Isn't half your team gonna be free agents at the end of this season? Seems like this season  might be your one big shot. You've solved the scoring and goaltending, this is probably the strongest iteration of these Hurricanes yet.

It's gonna be a tough series.

Yeah, a very good chunk of our core over the last 5-6 years will be free agents. Teravainen, Skjei, Pesce, plus some others like Chatfield, TDA, and Martinook whose numbers are a bit easier to replace. Then you have Jarvis and Necas both as RFA's. That list doesn't even include Guentzel who is a rental. It will be an interesting off-season. But I do think we will see a shakeup and lose a key player or two.

Good luck to you guys in this slugfest of a matchup that should've been later than the second round. Should be a great series.

Best of luck to your Rangers. I have a feeling they will win this series in 6, but if there is a year for the Hurricanes to take that next big step and be a true title contender it is this year.

How does a professional sports team's social media team act like this?

The 'Bunch of Jerks' thing was fun because at least that was mocking a direct quote from a dinosaur and we were underdogs at the time. This 'Cry' stuff they are posting is so incredibly embarrassing. This team is 0-12 in conference finals games in the last 15 years. Maybe let's win ONE game in the conference finals before making crap like this.

  4. Those tweets from the Hurricanes account were cringy, but I guess they accomplished their goal and really got under the skin of some Islanders fans. Imagine being so mentally fragile about your team losing a game that you look up a staff directory to harass people.

I think the Storm Surge is great. I thought the Wings player doing the griddy earlier this season was awesome too. I loved the empty net antics that took place this season. But I don't know what to tell you if you don't cringe with secondhand embarrassment at Carolina's social media presence. A professional sports team tweeting "CRY" is simply absurd.

I agree with you on the social media team. I remember the Canes social media used to be at least a little clever with their trolling, but some of the stuff they posted last night was cringy to say the least.

  6. Also isn’t it a bit ironic so many people mock sunbelt teams for playing in cities filled with northern transplants, and belittle the fans for being arrogant. Wouldn’t this mean all those arrogant fans are actually transplants from the traditional hockey markets?  I don’t know - just asking questions.

they don't give me the impression that they want to be "part" of the greater league ecosystem

Not to beat this dead horse of a topic for the millionth time, but there is a decent sized chunk of the hockey fanbase that does not want them to be part of the greater league ecosystem. There are many who think any sunbelt team simply does not belong, no matter how successful the franchise is or how many games in a row they fill the building with fans. We can’t be too surprised when those fanbases eventually push back and say to heck with the traditional hockey fans.

I am a Canes fan, but this is some cringy tweeting. It’s been a while since I’ve gone on Twitter (since it has become laughably toxic) but I recall the Canes account used to at least be a little creative with their trolling. Nothing clever here. Not to mention it is only a 2-0 series lead in the first round. Job isn’t even close to finished yet.

I wouldn’t consider roush being back until they are the top ford team again. I’m surprised Ford ever let them fall off with all the support roush has given them in terms of performance parts. But they went from being arguably the top team in nascar to an afterthought until the end of last year. Now they atleast are a top 10 team nearly every week without bad luck.

I think one could make the argument they are the top Ford team at the moment, or at least 1B. Harvick leads Ford in regular season standings, but Brad is only 12 points behind him. Roush and Penske are tied for wins. Blaney, Buescher, and Logano are all within 6 points of each other. Penske and Roush seem to be on pretty similar levels at this point. I think most would still view Penske as the top dog since they're coming off a championship season, but Roush has put themselves in the conversation. SHR is not in the conversation at this point since the entire team is in shambles besides Harvick.

Either way, I am just happy to see Roush is relevant again. It was a tough time to be a fan from 2015-2022. I won't take this season for granted and enjoy every moment of them being competitive.

So who's this Dorian Thompson-Robinson guy? Dude looked pretty good out there! Other than being a rookie I don't know how he got kicked to 3rd string behind Kellen Mond...Monday looked horrid out there. I'd be shocked if he makes it past preseason as #2, unless Kevin Stefanski is just stubborn to keep the rook at #3.

That said, yes it's just one preseason game, but imma be real: I saw a lot of the same moxie out of Thompson-Robinson that I saw out of young Aaron Rodgers when he was still backing up the Favreness. This could get interesting for the Browns...except this is the Browns here, and I don't think even Griffin sees any reality in which Cleveland doesn't screw this up.

I know one thing, though: if this kid ever makes it as a starter, he's already got the record for longest NOB of any active QB in NFL History locked down. 😆

He actually is the 4th string at the moment. Watson-Dobbs-Mond-DTR. He will absolutely move up in the depth chart though.

There's people that think he is worth his contract?  Take his conduct out of the picture and it's still an absurd contract.  I assumed that even Browns fans knew right away that the odds were it'll end up being an albatross around their neck.

Some are gold medalists in the mental gymnastics with how they justify his contract. They'll say the Browns were never going to cut him and any contract he was given he would end up with seeing all the money anyway, so why not just make it completely guaranteed? Or they'll say that is just the price of a franchise QB, and they rarely become available.

I say it is a desperate short-sighted move from a desperate, QB-hungry franchise who is tired of being the laughing stock. So...naturally this move once again made them the laughing stock AND they got some bad PR for their troubles.

  12. The Steelers will go 8-8-1, because they have to keep up their .500 or better streak. The Browns will start out 2-4 to put us out of our misery early. By week 4 Cleveland will be calling for Stefanski's head, and by week 12 fans will finally admit Deshaun isn't worth his contract. In the off-season fans will convince themselves Watson can easily be traded for a haul of draft picks, but no team wants him and we are stuck with a middling QB on a horrible contract.

I don't make the rules, I just know how these things work.

  13. Yesterday's race wasn't great, but I generally love the road course races. They're some of the tracks I look forward to most each season. But I am a Chris Buescher fan, so that definitely helps since he is usually competitive in these races.

You guys think there's any fire regarding the Connecticut Governor re: Yotes to Hartford?

I feel that most of the fans that the Whalers abandoned have either hopped on with the Bruins, Rangers, Isles, or followed the Whalers down to Carolina.

It was discussed a few weeks ago in here I believe, but Hartford would need a new arena before they could be seriously considered. Nothing has really changed on that front since the team left for Raleigh 25 years ago. The market also isn't doing itself any favors, as the city of Hartford itself is the fourth most populated in Connecticut and continues to shrink. That doesn't necessarily mean the metro area of about 1.2 million couldn't support an NHL team, but it might make more sense to give a midwest market like Kansas City a chance, or Quebec City if you want to go the small-but-proven hockey market route.

  15. So...the Browns have this logo on their website when announcing the winner.

    061223_DawgLogo

While on their Twitter is showing this logo.

Does anyone else notice the difference in the right side of the dogs face in these logos? Or am I just losing my mind? Which one is it?

Edit: I am pointing out the extra flap/wrinkle on the dogs face in the bottom logo.

  16. I've seen this logo making rounds on social media. I like it better. The collar has more white which adds a bit more balance to it, and it takes away one of those weird flaps/wrinkles on the right side of its face to make it look a little less awkward.
