CaolinaJoe
Who is the first European-born player to be a team Captain in the NHL? "It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of thepress. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom ofspeech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given usthe freedom to demonstrate. And it is the soldier who salutes theflag, serves beneath the flag, whose coffin is draped by the flag, andwho allows the protester to burn the flag."Marine Chaplain Dennis Edward O' Brien

pollux
Stan Mikita Forgot about him... However, he did take part to the Summit Series in Team Canada, so he might have gotten his citizenship before.Stan MikitaBorn Stanislaus Guoth in Sokolce, Czechoslovakia, Mikita emigrated to Canada in 1948 as an eight-year-old with his aunt and uncle and took their family name of Mikita.Mikita continued to work hard on behalf of the Hawks and served as interim captain twice before retiring in 1979-80.I'm curious to see the answer... CaolinaJoe
Mogilny is correct. Had to take over for an often injured Pat La-la-lafontaine in 93-94 I beleive. CaolinaJoe
Although I do concede that, according to the Black Hawk website, Stan was listed as 1 of 3 players listed as team Caqptain for the 76-77 season along with Pit Martin & Keith Magnuson. It is the only season he ever had the distinction. So, maybe they did go by citizenship. Hell, we'll call it a draw and split the prize.
