  1. Through the first couple of matches, I'm more optimistic on the PVF than I had been before the season. They seem to have their stuff together on presentation and fan experience.

I just hope this doesn't turn out to be another AAF, where everything looked really polished and thought through out of the gate and then it was "Oops, we forgot to have money."

  2. That Supernovas tertiary logo is really nice and I hope it makes it onto merch.

Beveled numerals on the Rise made me initially think of the old Buffalo Destroyers, but I think the US national VB teams used a similar number treatment for a few years as well.

  3. An unexpected financial lifeline has come into play today.

Dwayne Johnson is now a board member of TKO, the Endeavor-owned conglomerate that operates WWE and UFC. This means, in theory, he now could have Ari Emanuel and the Saudi Kingdom's money to play with for his upstart football league, after the Fox money runs its course this season and if Redbird wants to sell. Looking forward to the expansion Baltimore Bonesaws and Philadelphia PowerSlaps.

  4. Should it actually happen (it will not,) I imagine it'll go about as well as the North American (baseball) League's entry in Maui, at a time when the circuit had Edmonton, Calgary, Yuma, and Zion, Illinois.

This group can't get its logistics together on what markets will be in the league or what its schedule is, and you're going to expect them to coordinate Hawaiian travel? Furthermore, you're expecting weekend warrior players to commit to that kind of travel in exchange for like $250-500 a week?

  5. I feel like the numbering treatment is going to make or break the Lightning 3rd. Give me something that goes beyond the standard block they've been using for 20+ years, especially if it's a callback like the italicized, drop-shadowed modified block, or the electrified numbers most recently seen in Reverse Retro 2.0.

The lack of shoulder patch feels like a whiff, given how nicely their simple primary logo scales down. It also would have been a great opportunity to modernize the old Florida Bolt shoulder patch, which was so much better than their original primary crest.

The Roughnecks will remain instead of the Gamblers and move to the USFL Division.

Just think how many brains had to malfunction in the same place at the same time for this to be the end result of the merger.

1.5 seasons for the UFL. Hammer the under.

I like the designs. I'm guessing each team will probably have both options available, but will they all have to wear one design, like Arsenal used to do with long and short sleeve shirts?

Not necessarily. Heck, on Nebraska, some of the players wear pants instead of shorts.

He is hinting at the AFL having a developmental league in 2025, but it won't be called AF2 or AFL2 to avoid confusion.

    - Wants to be first league to implement virtual reality.

    - Has called out other leagues accusing them of sabotaging potential arena deals.

    - Says that international crowds will embrace indoor football more that outdoor football.  He has a dream of Arena Football being an Olympic sport.
    - Not ruling out a working relationship with any of the outdoor leagues.

    - Cities who rejected the AFL will not be a part of the AFL going forward.

    1. Desperate to get more money from suckers

    2. Knows a tech buzzword and has no idea what goes into the development and implementation

    3. Weirdly conspiratorial in addressing the public

    4. Greatly overestimates his product's appeal

    5. Spitting in the face of potential future revenue because of petty personal grievances

Well, I think we've solved the mystery of the AFL's big forthcoming broadcast rights deal. Look for all the games streaming on X, The Everything App.

The late-'80s version with the logo overlaid on the sleeve stripes is perfection for me. I saw one in person today and my wallet started getting twitchy.

Were the Cowboys wearing a different uniform cut tonight? I don't remember the sleeve numbers on the doublestar jerseys being so small previously.

I think the more likely media rights arrangement for 2024 is a split between Fox and Disney. Based solely on what I saw during the ad breaks and NBC touting how happy they were with the arrangement, I'm fairly sure the airtime on NBC Universal properties was brokered.

NBC has announced they will not be part of the broadcast package for The Mergéd League, not on the network, not on USA, not on Peacock, because, gosh darn it, they just have too much golf to show, and definitely not because of that other thing I mentioned in the quote above.

Where have you heard this? That'd be pretty amazing if any of them do shift over. For the time they had the NHL, adidas has probably done the best in terms of visual design and actual garment construction with the fit, finish, and fabric materials.

Eric Bodamer, known around here when you and I were mere tots as ebod39, posted last week that he was making the jump.

  12. Taste will forever be subjective(and for the record, I think this is the worst jersey the Rangers have worn in my time on Earth,) but I want to point out how this is just straight-up poor design, and I'm not even talking about the sleeves. Look at the end of the video, with regular folks wearing it. The "C" or "A" barely fits on the front. Now, if it came out of the Dolanverse that the crest absolutely had to be that big, then do something creative like the Sabres with their mullet jersey and turn that lettering into a shoulder patch. But no, there it remains, barely fitting on the front and helpfully pointing out to the world how the crest is too big. Maybe they can make it out of Fanatics' revolutionary "foldable" material for the on-ice version.

Also, this thread has shown me Rangers fans are the hockey equivalent of Chicago Bears fans. Which makes sense when I think about it, as most are likely Knicks fans as well.

So what has this new owner done?

    1. Bought an Arena Football team

    2. Posted that photo of himself

    3. Posted that quote, a mishmash of grindset mindset and prosperity gospel, next to himself in that photo

He is one hundred percent up to financial crimes and it is wholly a matter of whether the feds are interested in catching him. You get to know the type around here. Two have run for mayor over the last couple elections.

Fox and NBC running the league will probably be the best thing for this, as the USFL has gotten big viewing bumps after NASCAR and the Kentucky Derby.

  15. Watching this develop with interest, as the boys and I have become big Northwoods League fans over the past couple seasons. Given the parameters they've laid out for the season and how the baseball circuit operates, my guess would be that we'll see three more teams, all from markets in the Great Plains Division. It's a 40-game season, so you'd play each opponent eight times. That's a four-game set at home and another away, and maybe you run every series Thursday-Sunday to maximize your weekend exposure.

Hopefully this takes root and we'll see another set of six teams in the Great Lakes Division soon. Kenosha and Rockford would certainly be ideal for it.
