Baker and the Cubs always have some kind of excuse as to why they are losing, whether it be Wood, Prior or Derrek Lee. LaRussa does not make excuses and if you ever have chance to watch a post game Cardinals press conference you'll see that.

While everyone knows the Cardinals are better with Pujols in the lineup, you won't hear LaRussa offer that as a reason for his team performing poorly because he expects the rest of his team to step up.

You can criticize STLFANATIC for being a homer but living in St. Louis we have a much better feel for the things LaRussa says to the media. Often the media try to bait him into making excuses and he gets testy during the interviews because he knows whats going on.

Bottom line is the Cardinals still EXPECT to win the division regardless of who's on the DL because in a baseball crazy city like St. Louis with a history of winning excuses don't go over too well.
