Players saw them and hated them.  We are so pumped to bring you a new uniform that hopefully will bring universal disgust to the franchise.

"We're disrespecting our past while also dishonoring our future." Actually, that's what the half-gradient-helmet Jags set did.

But that's a different topic than "Nobody cares about them, they shouldn't even get the B version of the outdoor game, and I'm surprised they haven't relocated".

The whole two-arenas-on-the-same-street thing did give them a bit of a scare, though, didn't it? Like, if they hadn't come up with a single body to manage both buildings and keep them from cannibalizing the market, wouldn't they have been in some danger?

  3. Don't know, but two theories:

    1) Karmanos didn't want to do a full-scale rebrand for 07-08 because of his own traditionalist tendencies but also didn't think they could get away with big-timing the entire Edge concept the way the Devils and Blackhawks did, so they made a nominal change for the sake of change to goose sales

    2) the Hurricanes under Karmanos were always a giant Red Wings LARP and he wanted the shoulders to stand out like they do on Detroit's white sweater

  4. Could they get away with yellow as a base color if the blue outlines, say the blue above the navy in that picture, were thick enough on the numbers and scripts? Yellow hats, yellow socks, something like that? Rays of sunshine, the sun is yellow (as drawn by a child), and every Tampa team would be built around a different primary color.

That's clearly not a knock on Tomlin, but I think it's fair to say that in the long run, they may be better off without him.

You're overthinking it. Overachieving doesn't necessarily mean complacency with the roster. As long as the Steelers can accurately judge their own talent and keep improving on what they have, there's no reason to get rid of the coach, and if they can't accurately judge their own talent and keep improving on what they have, then their problems run deeper than the coach. Best to just keep buying the lottery tickets.

Unless the Steelers really think Russell Wilson can serve as a good mentor to Justin Fields (which they'd have to be about as dumb as the five-way interchange at PA-51 @ Library Rd/88 to think that), don't see how this could possibly help them at all.

Fields doesn't believe that anyone can teach him anything. When the Bears started 0-4 and were making an early play for Worst NFL Team Of All Time, he said it was because the coaches were coaching him too much. I am deeply interested in seeing what Tomlin's staff will do with that winning mindset.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, should've been the basis for the main team's logo. As if someone was writing down all the notes after the official unveil for this....

I feel the same way about the Iowa Wolves having a superior rendering of the Timberwolves logo. It's truer to the original logo that people love for some reason.

Mixed feelings on several levels with the D-league San Diego Clippers, though. The first is that it would have looked better in the original light blue and orange if you're going to go back to that name. The other is, should they have gone back to that name? There's something that doesn't sit right with me about suggesting a departed major-league team's old IP for a minor-league replacement. I felt the same way about the Connecticut Whale as farm team for the Rags. It's kind of a dunk on them that they'll never be invited back to the big table, but they can live on as a feeder for a city you used to not like.

The real reason the Grizzlies moved is because they were screwed out of the Tim Duncan lottery by the ass-backwards rule at the time that blocked recent expansion teams from getting the #1 pick for a certain number of years. There was just no recovering from that. Granted, they still might have lost that lottery without that rule, but not even giving them a chance after suffering through the worst team in the league is the last thing any league in their right mind would want to do when they're trying to establish themselves in a new market.

Canucks ownership was dysfunctional and in over their heads (e.g., the whole Mark Messier/Mike Keenan/Trevor Linden fiasco concurrent with the Grizzlies being dumb and bad), so they sold the team to a guy whose plan was always to move them. Toronto overcame the same dumb rules, after all.

I'm not sure Memphis is really built to last as an NBA town, so maybe a move back to the ol' Chinese money-laundering scheme that thinks it's a city is still possible.

  9. The signal-to-noise ratio is off in that post, but I totally agree that you can't attribute the rise of basketball in Canada to a guy doing cool dunks on go-nowhere teams during the NBA's dark period from about 20 years ago. Michael Jordan had more to do with Canada embracing the NBA than Vince Carter did.

  10. The kelly green never looked that vibrant in action, though.

These suck the exact same way the Seahawks throwbacks suck and lots of people here go nuts for those too. In both cases, navy blue and neon green look much better together.

The Wolves should roll with the throwbacks full time. So much more fun than their navy look. Just return to these brighter colors in some fashion please.

Someone has to explain this to me. All I see is a cheap version of what the Mavericks wore at the same time. The fonts don't match the ones in the logo (which don't match each other), the full team nickname doesn't fit but they didn't go with Minnesota either, I just don't get it. It looks like they ordered them from a catalogue like a suburban high school team. Was that the appeal all along?

The first Carolina script probably has the best idea of incorporating the shape of North Carolina into the tail...except isn't the team supposed to appeal to both Carolinas? (Or is that the Panthers that appeal to both?)

They appeal to Online and maybe also the suburbs of Raleigh

Yeah just as I thought.. per the comment section on their post, they’re attempting to get residents/fans to submit designs for virtually no reason or gain.

They're gaining a mailing list. Submitting your Frederick Flintstones concept is just going to get you nagged to hell about season tickets for the Spire City Parson Browns.

  14. The Bears' big Chicago plan is apparently "we'd help pay for something somewhere near the lake." It's light on details, but then so is the Arlington Heights plan--we've still never seen what the actual stadium is supposed to look like, just all the landscaping and the dumb little shops around it. I think they think this weak feint back to Chicago is enough to make Arlington Heights say "noooooo please don't go, we'll do anything, wink-wink. nudge-nudge. gluck-gluck." Even if it does, the county pretty clearly doesn't want this to happen, and that machine is still powerful enough to make this not worth the effort.

"People are craving certainty," NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said recently. "And we are, too, but this isn't a 60-minute game where the light goes on and the game's over. [Meruelo] is working on it. We still have some time."

Yeah, it doesn't appear to be a best-of-seven series, either, or they'd have lost that, too. It's more like that time the Bolts ran a 1-3-1 against the Flyers so the Flyers just stood there not doing anything, except instead of lasting a minute it lasted 15 years.
