Since they're acknowledging him as an announcer and not as a coach, using Thanksgiving colors makes more sense.

In that case, maybe something like burgundy, tan, and orange would have been a better choice than brown and orange so as not to use any NFL team's color scheme. It would be autumnal without suggesting the Browns.

I started watching football the season the Cowboys beat the Steelers in the Super Bowl, and I grew up right smack dab in the heart of 49ers country. I was a bit of a weird kid (still am), so I picked the Bucs instead of going with what everyone else liked. In that time span I think the Bucs have had one of the lowest winning percentages of any team in the NFL, while the Niners have had one of the highest. Even with that, I’ve seen my Bucs win the Super Bowl twice, and have never seen any of my friends or family get to enjoy a Niners win.

    Football’s weird, man.

In terms of just getting to the postseason and putting themselves in the running. I think the Vikings are one of the most successful teams in the Super Bowl era. What happened after that is basically a Football's Wackiest Bloopers videotape as directed by David Lynch.

  3. The first CavFanatic uniform I remember was the old feather-script Cavaliers jersey in kindergarten-fingerpaint red, yellow, and blue, which I don't recall ever being a color scheme of theirs, so even then they weren't really mashing up so much as making up.

I know Reddit isn't really your bag, but it might warm your cold heart just a little bit that there was a Julie DiCaro Deadspin...umm, writing...posted on /r/NFL during the week after the Bears/Chargers game - it talked about Cris Collinsworth and some stuff about Bagent, I gathered that much; you couldn't pay me enough money to read a DiCaro article

I read the column. It was about how there was a grand conspiracy between Collinsworth and the Bears to promote Tyson Bagent's White Excellence so that Justin Fields looked bad. Justin Fields is 6-25 in the NFL. He can look bad all by himself.

If 19 and 02 are in separate blocks, I think you could get away with nineteen two and it's just as valid as any other way of saying it.

There was a host on the classical music station here who would play old shellac 78s of opera music, and he pronounced 1901-1909 years that way. Either it was a way people used to say it, or it was an affectation favored by the sort of person who, well, collected opera shellac 78s.

More sportsily, there was that time Lou Lamoriello, another weird anal-retentive old guy, drafted Auston Matthews as the first pick in the "two-sixteen" draft.

moving the Panthers to a place like St. Louis (with an indoor stadium that might be easy to renovate)

That cheap dump is beyond help.

I don't think the NFL would give up on Charlotte, but they gave up on San Diego, a market with a longer track record of NFL success and an objectively superior city, so who's to say.

You mean mid-2010s? I just remember the Cavs in LeBron’s first stint wearing navy blue a lot, in addition to white and (wine) red, all with metallic gold trim.

home, road, navy alt, yellow throwback, orange throwback, blue throwback, wine/gold recolor of the orange throwback, red/yellow/blue recolor of the yellow throwback, might have forgotten one or two

  8. I know I'm being Unfair to LeBron, but a lot of the NBA uniform weirdness we have now lies right at the feet of the mid-2000s Cavaliers, who, rather than using LeBron to elevate the team's brand for the long term, went for short-term gains by creating as many LeBron jerseys to sell as they could with the CavFanatic mashups. I don't think the NFL has fallen to point-and-click recolors yet, but they will.

But then they'd be the Houston AstroDunkstronauts, wouldn't they be?

The Raptors are a scratched ball, the Nuggets are pickaxes, and the Warriors are a bridge. We can trust fans to take it the rest of the way.

  10. It's ironic that Bagent pere made his entire living off arm strength when Bagent fils keeps getting all his wet-fart throws picked off. It's like being the son of a pilot and having astigmatism.

He also looks like he's only 10 years older than Tyson.

Those pickled Scotch-Irish either age like milk or stay 19 forever with no middle ground. Or he is only 10 years older.

That's kinda the wild thing about the late 80s and early 90s where CBS and NBC were cranking out new theme songs like every year. Hard to imagine in this day and age where the youngest theme of the primary 4 broadcasters is NBC's for all intents and purposes (ignore the remixes and whatnot) at 17 years and that's been around since they got SNF

And politics, which is sports now: NBC has had the same theme for election coverage since 2008.
