No, teal would not look good for that team. I rather keep them where he has them as. Collegiate blue looks fine with me.

Why not? It would basically be the Jacksonvillle Jaguars in the early eighties. Except a lighter gold and Navy Blue replaces Black. But the Invaders Navy Blue almost looked black anyways.  And most importantly it would get them away from the Chargers comparisons.

  2. The Invaders should get the first Teal. As for the Wranglers and Breakers. Perfect forever. Why would they need changed other than maybe light blue pants on the road for the Breakers. I think Silver is best

You guys are probably right. I was always a fan of the VooDoo name and look but the Breakers were a sweet helmet. Can’t really argue with that point. I do also support the idea above of Bob Kraft being the breakers back home tho. Best of both worlds.

I actually got VooDoo confused with another franchise in ArenaBall. They were called the New Orleans Night. So that’s my bad. The VooDoo had a pretty decent logo and the colors fit. Too many singular nicknames in the USFL though. Maybe another nickname could be thought of?.....just my 2 cents

  4. I’m glad to know you won’t be replacing the Breakers with the VooDoo. The former has one of the best unforms helmet logo and colors in the history of professional football. To replace that with a subpar Arena team logo would’ve been a grave mistake. If you end up moving Breakers back to Boston maybe try creating your own team name and logo keep the NOLA color theme. Not the awful VooDoo name or logo. That’s Arena League stuff not big time pro ball IMO

I really like these and in my mind better than their real life uniforms. Simply by reversing the color logic on the jersey . Genius! This thread is making me miss the league again for the billionth time. Just when I thought i was almost over it ;)

  6. White outlining on the helmet/pant striping. White pants at home/Gold on the road. That part doesn’t feel right I loved their white pants on the road look. It looks too 49ers w/ gold on the road. Switch to gold at home White on the road just like it was in real life.

Hi everyone.  As some of you may recall, I am running an alt-history simulation of the USFL (https://apsbertsche.wixsite.com/mysite) and we are now well past the actual 3 years that the league ran.  It is in 1988 right now, but as we move along, teams would normally start tweaking their look, some may relocate, we will have expansion.  So I am looking for some advice.  I have 3 questions for you which will help guide me into the 90's.  I will post updated designs here, such as the one below.  But first the questions.

    1. Which USFL logos or uniforms would benefit from some minor tweaks?  And what tweaks?  A few thoughts I have are:

    • Adding some black to the blue/silver Orlando Renegades (BFBS? or because it is in the logo?)
    • Adding some black to the Memphis Showboats (more BFBS)
    • Modernizing the LA Express logo.
    • Swapping the original Pittsburgh Maulers logo for the NFLE Berlin Thunder logo in purple, orange and metallic grey.
    • Either adding some detail to the Birmingham Stallions logo, or swapping it for the CFL's Baltimore Stallions logo in red/gold.

    2. Are there any USFL teams that you could see doing a major color change to be more "Xtreme" and adding teal or purple in the 90's?

    3. Are there any NFL Europe, CFL USA, or Arena Football logos/identities which you believe would fit alongside the USFL teams if we expanded.  My goal is not to create all new logo identities from scratch, but to make use of "real world" designs in a new format or with a USFL team since the WLAF/NFLE, CFL expansion, and maybe Arenaball would likely not exist in a world with a strong and ongoing USFL.

OK, those are the questions, and here, to show you what I am doing, is the first non-original USFL logo to enter the league.  In the simulation, the Chicago Blitz, rather than folding end up relocating to Baltimore after the Colts bolted.  So we have the Baltimore Blitz, who look almost identical to the 1983 Chicago Blitz, but Chicago cannot be without a team.  The USFL approved an expansion team in Chicago in 1987 (along with Orlando, San Antonio, and Oklahoma).  Here is what came out of that, a good example of repurposing an identity that would appear a few years later in another league for another city, but with a couple of tweaks (color change).   The Chicago Machine.

I have one other "imported" team which I will post soon, the merger of 2 USFL teams to form a new team.  But I am hoping to get some advice based on the questions above before I get too much further into the "new history" of the league.

I really like this one and is a huge upgrade over your original Machine uniform which was too close to the Houston Oilers.

Last one for the day:  Tampa Bay Storm.    I decided to focus on the glory years when they wore navy and gold.  The main logo is one I found on a basic search for clip art of hurricane logos.  It is from Dreamstime.com.  With Tampa I decided to...

    1. Go with the oversized logo trend.

    2. Use stripeless pants.

    3. Create a secondary TB logo.

    4. I used a very basic font.  Not sure why.

    5. Overall, it looks a bit St. Louis Ramsish, but  that is mostly the colors.

I have the Firebirds and Rattlers in the works.  Those should be up tomorrow.

The Storm look awesome this way. Like the Rams of St Louis. One of my favorite uniforms of all times. Definitely top 5 for me

I may revisit Arizona.  I love the snakeskin pattern on the actual jerseys, but I don't think my recreation of it works well, so I might redo that.  Not sure what the problem with the Jags font is.  Seems to go well with the angular qualities of the logo/pants.  I will consider.

But first, our 3rd reveal of the day.  A team with a wild, but pretty good-looking color scheme, but, in my mind a logo that does not work at all (looks like SMU had a baby with U. Michigan), so I reinvented the Mustang Logo (and not the one they went with in the late 2000's, which I did not like at all), but stuck with a lot of elements from the original Mustangs identiy.

Black, Purple & Teal Green.  What a weird combo for the Upper Midwest!!!

    Your Milwaukee Mustangs!!!

I like the darker purple. In real life it was more a blue ish purple(think Kansas ST purple). Which made it seem so bland. The purple makes the teal pop out a bit more

the Rattlers look awesome. I’d prefer a black home jersey but that’s me!

    the Firebirds are flawless.

LA is still a total disaster.

LA needs light orange pants(facemask color?) at home, black pants on the road

    problem solved!

I still want to see DC with white pants at home

Honestly, the 'Necks need to stick to silver pants at home. As the game went on i was digging the blue less and less. too dark when your helmet is the lightest color(credit goes to fellow board member jn8 who mentioned this flaw first before me!)

That kind of look only worked for the USFL Breakers

  11. Ive noticed how the Battlehawks have worn different combos each game

    1:BWS

    2:BWB

    3:BBS

    4:BBB

i'm not in love with what they wore week 4 but in my mind only all black works

    I would like to see:

    LA on the road:BWB

    LA at home:BBW

    TB on the road:GWG

    TB at home:GGW

    NY:BBS

    NY:BSB

    DC at home: RRW

DC fullfilled wish week 4 with: RWR

    Seattle on the road: WWB

    Seattle at home: WBW

    Houston at home:SRB

    Houston on the road:SWS

    Dallas at home:Blue Black White

Dallas on the road:Blue White Black(!!! that would be a huge improvement IMO)

Just to address the LA helmet stripe, if they wanted to go with a clawmark motif I still would argue that this idea (one of my concepts, sorry to toot my own horn) would have been a better way to go because it lets them get both the orange and red into the stripe.  Note the black facemasks here too.  I just think that works better.

    spacer.png

Agree its a cleaner more refined stripe, theirs has lie 4 stripes or something like that is way too much! I dont mind the orange oir black face, i think either one works but thats my opinion
