  1. Glendale voted to keep the tax increase on themselves to fund the Coyotes. You just can't get rid of them, huh.

Well to fund the city. Whether it funds the Coyotes remains to be seen. Particularly since the mayor is on her way out and the new one doesn't support the Yotes half as much as she did.

Jerry Weiers pretty much dominated the night yes, however he has said that he will work with the Coyotes and work with their budget. As far as Prop 457, without that tax we lose 1/3 of both of our Police Force and Firefighters and face a depression in the city with or without the Coyotes. Yes the Coyotes and the NHL with the $25 Million a year that have screwed the city of Glendale and the city of Glendale screwing themselves in the long run. But the tax will help the budget and the people no matter if there is a tenant at the Jobing.

  2. Glendale will be fine if we lose the Coyotes. Especially Westgate, we have a new outlet mall next door that should bring in jobs and cash. Plus if the casino is built, that should bring in more money towards the Westgate City Center. The only thing that worries me is if Prop 457 does go through. 1/3 of all police officers and firefighters will be cut, no more festivals that could bring in cash and the 2 of the 3 libraries with the Primary library being closed 5 out of the 7 days.

Firings, or layoffs? Layoffs would be standard practice for a team facing a long lockout.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Glendale is starting to admit the inevitable: http://www.azcentral...?nclick_check=1

Glendale has been cranking out budget scenarios to show where the city would stand considering different variables, such as keeping or losing the sales-tax hike and keeping or losing the Phoenix Coyotes.

It's the latter that has caught the attention of Mayor Elaine Scruggs.

No immediate cuts would be needed, according to one scenario that assumes the city keeps the tax hike but loses the hockey team that plays at the city-owned Jobing.com Arena.

Scruggs highlighted the no-cuts scenario at this week's council workshop and called on council members to rethink the Coyotes deal.

The mayor said handing out $71 million to the team as proposed in the next five years would mean city employees would lose jobs and services would be cut.

The mayor said that wasn't acceptable. She added she would rather keep popular city festivals that are in danger of being cut than pay millions to keep the Coyotes.

"I don’t want to turn off the lights in Glendale," Scruggs said, suggesting the hockey and concert arena could attract other events that would keep visitors at Westgate City Center, the nearby shopping and restaurant complex.

    :suspect:

Reason why we Scruggs is the outgoing mayor. We have Manny Cruz and Jerry Weiers as the mayoral candidates of Glendale and already killing each other and how much they would cut in budget. Both seem wrong imo as they really haven't brought anything to the table that would fix the city.

  3. Everyone's favorite Joyce Clark from the Arizona Republic:

Particularly concerning is her campaign literature’s allegations against a fellow council member.

“Councilwoman Norma Alvarez has endorsed and is solely supporting Latino candidates for mayor and council,” it states. “Is there a hidden agenda to get a Latino majority on Glendale City Council?”

The literature posted on Clark’s campaign website alleges a Latino majority on the council would benefit just one group within Glendale and would reject the arena deal with potential Phoenix Coyotes owner Greg Jamison. The current council is mostly White. Does this mean the City Council benefits “just one group within Glendale”?

When coupled with Clark’s statement at a recent Glendale City Council meeting, we can’t help but wonder if Clark, who we recommend for re-election in the Yucca District, is losing her cool during what has been incredibly tense and difficult times for city leaders.

Alvarez had questioned something Clark said during council discussions about the Tohono O’odham Nation’s proposed casino. Clark responded, “No. I’m sorry you can’t understand English or what I said.” The response drew gasps from the audience in attendance.

Well, now that she doubled down on racism, she's sure to be re-elected in Arizona!

What it doesn't show is the fact Clark also accused Alvarez of being un-american because she supports ending the lawsuit against the Tohono O'odham Tribe which is costing Glendale Millions. Yup this is my adopted home town.

  4. They're actually in the process of building an outlet mall where one of the Coyote parking lots was on the west side of Westgate. (Story with specifics.)

    So that's a good idea...

Welp, I was wrong. I really didn't think I'd ever read something on the boards that included the Coyotes and mentioned ELIMINATING parking lots...

Whats more amazing is there are more people who are complaining about the building of a WinCo on the Eastside of Glendale than the whole Coyotes debacle. Well they are building the store on a stud farm that's been there for 60 years.

  5. http://www.azfamily.com/news/Coyotes-win-as-Glendale-Council-pledges-more-money-148626725.html

Monday, during an eight-hour budget session, the Glendale City Council voted to budget another payout for next season.

During the same meeting, the Council also voted to raise property taxes and the sales tax. Council members said the Coyotes fund is not directly related to the tax hike, but another city official called it a "contributing factor."

Hmm, complete 180, the saga continues

To wonder why I'm moving to Tempe this year, Glendale has been my home for the last 25 or so years, but this Klown Kouncil is ruining the city. No Libraries, schools are being cut of their funds and Police officers are being laid off or have to transfer to other cities. Really sad day how a team can both morally and fically ruin what used to be a great city.

  6. The bobblehead is John McCain wearing a suit with a coyotes jersey over it. It's like they were at one point Matt Hulsizer bobbleheads and he dropped out so they said, "What are we gonna do with all these Matt Hulsizer bobbleheads? Uhhh.........John McCain night! Just paint the hair gray."

It's Military Night, been promoting the night as much as possible. Anyone in the Military gets in free. It is a nice gesture, plus having the Luke Air Force Base near them and being free, that should at least bring in at least another thousand, 7k tomorrow night!

  7. Rams:

Get a grip. Try, at least for one day, not to be an ass, please.

And, you obviously know nothing about which Mexican school approached the NCAA.

But yet it's not a Mexican School, it's the National Sports Commission of Mexico about the NCAA Division II. Rams may sound like an ass, but he knows what he's talking about, he's always had his facts straight from his time from the Arena Football Boards to here.

  8. Basketball isn't COMPLETELY irrelevant... and neither is Academics to a couple of the conferences. But they are about as close to completely irrelevant as something could possibly be.

Not true on either point in certain cases. While football controls the discussion in college athletics, men's basketball and academics both are a decent part of it for certain conferences (ACC for both, Big Ten for academics only, etc).

Academics, pfft. You know, as much crap as SEC fans rightfully get for that S-E-C-S-E-C "I hope our rivals win because somehow it makes us better" chanting, the Big Ten is the most masturbatory conference in college sports. At least all that South-will-rise-again stuff terminates at the end of football season; Big Ten circle-jerking permeates every aspect of everything.

F*** football, when's the next womens game in that sport?

Arizona gymnastics meets begin on January 6th......

Will Monica Bisordi be making an appearance?

    Yeah, she'll be coming.

Can she still throw 100 MPH (but only for three or so pitches?)

    What?

He's talking about the other Bisordi on the boards.
