StefOn
Adobe Fontografer is a good tool but not too easy to handle.
slapshot
Fontographer hasn't been updated since 1994. It was the industry standard for many years, but Macromedia didn't put too much effort into supporting it. I think the last update to it was 1996.However, a savior arrived on the scene: FontLab. I believe FontLab is the current industry standard, and it's for both Mac and PC platforms.FontLab bought the rights to Fontographer a few years ago, and now they support it, and have even updated the same version out in 1996.
