Lights Out

Part of the problem is the choice of colors and more than that is the shade or hue of each color. You have a light brown with a bright yellow and it honestly hurts the viewer's eyes which is not what you want to do. One thing you have to ask yourself is "Can I look at this for more the five minutes or do I want to look at it again?" I don't think anyone based on your colors would want to look at this for long at all. The choice of colors, not the font is giving it the musty look and that is something you have to think about when designing. What are you trying to accomplish here? What is the idea? What I see is just using brown and yellow on old wordmarks and calling it "updated". That's not a fresh idea, that's a dated. The wordmark comes across as clunky for a lack of a better term and I'm talking about the second one you did.
