As a Flyers fan - I'm here for all of this. Fantastic work. Personally - I'd love to have a black version of that orange jersey as well, but overall 10/10.

I'm always happy when fans of the teams like the concepts! A black version of the home/road design would also work well for an alternate. I challenged myself to make each alternate a different looking uniform than the home and road, so that would be the reason why I chose to not do that.

  2. Philadelphia Flyers

Many concepts I see for the Flyers get rid of the shoulder and arm stripe design they've used for decades. I don't fully understand why, it's quite unique in the NHL and that's hard to come by for striping patterns. I used a design based on uniforms they first wore in 1982, which also were used for the Reverse Retro design inspiration. I also removed the different coloured name bar, which has always been my least favourite aspect of the Flyers uniforms.

    spacer.png

I came up with a logo I think most concepts include, a Liberty Bell logo. The black alternate is a no brainer, the Flyers have had many black alternates over the years. I wasn't a fan of the only orange and black alternate, so I brought the off white colour back into the mix.

For the City uniform, it always seems like my alternate logos fit perfectly with the City theme. I recoloured the bell logo to be closer to the actual colours of the bell. In designing the concept, the initial idea was to centre around the Bell and include stripes with the colours of the Philly pro sports teams. It all came together better than I imagined. The four stripes can be connected to the Quakers uniforms, but the colours also connect to the Spectrum arena, that the Flyers called home from 1967-1996. The red and blue represent the Phillies and Sixers, the orange is the Flyers of course, and I went with the kelly green for the Eagles. In addition to those details, I added the first paragraph of the US Constitution, which was signed in Philadelphia, to the front and back of the uniform. It's hard to see, but it's meant to be a detail only seen from up close. It's probably my favourite executed City uniform, just with all the details falling into place, even when I didn't mean them to originally haha.

  3. Ottawa Senators

Up next is the Senators. Their most recent rebrand/uniform update was pretty disappointing for me. Don't get me wrong, it was 1000% better than their previous set, but that doesn't mean it was good. I was unimpressed with the lack of an update to the logo or uniform design. I went with something new, using ideas I think everyone uses for Sens uniform concepts. I used their greatest logo they never really used. I know Sens fans hate it for some reason, but design wise, it's the best logo they've ever released. The only thing I changed on the logo was making the arrow type details on the gold a darker shade of gold to match the pattern I put on the uniform. I also brought back the Peace Tower logo for the shoulder patch. If anything, I maybe didn't include enough red on the home and road, but I was pretty pleased with how it all turned out anyway.

    spacer.png

For the alternate uniform, I combined the O logo with the alternate shield logo they used from 2011-2020. I also went with the sleeve striping from their earlier years. Just not on the entire uniform, because that's a little busy for me.

The city uniform uses the Peace Tower logo front and centre, as it represents Ottawa pretty well, being a big landmark in Ottawa. It uses the city of Ottawa flag colours, as well as the jersey striping from a couple different uniforms the Sens have worn for special events. Nothing too crazy, but I think it fits pretty well.

  4. New York Rangers

It's time to get semi controversial haha. Not really, but I think there might be some Rangers or hockey fans that will really hate the changes I made to the Rangers uniforms. And maybe many that will love it, those who hate word marks on uniforms. The Rangers word mark is a timeless classic, so maybe it's time to cement that part of history and move on to a more modern look, and actually use their primary logo on the uniform for the first time in a long time. I kept the jersey striping intact except I removed the busy striping on the shoulders for the road uniform. I didn't think it added enough, and really makes it feel super busy. I ever so slightly tweaked the Rangers crest logo, and if you can spot the difference, I'll be slightly impressed. (without comparing side by side to their current logo)

The Rangers home and road look is a classic, but maybe a slight change like this is long past due. It is for me, and that's why this series is My Ideal NHL haha.

    spacer.png

Once upon a time I saw a logo concept for the Rangers that replaced the grey with the actual green colour of the Statue of Liberty. So I used that idea. I don't remember where I saw it, but I won't take credit for that idea. The alternate is pretty much a replica of the former Liberty jersey, with the green replacing grey. It's a no brainer for an alternate uniform.

For the City uniforms, the diagonal script returns! I couldn't keep it away for too long. I including the striping from the logo on the front to act like a sash as well. The arm and waist striping, as well as the star on the shoulders is a tribute to the New York Americans uniforms. And it's hard to see, purposefully, but on the arms, there is a light grey silhouette of the Statue of Liberty on the right, and a silhouette of the One World Trade Center on the left. Two architectural icons in the city of New York.

I too enjoy the fisherman logo, but I doubt I'd be brave enough to bring back that striping pattern. 😅

I tried to really simplify that striping pattern, but I like the wave pattern, it's just so different from the rest of the NHL and I love when teams are unique. Like the Hurricanes warning flag pattern. Unique.

  6. I'll be the first to admit that New Jersey won't be one of my favourites in this series. So why don't we just move along to a concept that is one of my favourites...

    New York Islanders

I'd say it's a pretty popular choice to go back to the Fisherman logo. You really either love it or you hate it. But I'm all in favour of the Islanders going back to this look, if anything to stand out further from the rest of the league. It's unique and I think that's what the NHL needs a bit more of. Not saying every team should bring back past looks for sake of uniqueness, but maybe it's something the Islanders should do. I cleaned up both the primary and shoulder logos with the minor details, that you might not notice without looking close. I also updated the wave striping on the home and road set. One of the worst things ever done with the previous Fisherman uniform was the numbers that followed the waves. It looked messy. That's gone. Back to a regular, legible number and name font.

    spacer.png

For the alternate, I brought back the NY logo which I actually love quite a bit. It also comes along with a familiar striping pattern, with a bit of teal added in.

The city uniform focuses on Long Island, with my slightly modified Islanders logo, their current primary that features the shape of Long Island. The gradient came about by accident but I really liked how it looked, so I thought why not.

  7. New Jersey Devils

I have a feeling that this set might have a love/hate dynamic haha. I used the unused logo from 1982, with some slight modifications. Nothing is wrong with the current logo, I just kind of like this one a bit better. Of course I brought back the green, and I used the uniform style for the home, and matched it on the away. One might say, the black numbers feel out of place, but with the amount of black on the logo, it felt off not having black anywhere else on the uniform, but I also didn't want black to be prominent in the striping either. So I compromised with the numbers and equipment. Similar to what the Avalanche used to do I guess.

    spacer.png

For the alternate, in my personal opinion, I think I improved the design that the Devils released this year. I kept the similar striping pattern but added some actual colour, I also created a new logo that doesn't just say 'Jersey' so it can't become a meme, together with the state outline.

For the city uniform, I may have mailed this one in a little bit haha. But because I went back to the green and red look, I thought a city jersey for New Jersey could be a throwback to the uniform they wore when they won the cup in 1995. (And also wore until 2016) And maybe because I also couldn't think of a solid idea for the city jersey. The flag colours and design didn't present very many options. It's probably my least creative city jersey, but I'm willing to have a couple of those in the series.

I'd love to see the end result of a Lightning concept that combines the Tampa flag with this beauty.

I must ask, is this something Tampa fans would want? I'm not sure what to make of this lol, but it would present a creative challenge to take this on for a city uniform for the Lightning. Definitely something I could try to work into the uniform set for Tampa Bay😅

The home and away for Nashville look great.

The alternate really needs one more stripe on the middle, especially as you've got 6 stripes on the numbers. The "keyboard" pattern on the waist of the city jersey looks weird as hell, actually making it a keyboard pattern (as on the inside of the collar of the other three jerseys) would be a huge improvement.

This is the first case I have gone back to implement changes based on a comment so far this series. Mostly because I messed up bad on that piano pattern lol. I completely forgot to make it look like an actual piano, so I fixed that. That was the plan, to make it look like a piano, I just work too fast sometimes. I also added in the 6 stripe idea, that does make a lot more sense. Thanks for pointing these things out!

  10. 7 hours ago, eegl75 said:

nashville looks great, especially the logo.  i would remove the piano stripe though or at least tone it down. it looks very ECHL

That would be for the city uniform, most of my city uniforms have been a little out of the box, but that's kind of what I'm going for. Something that represents the city, but doesn't really fit into the mould of the typical NHL uniform. The fact it looks ECHL kinda of falls into what I'm going for haha. It would be like what the NBA does with their city uniforms. A one season thing, and they can get crazy.

  11. Nashville Predators

I haven't received much for comments with the last few teams, but I'd really love to hear about Nashville, I think it's one of my favourites. Not because I did some crazy new striping, but because of how the new primary logo turned out. I used the shoulder logo from the Preds Winter Classic uniform and updated it, added some white, some details from the current primary. I think the current Preds logo is fine, but once I saw that shoulder logo, I just loved that one more. I didn't really change the striping but I made it feel like there's more blue. I made the helmets blue like they should be. I think this new logo option just fits better. I'm biased but I love how this looks.

    spacer.png

For the alternate I went with the obvious guitar pick logo and the 5 lines across for the music aspect. I think that pretty much describes that. The city jersey was easy and hard at the same time. Because I used a music aspect for the alternate, I didn't want to just copy it. I brought the piano keys to the waist, and altered the guitar pick logo to look like the neon lights down Broadway. I did a similar thing for the numbers. This has been my favourite team so far, but there is even better teams coming up, so stay tuned! And C&C is very much appreciated.

(Updated the alternate and city. 6 stripes added for the alternate and the keys pattern was updated to look like the actual piano)

  12. Montreal Canadiens

Montreal is another team with a solid home uniform and an away that I wished matched the home. So that is exactly what I've done. Now it's not all that creative because I think the Habs wore that version of a uniform at one point in the last 20 years, but I think it brings the set together better. Fits more into my Ideal NHL look.

    spacer.png

For the alternate, I could've taken the super easy route and just went with the reverse retro design. And before the RR uniforms came out, I would've done that, but I wanted it to be different. So I've gone with a mixture of a retro and modern uniform. The logo is one of their classic logos, and specifically not the logo that makes them look like the Leafs. They paired this logo with a sash across the uniform, but that's a little too bold for me, so I went with the subtle sash across the front of the uniform, with some striping on the arms and waist. I think it still feels like the Habs, even with it being very different from any other uniform they've worn.

The city uniform is once again based on the flag, the arm striping comes straight from it. I had to include the fleur de lis, and maybe it's too close to the Nordiques, which I did notice, but oh well. The Habs are Quebec's team, and the Nordiques don't exist currently, so it stays. The logo combines a version of the Montreal C, with the logo of Montreal.

  13. Minnesota Wild

Not too much change for the home and road for Minnesota. The home stays the same, and the road now matches the home. I don't know if the NHL allows a non-white road jersey, but it's my ideal NHL, so they do now haha. I also created a new shoulder logo for them as well. I think the Wild might have one of the best logos in the NHL and this is coming from a Jets fan.

    spacer.png

The alternate and city jersey both take ideas from the recent Winter Classic uniform. Mainly just the logo. The alternate features the MN state outline logo, as well as the striping pattern from the reverse retro/north stars uniform, but in current Minnesota colours.

The city uniform uses the state of hockey logo that was worn on the pants at the Winter Classic. I made the base colour blue because Minnesota is known as the Land of 10,000 Lakes. The jersey striping is based on the Minneapolis Millers uniforms from 1932 that I found on a Minnesota hockey history website. I also changed the red to light blue on the shoulder Wild logo.

I'd prefer if the shoulders on the white were bare, but I'd still buy it either way. The red seems odd on the alt, but I've wanted everything else about it for so long. Good work!

Thank you! I added the red on the alternate just so the numbers would be easier to read. It stands out a bit more than the gold or white would on the horizontal striping.

  15. Los Angeles Kings

The LA Kings. I think I went with what probably most people wish the Kings would do. Bringing back the purple and gold. I think they call it forum blue, which I don't fully understand, it's purple. Anyway, I went with a classic logo, but modernized it. A new crown logo, the updated Kings word mark, and a cleaner san serif font for the Los Angeles. The LA from the stadium series uniform becomes the new shoulder logo. I think this works perfectly as a blend behind the past and the future.

    spacer.png

For the alternate, I returned to their current black, silver, and white look. I think it's a clean look, it's just a little bland for a full time home and road set for me. But as an alternate, it works. It features the new crown logo, and some textured shiny silver striping. It's essentially the current home uniform without the out of place piping down the arms and shoulders.

I'm sure everyone first saw the City uniform. It stands out quite a bit. So let me break down some of my design choices here. The layout comes from the stadium series uniform, and the colours represent the beach, which LA is known for. From what I've heard at least haha. I also didn't want every city uniform to be based on a flag, and maybe for some to be a little more out there. The white outline on the shoulder yoke symbolizes a halo, to coincide with LA's nickname, the City of Angels. It's a bit more out there for a city uniform, but out there is sometimes what I'm going for.

  16. Florida Panthers

I loved the new logos that Florida released with their newest redesign. Particularly the shoulder/arm logo, and the leaping cat logo. Not so much the shield logo. So in my ideal world, the leaping cat becomes the primary. I also loved the reverse retro the Panthers wore last season, it was one of my favourites in the league. The home and road are based on the reverse retro, but I kept the red for the home base colour.

    spacer.png

I've seen an alternate uniform similar to this in the past, and I loved the originality of it. I'm not sure who's design I first saw use the horizontal stripe panther logo, but I definitely took inspiration from that. Red for the numbers so they'll pop on the uniform.

And the city uniform. Seems like the pink/blue combo is something often thought up for teams in Florida. And the Panthers playing close to Miami, it is what I decided to go with. Mostly for the sunset vibe, as I've done with a few teams already. I maybe didn't go as neon as the Miami vice uniforms the Heat wear, but maybe that's for the best. The flag inspired Panthers logo was a no brainer to use for the city uniform.

Similar to what Francis10 said about the Calgary design, those of us old enough to remember NHL hockey in the late 70s/very early 80s may find your city jersey logo very familiar:

Perhaps unknowingly, you've yet again created a neat throwback hearkening.

This is a uniform I knew about, just didn't think about when I was designing that uniform apparently haha. But once again, I've stumbled into a uniform that works as a throwback and city uniform in one. Hopefully I can do that a couple more times in this series.

The issue I have with these is that you could swap out Blasty for the flying skate logo and these would just be Canucks jerseys.

My counter point would be that I based them off of the reverse retro Flames uniform. It is almost 100% the same uniform as the reverse retro. I also won't use the skate uniform for the Canucks in my ideal NHL world. I do see your point, but the 2 identities, the Flames and the Canucks use 2 completely different colour schemes.

  19. Edmonton Oilers

There's nothing really new with the Oilers home and road. The ideal look for me is a return to their royal blue/orange look, with the royal blue home uniform. Their uniforms are already good with just that simple switch.

    spacer.png

I made the return to the flying oil drop logo. It's my favourite Oilers logo, and utilizing the bronze and navy just made sense to me for the alternate. I hate their current navy and orange alternate. It's easily the worst uniform they've ever worn in my opinion. So I present this option as a replacement. You can see in the arm stripe the small detail of an oil drop, as well as a metal texture in the logo just to add those details.

The city uniforms borrows straight from the city flag. Colours and designs. It's another one of those teams where I couldn't nail down a theme for the city jersey, so I went with the flag design. And what Edmonton and Alberta are about is oil, which is already represented pretty well in their name and regular look

  20. Detroit Red Wings

Very minimal changes to the Red Wings home and away. Just a simple striping change. I used to hate 2 colour teams, it was too simple for me. But I've learned to really appreciate and like the look the Red Wings have. They just don't need to change that much. It's pretty ideal to begin with.

    spacer.png

The alternate uniform is essentially a flipped version of their 2014 Winter Classic uniform, with the D script logo on the front. Once again, minimal changes and keeping it pretty classic.

Now the City uniform is where things get crazy. This is where Red Wings fans might come after me lol. I went with the striping from their 1927/28 uniforms. I used the colours from the Detroit city flag, and I went with the term 'Hockeytown' on the front rather than Motor City. I think Hockeytown just makes sense for the Red Wings. The Detroit Pistons have the Motor City uniforms, and the Red Wings can have Hockeytown. And I checked, Hockeytown is one word. I didn't continue the red stripe to the back, just so the numbers would be easier to read. It's definitely an out there style of uniform, especially for Detroit. But it's a city uniform, I felt if one uniform could seriously break the mould, it would be this one. I am learning a lot about different city and state flags in the process which is fun as well.

  21. Dallas Stars

I think the obvious move for any Dallas Stars uniform concept is to use the original star striping on the uniform. So I went with that. I did modify the primary logo, making the star sit straight, so the striping would fit a little nicer. I also used the winter classic logo in a more prominent role for Dallas, on the shoulders for the home and road and later on as the crest on the alternate.

    spacer.png

I'll be the first to admit that when the Stars put out their neon green alternate, I hated it. But I've grown to love it, especially as an alternate. It stands out from their other set which works perfectly for an alternate uniform. I somewhat combined their current alternate look with the winter classic look, adding some white detail into the uniform. For the city uniform, I went with the Dallas flag design, with some unique features including the star on the arm and different striping than the chest. I think horizontal chest stripes can get boring when they're used so often, so to add some difference in there, I didn't keep that chest stripe going onto the arms. I think it breaks it up enough to keep it different from other horizontal chest stripe teams. The colours make sense especially when you consider the Stars played around with red and blue when redesigning their current logos and uniforms. They eventually went with victory green, but concepts exist with the red and blue.

  22. Columbus Blue Jackets

This will definitely be a favourite of mine out of all the concepts in the series. I like Columbus' road uniform but was never too fond of the home, with the blue shoulder/arm striping matching the uniform. So I switched it out to white and made the red stripe thicker. Same on the road. The biggest change is the cannon logo being used as the primary logo. In my opinion its a much better logo. I also went with blue pants. I think that may be the biggest thing Blue Jackets fans might have a problem with, but I think the blue pants just work better. And there will be other blue, red, and white teams that use red pants in this series, so it helps differentiate from them as well.

    spacer.png

The alternate is my favourite part about this set. It's red which doesn't technically make sense for the "Blue" Jackets, but for an alternate I think we can have a pass on that. I loved the neon green from the original logo, which I brought back for the alternate. Green never made sense for the home and road, but for an accent on the alternate, I think it works incredibly well.

I spent a long time looking into ideas for the City jersey. A couple ideas later and I settled with a military jacket themed jersey, to tie in Columbus' military history. I used their current primary because of the Ohio state flag imagery in the logo, and I added a detail that will be worn on the alternate captain and captain's uniforms. A patch below the letter for the alternate captain and the captain.

I'd like to add this has been the best received uniform on twitter, where I also share these. I have gotten great responses from Blue Jackets fans, which makes them my favourite fan base in the series so far haha.

  23. Colorado Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche. They almost have the perfect uniform set. Almost. The switch from the black helmet and pants didn't sit well with many people, I'm thinking it was just so much of a change it was hard to get used to. I'm glad they took away the black, it never made much sense. But the blue looks strange as well. I did some minor changes to the home and road. I replaced the grey striping with white on the home and blue on the road. I also changed the pants, helmet, and gloves to red instead of blue. It's hard to tell if it would work with it all laid out like this, and I don't quite have the photoshop skills to mock it up on a picture. But I think it may look less strange than the blue pants did. Nothing too crazy done to the home and road, they're pretty much ideal already for me, besides those striping changes.

    spacer.png

The alternate takes a far different turn than ever seen before for Colorado. I love the Yeti foot logo. It's one of my favourites from the Avs. Not enough to be a primary, but it makes for a great alternate logo. I was thinking of going for something similar to their current alternate, but it's just boring. I went with a new striping pattern, something I thought signifies an avalanche. Snow cascading down a mountain, starting with just a little bit of snow, and escalating into more and more. The stripes getting thicker and thicker as they go down the sleeve. It's eye catching, stands out, and is a different uniform than the Avs have ever seen. Perfect for an alternate. It also features the navy blue, just to further have it stand out from the home and road set. The City jersey uses the great colours of the Colorado state flag. The Avs already use a logo closely resembling the flag logo, so recolouring that logo seemed like the perfect idea. It also comes with recoloured shoulder patches.

Love that alternate jersey's use of just a tiny touch of red, and the monochrome C+hammers logo looks right at home in the roundel! I know folks didn't like the Devils new IRL alt but I kinda liked it, and this concept has a lot of the elements I liked about it :) The only suggestion there would be to make the head logo monochrome too like they do on their alts (that is, if you keep it at all). A solid set overall.

That Coyotes black alternate gives me Kraken vibes, in both good and bad ways... The sleeve/sock striping is quite nice, but the hem doesn't really pair with it very well. If you just want that single thin stripe there, it should probably be green, but you totally have enough room to either put a tan stripe above it or move it up and put a tan stripe with a red hem (and pants?) below it.

The city uniform here is a really nice design, and FWIW it's distinct enough from the Suns & Jazz designs and pretty enough that the similarities aren't an issue :) I think the black hem feels out of place; either ditch it or go with black under the sleeve stripes. I'd also go white for the "AZ" on the crest.

Hmmm not sure how I feel about that Hurricanes city jersey's crest; the idea has potential but it isn't working as-is since the stylized, oblong logo pairs poorly with the circular, detailed wreath. Using a more stylized, oblong wreath (like 2nd from left, 2nd from bottom here) would probably help. Going with all green & yellow for the logo would probably look nicer too. Finally, it's not necessary, but including the diamond pattern from the flag's reverse on the sleeves might be cool...?

As for the rest of the set, I really like the pants flags! Also I like the Canes wordmark too and it looks really nice on black.

IDK if I want it IRL but those changes to the Sabres logo is pretty cool; it feels like what they'd do if they were a classy but modern expansion team, and it certainly emphasizes the name well! The Bills jersey is fun, and I like the chest lightning bolts, but I'd go red buffalo + white text on the helmet for contrast purposes here.

Not crazy about going black for the Flames but the design looks good, if a bit '80s Canucks-y. The scenery patch and Blasty *are* two nice logos that pair better with each other than the traditional C logo (though a floating white outline on the scenery logo would help too!) Not feeling the white stripe touching the yellow at home. Love that flag-themed alternate; just needs a bit of hem color (white or black would be fine!)

Love the brown & simplified logo for the Bruins. That Red Sox-style alt is close but the lowercase doesn't work for me here very well, and I'd rather see the actual detailed Freedom Trail markers' leaves (could rip from here?) The B in the roundel works fine but I wonder if the bear from the shoulder patch could work there?

I always appreciate the in depth C&C to my concepts! Making the head monochrome for the alternate for Chicago is a great idea! It's one of those details that I often work too fast to fully catch before posting.

The Hurricanes city jersey may never feel right to me using the flag design, but maybe something I will go back into at the end of the series. I'll probably go over many of the city uniforms at the end of the series, to fix up some of those.

  25. Chicago Blackhawks

Up next is my previous favourite team. It's been the Jets since they returned to my home province, but I grew up cheering for the Blackhawks, watching Toews at UND and then play for Chicago. Their uniforms are incredible and honestly didn't need much change. The biggest change I made was subbing the head logo with the C tomahawks logo. I'm a big fan of their logos, and I haven't looked into any of the conversations they've had about their name and logo. The name should never change in my opinion, but maybe it is time to make the switch to promoting the C logo. I initially had the coloured version, with the green and yellow, but it didn't look as good as I thought, so I simplified the colours to fit the uniforms, and I think it really works. I kept the head logo on the shoulder. I slightly updated the road waist striping to match the home, but I didn't touch to much with the uniforms themselves.

I was really looking forward to Chicago solely because of the alternate and city uniforms. The alternate is a direct play off of their 2019 Winter Classic uniforms which played off of their uniforms in the 20's and 30's. I added the tomahawk logo to the centre of the circles. and added a red outline, just to provide some splash of colour. And to differentiate it from what they have already worn. That includes a red stripe on the waist and arms.

The city uniform might be my favourite out of every team. I'm not from Chicago, but if I was, I'd love any sports uniform with those flag elements on it. The colours, the stars, it's unique to Chicago and everyone knows immediately what it's from. The logo fits so perfectly into the design, and I didn't even have to recolour it to have that fit. The only thing I think it can be faulted on is how much Chicago sports teams use these elements, like the Bulls, but they wouldn't use it if it didn't work.

    C&C is appreciated of course!
