The photo below was recently tweeted and helped me realize some significant things regarding design trends in recent Super Bowl rings.

The photo was taken at the NFL Headquarters, located on Park Avenue in New York City.

As I have written about many times, you can’t walk in off the street, get in the elevator and go to lobby of the NFL. Security is incredibly tight and you must be invited to the NFL headquarters to visit.

Once in the lobby of their offices, you can see the most amazing display of Super Bowl rings known to man. Every single winning Super Bowl ring is displayed (actually they’re salesman samples but close enough).

    Here’s what the photo reveals:

    1) Although Tiffany and Company has made plenty of recent Super Bowl rings, including the Giants last two, the Saints only one, and the Seahawks only one, Tiffany is losing momentum.

I say that because as the photo shows, Jostens has made the last two of the three Super Bowl rings (they made the Pats and Ravens Super Bowl rings shown above, and Tiffany manufactured the Seahawks ring). And, keep in the mind that the Broncos have already selected Jostens to make their new 2015 Bronco Super Bowl ring.

    2) In my humble opinion, the two Jostens Super Bowl rings shown are much nicer in design and implementation than the Seahawks ring.

    3) The final revelation in the photo is that Patriots ring is so much larger and massive than any other Super Bowl ring ever produced. It’s quite evident as you can compare the last three Super Bowl rings.

    Any thoughts on these rings?

I think Tiffany did a great job on the last Giants ring and Saints ring but yeah the last two rings for the Seahawks were disappointing.

  2. Yeah it will be interesting if Jostens makes both the winner and losers rings this year.  They made the Panthers only ring and they made the Broncos last AFC ring and Super Bowl ring.  After see last years Pats rings it would be hard for a team to turn down Jostens, especially after Tiffany's terrible Seattle NFC Ring.

  3. I

I don´t think a superbowl ring should say world champions, why can´t it just say superbowl champions ? To make matters worse there is a NFC and a AFC ring, what side of the world are they representing then.

I am okay with the baseball world series, but american football champs have no business calling themselves world champs it´s just lame, the game is played literally nowhere else in the world.

    Absolutely ridiculous post

I agree - the original reply was silly! The NFL team that wins is the World Champion. The NFL is not Arena football or College football. It is the best of the best.

I thought they were super bowl champions.

Why is it not called the world championship then ?

Why do NBA rings say world champions even though basketball is played all over the world. Why is it called the World Series when all but one team are from the USA? Your logic doesn't work

  4. Yeah I always thought the Packers ring was small overall, until I saw the picture that I posted up above and it's really not. Weight wise yes but overall look it's a decent size. I think that's what makes the packers rings classic is that there not huge and gaudy. Their big enough to get your attention but not so much that their screaming "look at me".

  5. Anyone want to talk about the ring designs from Super Bowl XXX?

    sb30c.jpg

The ring on the left is the Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl Ring from their 1995 season. This ring was designed and manufactured by a company called Diamond Cutters in 14K solid yellow gold. I believe when this ring was designed and manufactured, it was labeled as largest Super Bowl ring ever.

Like the 49ers Super Bowl ring from the season before, it was designed with five massive marquis diamonds - each commemorating a Cowboys Super Bowl championship.

While at the time this championship ring was crafted, the vast majority of Super Bowl rings were made by Jostens and Balfour. That's still true today as long as you now include Tiffany & Company in the mix.

The Cowboys chose Diamond Cutters for this championship ring and they paid the price - by getting a ring that had very poorly made shanks (sides of the ring).

While the top is stunning, the sides, in my opinion, and the opinion shared by most championship ring enthusiasts, look like a knock off ring. The wording is not crisp, and over time, the 14K wears down from constant wearing of the ring and this adds to the poor look.

Just like with he Forty Niners from the season before, no one knew at the time the Cowboys would enter into a Super Bowl drought and not be back in the title game since. Both the Forty Niners and the Cowboys, now for about two decades are still waiting for their next Super Bowl ring.

The team that loses the Super Bowl is recognized as a champion of their respective conference. The Pittsburgh Steelers 1995 AFC championship ring, shown above, is a very nicely designed ring.

The Steelers AFC championship ring weighs in at 50 grams and contains a large diamond surrounded by plenty of smaller diamonds.

The Steelers AFC championship ring was designed and made by Jostens in solid yellow 10K gold.

I really like the look of this ring, especially the way the Steelers helmet is shown on the side, in the colors, black, gold, and the three colors found in the team logo. The color adds a nice touch and so does the player's uniform number, inserted onto the helmet, just like it's seen on the real helmets.

To see the side view of this championship ring, please visit my Super Bowl gallery link, located at my website's main page.

Any comments about these two rings?

Yeah the top of the ring is awesome!! But agree the sides are terrible, but I've never been impressed with any of the diamond cutters ring. The 1997 Bronocs ring is the worst ring I've ever seen. That's why a lot of teams stick with the big companies like Jostens, Tiffanys, Balfour ect

  6. My ranking would be,

    1. 13, love the red, great look overall

    2. 15, nice and clean, needs some color though

    3. 10, nice, but too big and it looks the same as those before it, unoriginal

I have to agree. Your analysis is spot on.

Mine would be the order they received them. The first one I like because it's big and gawdy. With all of them I think the feathers should have had colored stones.

  7. I've seen the Pats ring on Gronks hand and it's HUGE! The problem is that the larger these rings get the less the players will actually wear them pretty much defeating the purpose. When I met Charles Woodson a few years ago I asked why he wasn't wearing his ring. He told me that it was so heavy that his hand would get tired and it left calluses on his other fingers. Even in an interview John Elway says he doesn't wear his because they are uncomfortable and didn't allow him to put his hands in his pockets. So while the players my want huge rings in the end they'll tell you later in life they'd prefer smaller.

  8. I believe this is the new seahawks ring and I can tell by the box, it was made by Tiffany and company.

it is remarkably similar to the high-end fan rings from their super bowl victory...

I will research this and write about this on my blog tomorrow morning,

That's Really Disappointing, To Be Honest I think It's ugly
