Mystifies me. We have no problem putting soccer on unrelated channels when they do the last matchday of the season thing and want to show it all. It's Saturday morning! Why not? We'll see, I get that the Tour is a big draw and a weird conflict. But my local regular NBC affiliate is rolling with Vets Saving Pets and some travel show early in the morning on Saturday. Come on!

I have no idea what is even on USA Network anymore. I'm sure my Hulu would be able to find it for me if there was soccer on, though.

Those Vet Saving Pets type of shows are so the local affiliates can reach their FCC mandated E/I content hours, stations usually run them later in the morning since those 7AM to 10AM local newscasts and network morning shows bring in revenue.

Big 12 wouldnt be bad a fit. Still a ways from Iowa and Kansas but better than Northern Illinois in the MAC and better than Air Force, Colorado State and Wyoming.

As for Cincinnati I see them in the Big 12 to help out West Virginia or in the ACC, renewing rivalries with Pitt and Louisville as well at Notre Dame in basketball.

Pitt never had a rivalry with Cincy, sure the old Big East gave them a trophy to play for but no one cared. Pitt's rivals are Penn State and West Virginia and thanks to the nonsensical alignment of conferences they no longer play yearly. Outside of money it makes no sense for Pitt to be in a conference with Florida State, Penn State to be in a conference with Nebraska and West Virginia to be in a conference with Texas Tech, part of me wants the tv money bubble to break in the next few years leading to everything being reset to make more sense geographically.

On conference expansion, don't South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and maybe Kentucky have a pact blocking any school from their respective states from joining the SEC? Both the SEC and B1G want to expand their footprint so don't be shocked if they strike at the ACC with the SEC taking Virginia Tech & NC State and the B1G taking UVA & North Carolina. If the SEC and B1G are able to pull that off the Big 12 will swoop in and pick apart the ACC's bones, FSU and Clemson if they only want to expand to 12 then Pitt, Louisville, GT and Miami if they want to jump up to 16. Also there's been talk recently that the Big 12 would raid the PAC-12 but I can't see the likes of USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington and Colorado wanting to be in the same conference as West Virginia(distance), TCU & Baylor(secular), the Arizona schools get a ton of students and athletes from California so it's hard to see them cutting ties with the four California schools.

    My undergrad degree comes from....

Which is affiliated with neither Indiana University nor University of Pennsylvania, but is part of the "of Pennsylvania" state system of higher education and located in Indiana PA (the christmas tree capital of the world... and kinda sorta home of Jimmy Stewart.)

There's also the California University of Pennsylvania in California, PA.

Whose idea was it to put the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC South? Indy is nowhere near the southern US. Cincinnati Bengals would have been a better fit, because they're on the border with Kentucky.  Or Miami, but I guess they don't want two Florida teams in the same division.

Everyone involved wanted to keep the Bengals, Steelers, New Browns and Old Browns together due to their longstanding rivalries.

So from what I’m gathering, the NL should look like this:

    North-

    Chicago Cubs

    Cincinnati Reds

    Milwaukee Brewers

    New York Mets

    East-

    Montreal MLB Team

    Pittsburgh Pirates

    Philadelphia Phillies

    Washington Nationals

    South-

    Atlanta Braves

    Colorado Rockies

    Miami Marlins

    St. Louis Cardinals

    West-

    Arizona Diamondbacks

    Los Angeles Dodgers

    San Diego Padres

    San Francisco Giants

If it was my decision not much would change from the current setup. The only way North and South divisions wouldn’t be a killer time zone wise(Denver is two time zones from half their division) is if the NL and AL were radically altered or done away with.

There are no Central Divisions in this scenario. To answer your question, I simply based it off the fact that even though Pittsburgh may be more east than Cincinnati, it’s still more northern. I also wanted to keep Pittsburgh and Philadelphia in separate divisions just how they are now. I definitely found the NL realignment more difficult than the AL.

Why have Pittsburgh and Philly in separate divisions? Back in the day it was one of the fiercest rivalries in baseball and if they ever were in a race for the division crown it would instantly heat up again.

In the event of a two-team MLB expansion that adds Montreal (NL) and Portland (AL) to up the league to 32 teams

    American League

    North-

    Chicago White Sox

    Detroit Tigers

    Minnesota Twins

    Toronto Blue Jays

    East-

    Baltimore Orioles

    Boston Red Sox

    Cleveland Indians

    New York Yankees

    South-

    Houston Astros

    Kansas City Royals

    Tampa Bay Rays

    Texas Rangers

    West-

    Los Angeles Angels

    Oakland Athletics

    Portland MLB Team

    Seattle Mariners

    National League

    North-

    Chicago Cubs

    Milwaukee Brewers

    Montreal MLB Team

    Pittsburgh Pirates

    East-

    Cincinnati Reds

    New York Mets

    Philadelphia Phillies

    Washington Nationals

    South-

    Atlanta Braves

    Colorado Rockies

    Miami Marlins

    St. Louis Cardinals

    West-

    Arizona Diamondbacks

    Los Angeles Dodgers

    San Diego Padres

    San Fransisco Giants

Why are the Pirates and Montreal in the Central and the Reds in the East? As much as I hate that the Pirates are currently in the Central and Atlanta is in the East, in the scenario above the new Montreal team should definitely be in the East.

My thought is that they're doing on in Philly because the first one that ended up in Pittsburgh was intended to be a neutral site in State College.  I guess this give them a home and home series to be fair.

As a Penguin fan I'm happy they're not playing in State College, the town and Penn State were barely punished for the Sandusky cover up and the residents and fan base attitude towards the whole scandal is disgusting.

Yeah, Vegas hits you with GAMBLING! almost literally after stepping off the plane.

True but teams will be flying in and out of charter terminals which don't have slot machines and the teams can book rooms in non-casino hotels like Vdara or the Trump hotel. For the Golden Knights and eventually the Raiders, the club scene will be where we see players getting into trouble or slacking off from partying to much.

  10. Wont politicians in Virginia and North Carolina get involved if Virginia Tech and NC State get left in the cold? There's precedent in Virginia since the state legislature got involved during the ACC's first raid of the Big East which lead to VT getting in over Syracuse. Something similar could happen in North Carolina with NC State and it wouldn't be surprising to see Duke and Wake Forest alumni with political power get involved too. Remember Texas Gov. Anne Richards and fellow Baylor alums in the Texas state legislature blocked Texas and Texas A&M from moving to the PAC-1O and/or SEC and got Baylor into the Big 12 over Houston which is a state school.

  11. The BCS is dead and any chance of a playoff is also dead if the Pac-16 and Big Ten+6 happen. There's no reason for any of the three parties to be part of the BCS or playoff with the insane amount of money the conference championship games and Rose Bowl will now make.

The SEC and Sugar Bowl will most likely cut a deal to take the most attractive at-large school, like they did back in the day.

  12. Just thought of another reason Pitt might not want to move. Over the past 10 years some of their best basketball recruits have come from NYC. Would these players be less likely to choose Pitt if they aren't going to be playing infront of their hometown fans every year at MSG during the Big East tournament?

They could make up for it by being in as many NYC area pre-season tourney's along with scheduling the likes of St. John's, and Seton Hall in non-conference games.

  13. Pitt is such a staple of Big East basketball it would be tough for them to leave.

Syracuse,Pitt and Georgetown that is Big East Basketball. This is more than just CFB and the BCS.

It's all about football for Pitt and Syracuse, Big East football is dead if they lose another team, they can't make that up in basketball money.

  14. I'm pretty sure they do resod it, because it looked pretty good for the PITT vs. Cinci game a couple of weeks ago.

I'm not sure why they play the WPIAL games there anyway, since they're not even the state championship games, and they get less than 20 K fans total for all four games. This year, they only pre-sold 6K tickets, and got a max of 6K game-day sales. Seems like kind of a waste.

They do it for the kids, it's a big deal for them to play at Heinz.

Yeah, I get that. It just seems that they shouldn't sacrafice an event as big as a college championship game for state semi-final football games, since there are probably other more-than-suitable venues elsewhere. Actually, unless they were going to play at IUP, Clarion, Slippery Rock, or one of those other D2 schools, there's probably not.

There really isn't anywhere central enough in the WPIAL area that could host it. Also they would have no problem re-sodding the field after the WPIAL games for a game the next weekend, they did it this year with no problem.

  16. The Big Ten also pools research money and Pitt blows the other potential candidates out of the water in this category.

    Total Research Expenditures (2006)

    Pitt: $530,162,000

    Rutgers: $280,994,000

    Missouri: $215,240,000

    Syracuse: $ 36,100,000

    Total Federal Research Expenditures (2006)

    Pitt: $422,316,000

    Rutgers: $118,732,000

    Missouri: $101,732,000

    Syracuse: $ 25,299,000

Cincy, WVU, UConn and Kentucky have no shot, the University presidents will be the ones voting on the new member and those are not the schools they want academically.
