts By Conrad. Definite consideration should be Raysox's US Soccer 2030...beauty at work
  12. I am an individual who likes it when a team uses the same color scheme and template for all their banners throughout their history. So I think Philadelphia did the right thing here. Though I still don't know what Anahiem is doing with their banners and trying to remove their Disney-esc original colored banners. That is part of their history...
  13. At the Emirates Stadium in North London, Arsenal FC don't use banners but have all their honors printed between the lower and upper bowls with the competition they won and the year. I was wondering if anyone has designed championship winner banners using Inkscape. Love to do some for my club Arsenal...
