Notch Novelty
Anyone know how to become a sports agent? I read you don't need to go to college to become one just need the certification. Anyone know where to get the certification?
Shmee
You may not technically need certification (not sure) but it wouldn't hurt to go to school and take a few courses in Sports Management, Contractual Law, and Marketing. These are all things you'd need in the world of sports agency. I think you'd have a tough time trying to break into the field without the respect and and training that a college degree provides. Notch Novelty
I already have a client lined up and possibly another one in bodybuilding and in hockey. I also have been going to school and will be in my second year in the Fall.
yh
Be VERRRRRY careful. Just because you may be certified as a sports agent does not mean that you have the ability to provide your client with certain types of advice, especially legal advice. Just because you may be able to negotiate a contract does not mean that you have the ability to explain to your client what the legal ramifications of the terms of that contract are. It is illegal to practice law without a license which is why most sports agents are attorneys or have an attorney on their staff to review contracts with and for their clients. I don't want to discourage your pursuit, just be sure you don't wind up on the wrong side of a heavy fine and a criminal record.
