From what I found Navy letters was used only in1998/1999 season. For 1999/2000 they switched to white letters + triangle inside collar (like above) and then for 2002/2003 (first year of Reebok) they put triangle on collar:

After 2004/2005 season silver alternate was retired and When adidas came to league for 2006/2007 season red one was introduced.

So silver jersey had three incarnations plus one unsued (navy with round collar).

Yeah, I'm not sure if they wore the navy on gray for JUST that one season, but I did find some game pictures from GettyImages. For some reason I thought they had wide shoulders in the 2000-04 alternates? Hmmm ... fun find.

Nets alternate from 1998/1999 season. This jersey confusing me, because it has season tag, but I can't find any game pictures with it, I only found photos with v-neck version:

I found also Van Horn jersey with round collar and IIRC round version was also used in NBA Live 2000.

I am pretty sure those were worn the first couple of years of that look's existence before switching to the white lettered version (with wider shoulder straps, I believe?

The mothership has this worn from 1998-2000

  3. My question is will they go with XFL 2001 kind of names:

    Dallas Maniax

    Houston Force

    Los Angeles Inferno

    New York Force

    St. Louis Rampage

    Seattle Smash

    Tampa Bay Mutiny

    DC Guard

... or with more traditional names ...

    Dallas Express

    Houston Apollos

    Los Angeles Avengers

    New York Bulldogs

    St. Louis Scouts

    Seattle Kings

    Tampa Bay Marauders

    DC Destroyers

It almost feels like they're going more on the conservative route. But, I wouldn't be surprised if they went the 2001 route. Maybe a mixture of both?

They have to come up with some kind of name. In 2019, all the "classics" - warriors, tigers, bulldogs - are totally overused.

I'm sure people laughed at names like Athletics, Packers or Magic when they debuted.

Two thoughts ... in PRO football -- Bulldogs is one that could used and embraced. I'm actually surprised it's not used. Of course in college and HS that's another story. But, I'd love a Bulldogs name.

I'm sure you're right about Athletics, Packers and Magic. But, it's also hard to compare the three since they all come from different eras and got their nicknames through different methods (nickname from newspapers, sponsor, name-the-team with heavy marketing considering) ... but, now, in today's American sports world we've kind of established what kind of nicknames work for professional sports -- animals (Lions, Tigers, Rams, Hornets, Ravens, etc), regional names (Nationals, Texans, Canadiens, Phillies, Yankees), regional appropriate names (Lakers, Jazz, Oilers, Nuggets, Spurs, Magic, Hurricanes, Canucks), mythical names (Wizards, Titans, Knights), people's nicknames (Redskins, Blackhawks, Celtics). I'm sure I could make that list longer especially considering early 1900 baseball nicknames.

There are other "rules" we've kind of adopted ... singular nicknames are not always the best (Magic, Jazz, Wild), and double name nicknames are pretty ridiculous, especially for top tier professional sports (Mighty Ducks, Golden Knights, Silver Stars, etc). Though those rules are thrown out the window for minor league (especially baseball).

My point being -- if the XFL wants to be taken more seriously I'd avoid minor league sounding names. They can get creative, just don't go overboard IMO.

I just wonder how valuable the piece of land Angels Stadium is sitting on when Disney is pretty much constantly looking to expand. It might be in the cities best interest to let them move, actually. The Angels have a lot of financial heft to throw around, and a pretty solid set of home dates in which to earn money. But how does that compare to a Disney park that operates 365 days a year? California Adventure has been a pretty big success for Disney (At least I think it has), and the space they’re in now is getting pretty crowded.

EDIT: After researching it some more, the thought I had that’s a California Adventure is a success may not be quite right. It still pulls in money like crazy (as everything Disney does), but they’ve also poured over a billion dollars into fixing some of the original mistakes.

This might make that Angels Stadium property even more valuable, though. Especially with the fairly recent addition of the Star Wars properties and licenses.

And, there has been rumors of a third Anaheim Disney Park for years. That’s a whole different story and discussion. But, that area would be a good location for a third park. With that all said, I just don’t see the Angels moving. Look how difficult it is to get any arena or stadium deal done in California.

Hopefully the name may be brought back to New Orleans, though it could easily fit in Wichita (it is a west wind, after all).   Gayle Benson (Tom's widow; current Saints and Pelicans owner) has money to burn and the word on the street is that she will be involved in bringing in a Southern League AA franchise.

The baseball stadium is essentially next door to the Saints and Pelicans training facilities, after all.

Oh, and franchise owner Lou Schwecheimer and his flunky Cookie Rojas can kiss my a**.

If the Benson family was involved with an AA team I'd love for them to use the Pelicans name. Probably won't happen with a Pelicans MiLB team and the NBA team, but Pelicans is a baseball name to me. Whatever the name ... just make it sane.
