  1. The AHL Stockton Heat (Calgary Flames) have received permission to provisionally play their season in Calgary at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The Flames say its due to cross border restrictions. Stockton will join the Canadian division with Manitoba (Winnipeg), Toronto (Toronto), Laval (Montreal) and Belleville (Ottawa).

So this leaves the two remaining Canadian NHL clubs with their affiliates still in the US, Bakersfield (Edmonton) and Utica (Vancouver). Now if the reasoning behind the provisional move is true I would think Bakersfield and Utica wouldnt be far behind. However something seems fishy to me.

The Heats lease with the City of Stockton and the Stockton Arena ran out at the end of the 2019-20 season. In February 2020, a one year extension was signed through the 2020-21 season to give the two more time to negotiate a new contract. The original lease was 5 years with an team option for an additional 5. The Flames and Heat declined the option. With parent owned AHL clubs wanting to be located closer to the parent teams in recent years, I think the Heat provisional move may be more permanent.

ND is considered P5, but I wouldn't say BYU is. If they were during their undefeated run they would've been top 10, maybe even top 5 before losing to Coastal, instead of where they actually were in the mid teens.

ACC, SEC and Big Ten all consider BYU power 5 for scheduling purposes. The Big Ten and SEC also consider Army as well.

Why would Boise leave? Being an Independent or going to the American is a lateral move. It's only worth leaving if they go to the Pac-12.

Because if they leave they have control over who they schedule to play, bigger opponents, more revenue, better chances at a playoff spot, than in a non power 5. The Power 5 considers schools like BYU and Notre Dame to be power 5 schools, but not schools like UMASS or New Mexico State. However, as Independents, all have access to the college football playoff and new years six as at large bids. Scheduling more power 5 schools and beating them can earn them a higher chance of getting in.

  4. Edit: Report Confirmed. Cincinnati, Idaho and Kalamazoo opt out. Toledo approved to begin in February. No word on Fort Wayne.

It appears 3 more teams, as well as possibly 2 others are opting to sit out the 2020-21 ECHL season. It is reported that Cincinnati, Idaho and Kalamazoo will sit out this season with Fort Wayne and Toledo yet to decide. Supposedly November 30th was the deadline to opt out so Im guessing it was extended. They join Adirondack, Atlanta, Brampton, Maine, Newfoundland, Norfolk, Reading and Worcester who have already opted out. If Fort Wayne and Toledo also opt out, half the league will be sitting out the season with just 13 teams opting to play. Some teams preseasons have already started.

When a league like this announces an expansion to 15 teams, that means a contraction to 14 or 12 is not far behind.

Yeah but with MiLB imploding this offseason, several markets could join the ranks of the frontier league. Cities like Charleston, Clinton, Burlington, Quad Cities, Williamsport, Auburn, Batavia, State College would all fit in the Frontier League footprint.

  6. Like Charlotte, St Louis is a flop as well. I guess our only hope now is Sacramento. Im guessing they will keep the Republic name but change the logo, but honestly I think their look is already MLS worthy.

Not a fan of the deep pink, salmon, magenta, pink or whatever its called but it aint red. Im also not a fan of them only using the two colors in the logo. If they are gonna have gray and yellow at least have it somewhere in the logo. I get the logo . The arch, and the rivers but it could've been applied better.

Not a fan of the name. The league is nothing but Uniteds, Citys and FCs. Like Charlotte, they had the opportunity to be different but failed. I guess the name would be a bit more tolerable for me if they spelled out Saint rather than the St.

The only top level league that would make sense for NDSU at this point is the Mountain West, and even that’s a huge stretch.

Big 12 wouldnt be bad a fit. Still a ways from Iowa and Kansas but better than Northern Illinois in the MAC and better than Air Force, Colorado State and Wyoming.

As for Cincinnati I see them in the Big 12 to help out West Virginia or in the ACC, renewing rivalries with Pitt and Louisville as well at Notre Dame in basketball.

Ah, Trois-Rivieres, the land of my people. Cool. Hope St. John's can stay on the map, but Trois-Rivieres would be a good place for a Habs affiliate and a better place for a Nordiques affiliate.

I believe the intention is for Trois-Rivieres to be the affiliate for Montreal and Laval. Newfoundland is with the Torontos, and Brampton is with Ottawa/Belleville.
