Was wondering…why don’t the blue jays get a Stars and Stripes hat to match the rest of the league ? Before I get “Canada” I was just getting to they are in a U.S. baseball league, their opponent (no matter who) is getting the celebratory gear and it’s not like you have to live there to celebrate. Heck, don’t the warriors (not an nba guy) do like Chinese new years jerseys? I saw their special cap and it looked like the batter man was S&S anyway

Because they tried it in 2022 and guess what, people hated it.  And, they ended up changing them.  As far as Golden State or Houston celebrating Lunar New Year, that is different because, while Lunar/Chinese New Year might be more associated with the Chinese, it is a celebrated by many Asian countries.  The Warriors and Rockets are not celebrating China by using Chinese characters on their jerseys, but the holiday.

  2. Surprised there's no title sponsor for the pointless, in season tournament, though I expect that to change by the time the season starts.  Still don't get why anyone should care about this, including the players, except for the money, of course.

Devil's advocate here....this may have something to do with the Adidas deal ending this upcoming season for production purposes.

The specialty jerseys are not going away.  Teams can still have them.  The players just won't be wearing them.  So, no, it's not Adidas saying no, we don't want to make them anymore.

Bettman said that Pride nights -- and all specialty nights -- are here to stay in the NHL. The only change will be that players no longer wear themed jerseys in warmups.

"Absolutely, 32 of our clubs did Pride nights. Some do Heritage nights," Bettman said. "Everyone does Hockey Fights Cancer. Some do military nights. All of those nights will continue. The only issue will be -- or the only difference will be -- we aren't going to change jerseys for warmups because really that has become more of a distraction from the essence of what the purposes of these nights are."

I know this is cross-posted from the SiG forum, but...ever since Vegas switched from gray to gold as primary homes, something had looked...off to me about those sweaters, which is why I held off for so long on getting one. Well I'm in Vegas this weekend for both mini-vacay and game 2 (finally get to see the Knights play live!), so I swung on over to the Armory (their team store) to get an up close look at those gold sweaters and...yeah, those are just a bit too glittery for my taste. They work great as a 3rd/alternate (and speaking of alts the black VEGAS script alts look much better in person than I thought), but as primaries it's just too much. I much prefer the original gray sweaters that feature the gold enough to notice but not distract...so that's the one I got.

Sidebar: I still cannot get over how well both Vegas' and Seattle's identities turned (one of the stores on the strip has a good amount of Kraken stuff). If those were adidas' last contribution to NHL aesthetics, then they are going out with a big ol' bang AND leaving a pretty high bar for team identities in their wake.

For me, it was the white in the jersey that seemed off.  I've gotten use to it and it doesn't look as bad now.  The one thing I didn't really like at the time was that it was just a gold recolour of their current jerseys instead of something original.  But, now that they've become the primary home, I appreciate that was what they went with and didn't end up with mismatched home/aways, which could end up starting a never ending cycle of mismatched primaries like what's gone on with Minnesota and Carolina.

  5. Would be disappointing if the Jets went full retro, especially as there's nothing really wrong with what they have now and is unique to them.  They would also become the fourth team to use that same three stripes pattern.

If they do a full rebrand, I rather they go with something new and use the aviator blue as the primary colour.

  6. I'm guessing when Silver is talking about European soccer, he's referring to the Champions League and other multi-league tournaments, which is why the NBA's in season tournament is so dumb, when it only includes only the 30 NBA teams.  Even something like England's FA Cup has every team at every level competing for it.  Maybe if they put a playoff spot on the line, it might mean something.  Otherwise, it's just about the money.

  7. Overall, the Stamps are looking good.  Only thing is, anyone else slightly bothered with the black in the logo and helmet stripe, but nowhere else?  The best thing, for sure, is that they won't be sharing a template with another team anymore, with the same colours.

Will Winnipeg finally wear WAH this year?

Doubtful.  Either the league doesn't allow it, or the other teams have told the Jets to take a hike when asked, knowing the whole thing about the white out.

Or, maybe the Jets have simply never considered it.

Or may do a complete re-brand as well.  The 2024-25 season will also be the 50th anniversary season for the Capitals and now I HIGHLY doubt a special jersey will be made to honour it.

But in the end, a  Capitals re-branding will have to happen at some point.  Whether it be with Ovi chasing the record or not

They can still do a one-off special anniversary jersey, just not the full rebrand until after Fanatics figures out how their template is going to look.  From the ESPN article, they say the jerseys won't look any different from the Adidas jerseys now for a couple of years, just maybe with different fabrics.

  10. Fanatics will become the official NHL jersey supplier beginning in 2024-25, with the deal running for 10 years.  The on ice jerseys will be made in the same factories as the current ones in Quebec and the specs will be the same.  There will be some differences in the fabrics and materials.

The NHL says the first significant changes to the jerseys could come in 2026-27 when different fabric options and player safety innovations like protection against skate lacerations might be introduced.

I can't figure out where this WBC graphics package is from, but I really like it for FOX. They used their MLB one for a few games, but I feel as if by and large they've switched to this sleek one. 110% not complaining.

Reminds me of the MLB Network on from last year, without the logos

The score bug is the same as the one used on the international feed for the World Series.  Can't find a picture, but link to 2019 World Series on Youtube.

I'm British and the "T" falling off is how I learn we have a national baseball team. That may be ignorance on my part but probably shows how well the sport is covered here.

I don't follow baseball too closely but thanks to my time on these boards I at least have an understanding of the aesthetics and what makes a uniform work - the only part I don't get is why road uniforms are usually grey, but I guess that's one of baseball's traditions. With that said; Great Britain has one of the most half-arsed uniforms I've ever seen, and it's also exactly what I'd expect from them.

On one broadcast, the announcers were talking about how the national program only had a $25,000 budget.  Not sure if that was in dollars or pounds.

Where will stanley cup patches go now?

hoping for SC finals with teams that have no ad on their jersey. 🙏

Pretty simple.  On the other side, just like how Florida put the all-star patch on the left.  Or, the patch could go on the shoulder if there's no shoulder logo like how the Rangers did in 1994.
