The Keys aren’t on hiatus. Only the Ghost Hounds and it’s not because of the question mark uniforms. It’s some weird reasoning of uneven number of teams in the Atlantic League. They’re set to return in 2025.

You are correct, I had misunderstood the Keys as having become the Ghost Hounds.

Kind of weird that a team folded and they reexpanded them while putting a separate team on "hiatus."

And do teams usually come back from hiatus?

A’s have worn green once in 18 games. The gray jerseys say Oakland too. I don’t understand. It was voted best in the league and it never sees the field anymore.

Wearing an alternate draws attention. That's why they're (also) used to celebrate special occasions. And they sell.

The A's gray is utilitarian. No piping, nothing fancy, just a gray jersey to denote the road team and Oakland because it has to say something. Nobody's running out to buy it (except me, and even then from China because screw Fisher).

Interesting that the 2024 Rays media guide cover photo has players in the old Nike/Majestic template. And it's not even last year's uniforms because last year they replaced the devil ray sleeve patch with the 25th anniversary patch.

Didn't they also get rid of their gray tops?

  4. I've seen no comment on the material specs of the new BP caps, which is weird. I feel like usually they make a big deal about the new fabric, plastic logos, all that.

That being said, two days before it leaked I was telling my father that I missed the old sunglass elephant logo. Weird that they dropped the sun, but I'll be buying one (and a Phanatic cap, obviously).

No matter which jersey they choose to wear on the road, they both say “Oakland,” so there’s no real avoiding that. It maybe explains why they haven’t worn the green jersey at home much lately, but not on the road.

I’m probably not the only one, but I think the A’s should go to kelly green full-time if/when they go to Vegas.

My honest guess (as a sad and bitter A's fan, I will admit) is that people like the Kelly jerseys, while the grays are just standard road grays that almost everyone has, and so they go with the one to which people will pay less attention.

I've always wondered about this. I'm very into the WBC as a fan but I'm in the US and I'm an MLB fan so I'm right there as a prime target for the marketing of this thing. But they always discuss the impact this tournament has on the countries outside of the US and while I do believe it does impact those who do watch it, I always think there's probably a ton of people in those countries who don't even know this tournament exists.

So I will tell you that the Israeli team in the Olympics did get media coverage, there were newspaper stories and they reported the (less than ideal) scores on TV. I frankly don't know what went on in 2017 because I moved here in 2018, but I imagine it was similar.

And you know what? If the WBC gets even one kid to pick up a glove and try it out, that's a big deal. They bring the 99% USA-born squad to do kids' camps and stuff, and they draw big crowds. 2023 will likely see an Israeli-born pitcher (Dean Kremer, Baltimore) and coach (Alon Leichman, Cincinnati) in the big leagues on Opening Day. There's progress, is what I'm saying.

I like that they resemble the '86 Mets. I feel like being really into the '86 Mets was sort of a Gen-X precursor to writing "How Petey Pablo Changed The Way We Talk About Gerald Wallace" posts.

There's an 86 Mets thing going on, which is cool, especially when you remember that the rooting base for Team Israel is... New York Jews, mostly. People here in Israel barely know the WBC is going on, and if you look back to the 2013 qualifiers in Brooklyn, those were home games.

I also support a team taking on some uniform qualities to call their own, instead of yet another rec league jersey with the default script. Let racing stripes (two stripes to match the flag? It works!) and pinstripes be Israel's thing, why not?

    Wait... that's for real?  Huh.

Fanboy moment, I love your concepts.

    Anyway, yeah:

"“To allow adequate time for the design process of the new team logo, uniforms, and caps, the final team name will be unveiled at the Friday, June 23 home game when the Frederick Club hosts the York Revolution,” said Chuck Domino, Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations for Attain Sports & Entertainment. “In the meantime, we’re starting off the season with something fun that has never been done before—uniforms with question marks in the colors of the Maryland flag (red, gold, and black) and black caps with a sole white question mark on the front and a Maryland Flag on the back. We thought this would be a great way to embrace the mystery of the naming contest results until the big reveal in June.”"

So if Hagerstown is ready next year, they're doing all this for half a season.

🤫 I'd pay extra to not have sponsors 🙃 on my team's gear...

    • no free walking adboards for whatever terrible or dumb companies
    • no ruined designs because of a letterbox etc.

No idea why, but here in Israel you often have to pay extra to get the version  with  the sponsor, which I don't know why anyone would do.

  10. Hadera:

Great update. Gives them a look they can own and really emphasizes the blue.

    HaPoel:

Eww. Kidding aside, while nice in the vacuum, this feels like putting Italy in red white and green at home, or Argentina in a powder blue top with a white hoop. It might make sense, but HaPoel has a traditional look, and that's red and black vertical stripes.

    Bnei Reina:

As a team new to top level play, they have an opportunity to really carve out their niche. I like this logo-inspired kit, I really do.

  11. We really do have too many red teams, don't we.

I think that's the "danger" here. You're using similar/colorswapped designs for home and clash, and they're pretty, but unfeasible for actual soccer. Think about Chadera playing at Be'er Sheva, and what they could possibly wear. Nice in a vacuum, problematic on the hypothetical field.

Also a lot of use of the clashing yoke, which while nice is going to make a lot of teams look pretty much the same, especially when all of the HaPoels wear red.
