KLM logos, changed for Graphic Design class.

Hi all. In my graphic design class, we were recently given an assignment to pick a logo that we like and make changes to it six times, doing things like changing colors, and moving around existing elements. I chose KLM- Royal Dutch Airlines. I'd like to post what i did so that you guys might give me a little bit of C&C.

I'll do it in two posts.

My first three are simple recolo(u)rs, based on various symbols of the Netherlands.

First up is based on the Netherlands' royal coat of arms.

Note the crown up top. Using the colors in that crown, I recolored the KLM crown, and then went on to use the same blue for the letters for consistency's sake.

Secondly, I did one using the colors of the Netherlands' flag, seen here:

Third and last as far as the recolors go, I used the colors of Amsterdam's city flag, because Amsterdam is the home of KLM.

Now for part 2, where I played with the actual design a little bit. Again, here's the original: http://www.villaboulevard.com/data/ban/klm%20logo.jpg

For this one, I put the full name of the airline in both Dutch and English, arched around the crown.

For this one, I took out one circle from the crown, put the KLM up there, and put the company slogan in the rectangle part.

Lastly, I simply moved and re-arranged the KLM letters to surround the crown.

Well...first off, you didn't "redesign" anything about those first three. As you said, those are just recolors of the original logo.

The second set isn't a redesign either, it's adding excess elements to a simple, classy logo. The lettering inside the crown makes it very cluttered, the tagline in the bar does the same, and the letters surrounding the logo just looks ridiculous. All of them just make the logo more confusing. I thought for a second with the letters surrounding it, that you were trying to make it look like an airplane.

If you're going to redesign the logos you need to start from scratch, reinvent the logo, perhaps using elements that are present in the existing logo (the crown is an obvious choice). Also, when you're doing logos, use Illustrator, not Photoshop.

I guess redesign was the wrong word. All we had to do was just make it different by changing colors and moving things. I'll edit the title/first post.
