The only downside to this is that they can't trade him. They were horrible with him. Without him they'll still be horrible but giving young goalies (Munro and Crawford) some experience. This might hurt the Russian team a bit more. But if his form in the NHL is any indication, not too much. The team this hurts the most is Norfolk of the AHL.
