I think we can all agree..

    Big Ten's Wishlist

    Arizona

    Arizona State

    Colorado

    Oregon

    Washington

The Big 12 would happily take whoever the Big Ten decides to pass on, as the Pac-12 disolves. Utah doesn't strike me as an elite program the Big Ten would want. They would make sense for the new Big 12 with BYU also being there. However, I also think the Big 12 is content on carrying exactly twelve programs, like their name indicates.

I don't see the B1G taking both Arizona schools, U of Arizona fits the B1G mold academic wise.

Blue collar isn’t exactly the word I wanted to use there, but I’m struggling to come up with something that gets my overall point across while simultaneously not being unintentionally inflammatory.

If you meant conservative(note the small c) that segment of both the NHL and NBA ticket buyers has been aging out since well before the pandemic.

I think it's a lot simpler even if I agree that there's some of that subtext in what the NHL is doing:

Gary Bettman was hired from the NBA. Gary Bettman wanted to make the NHL as big as the NBA. So he expanded into non-traditional markets like the NBA, experimented with ridiculous uniform trends like the NBA, had lockouts like the NBA and now wants to have engagement on social media like the NBA. Slow monkey see, slow monkey do three years later.

The NHL had to expand into "non-traditional" markets due to population decline in "traditional" markets, plus the owners wanted the expansion fee money, "copying" the NBA wasn't the reason.

You're not wrong, but here's two exceptions.  Top pics that were by-in-large the catalysts for two separate elite eras.

Why would the NHL rig the Crosby lottery for the Penguins? The Rangers also had three balls in the pot and the Kings, Blackhawks and Ducks each had two, if they were going to rig it one of the big market teams would have won.

Surprising that Philadelphia seems to be the epicenter, at least for reported cases. If the cancer was somehow caused by prolonged inhaling of heated chemicals in the turf, why aren't there more cases from the midwest where it tends to be warmer? Two cases listed were from Kansas City, but none have been reported so far from Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, St. Louis, or even Chicago (old Comiskey had a turf infield for many years in the 70s).

I'm sure there were plenty of minor league stadiums using that turf as well. And while football players wouldn't have the same length of time on the turf during the hottest part of the year, maybe there are unreported cases in some other outdoor turf fields in the south, like the Orange Bowl, Tulane Stadium, and Cotton Bowl.

Even on newer turf fields, unless they're using natural infills like sand and coconut shells, the heated crumb rubber can give off fumes, making it very hard to breathe, and sports where players spend a lot of time stationary can be very hazardous in the heat.

Three Rivers had 3M's Tartan Turf from 1970 to 1982, they switched to AstroTurf in 1983 and then got a newer version of AstroTurf  in 1992 or 1993. Could the timing of when AstroTurf was installed at Three Rivers cause that field to have a different chemical make-up compared to the Vet or Kaufman Stadium?

I don’t know man. By the strictest of interpretations this is a penalty, but it also seems like Mahomes embellished the rather minimal contact to make it look worse than it was.

How many other times have we seen that exact scenario but the offensive player doesn’t go down so a penalty isn’t called? It happens all the time. The sprit of the rule was to save players from taking unnecessary hard hits, not from the lightest of touches.

Offenses, and QB’s specifically, already get so much protection from officials and the rulebook changes that put limitations on what defenses can do. This just seems too harsh of a penalty to end a team’s season, especially more so given the dodgy/questionable calls the Chiefs had been getting from the officials the whole 4th quarter.

Again, by letter of the rule, it’s a penalty (I feel deeply for Ossai who looked absolutely distraught after the game), and you can make the correct argument that Ossai should never have even touched Mahomes so the refs wouldn’t have come into play there, but all the same it’s a tough way to end a season.

Mahomes didn't embellish anything, Oassai not only pushed Mahomes in the back, his foot in stride hit the bottom of Mahomes foot which sent Mahomes down. That penalty is going to be called 100% of the time at all levels of football, there's no grand conspiracy its just the Bungles being the Bungles.

Are football fans in Pittsburgh gonna become Maulers fans if they go by Canton or Ohio? Probably not. Call them Pittsburgh, and that's their team. That's who they're gonna latch on to. Then, in year 3, if they put each team in their own home city, you've established your fanbase ahead of time.

I think only a handful of people in the Greater Pittsburgh Area even know there's a new Maulers, having a team with Pittsburgh in the name but playing in Canton isn't going to establish a fan base, it's just going to confuse people.

I'm not sure if the USFL couldn't make a deal with Highmark Stadium or they thought it was too small, but if it was their choice to not play there they made a mistake. 5,000 fans in a unique stadium located in the city the team is named after makes more sense than playing in-front of 5,000 fans in a 25,000 seat stadium over 100 miles away, if they can even draw 5,000 fans in Canton.

I just don’t want the NFL to make a neutral site Conference Championship Game a precedent going forward. Feels like the NFL would try and pull a “let no crisis go waste” move if they could get away with it.

As for teams squabbling about playoff locations and whatnot, it’s to be expected, especially considering that Hamlin’s recovery has been rapid so far. Moments of unity are special because they’re so rare and fleeting.

I doubt that the owners would want natural site Conference Championship Games, they like those deposits on two or three rounds of playoff tickets that can rolled into a deposit on season tickets if they get eliminated. Interest baby!

Am I the only one that always thought the Super Bowl bye week was dumb regardless? I feel like it halts the momentum of the playoffs more than it builds hype. I don't see why the teams couldn't just fly to the game city Tuesday and still have the media week if it's so important.

The teams want that extra week to rest up players, have more time to game plan, deal with all of the logistics of playing in a Super Bowl and so on.

You see, if the NFL wasn't greedy and added an extra week, pushing back the schedule wouldn't be as big a deal.

As it is, I get why they would want to push it back a week, but by the same token, I don't like the idea of teams losing a needed bye week before the Super Bowl.

They can't push the Super Bowl back a week and the teams want the extra week before the Super Bowl, they're in a real pickle.

Actually, the SEC hasn't really gone outside their territory. The Big Ten, for the most part, hadn't. Yeah they went a little east with Rutgers and Maryland, but they maintained a continuous border. Now, they are definitely chasing the biggest markets, while the SEC is just merely expanding within what can be considered their region. Missouri is the only one that's not considered "the south", but, taking into account the entire state, we border (soon to be with the addition of Oklahoma) four SEC states. Plus, where I live, is more southern/southern plains (i.e. Oklahoma/Texas) culture than what's perceived to be typical midwest culture.

If the Big  Ten adds Colorado and either of the Arizona schools they could still be contiguous!

I know he's a rookie, so it's not fair to be too hard on him, but man, did Pickett throw that game away.

Steelers were driving, but he got greedy and threw an INT instead of just going out of bounds for the 1st down.

The only INT that was purely Pickett's fault was the 2nd one, the first was all on the Claypool who tripped or was tripped, on the last one Johnson just stopped playing, he should have been at the pylon or cut to the middle of the field. Both Pickett and Trubisky have been hampered by the Steelers WR's and TE's dropping passes, running the wrong route and so on.

McDaniel isn't a good coach, I'm baffled by everyone acting like he's something special.

The insane attendance at Acrisure Stadium should tell people what rivalries mean and why they need kept

As a Pitt fan the build up this week and the game last night were amazing! The schools need to lock the game into the Thursday before Labor Day slot long term, the next three years they'll play the second or third week of the season.

That reminds me; my simplest realignment plan, involving no expansion or relocation. Just swap Colorado and Seattle.

      NATIONAL LEAGUE
    WEST CENTRAL EAST
Arizona Diamondbacks Chicago Cubs Atlanta Braves
Los Angeles Dodgers Cincinnati Reds Miami Marlins
San Diego Padres Milwaukee Brewers New York Mets
San Francisco Giants Pittsburgh Pirates Philadelphia Phillies
Seattle Mariners St. Louis Cardinals Washington Nationals

      AMERICAN LEAGUE
    WEST CENTRAL EAST
Colorado Rockies Chicago White Sox Baltimore Orioles
Houston Astros Cleveland Indians Boston Red Sox
Los Angeles Angels Detroit Tigers New York Yankees
Oakland Athletics Kansas City Royals Tampa Bay Rays
Texas Rangers Minnesota Twins Toronto Blue Jays

Along with moving the Pirates to the NL East and Atlanta to the NL Central.

    Or Rolling Rock...or Iron City...

...Or maybe PNC. That's a Pittsburgh institution,  too. Shoot, it wouldn't be the first time the same company bought the naming rights to two different arenas in the same city (looking at you, Target in Minneapolis).

But beyond that...yeah, I got nothing.

Rolling Rock hasn't been brewed in Western PA since 2006, most people in the region stopped buying it after InBev/Anheuser-Busch stopped production in Latrobe and put a lot of people out of work. Iron City doesn't have the money for any kind of naming rights.

The naming rights for PNC Park and Heinz Field were both originally up at the same time, I was surprised that PNC move their name to the football stadium, the company has grown massively since they purchased the baseball stadium rights in 1998.
