  1. I think one of the more impressive things with SVG's victory is he was switching gears the entire race with the opposite hand because he's used to using his left hand from sitting on the right side of the car.

I think SVG deserves a lot of praise on getting his first win on his first start. But, before we start crowning him as the next big thing, let's not forget that 7-time Jimmie Johnson has STRUGGLED in this new car. I understand that he's driving the third car for a team that was already a Chevy after-thought before they announced their OEM switch, but he has underachieved big time.

I'm not trying to take anything away from his win, but he had the same experience as far as the track at Chicago as everyone else.

Oh, and there was this  Saturday night after the game. My nephew Jacob just graduated from LSU, has been a student staff sports photographer for the last three years, and traveled with the team to Omaha:

Apparently there was an NCAA photographer being a jerk to him. LSU baseball team took care of him and got Jacob up front to take the victory photo.

    To hell.with the NCAA...

That. is. AWESOME. Congrats to your nephew! It was a lot of fun watching this team this season and how cool for your nephew that he got to be a part of it. Geaux Tigers!

This was pretty funny IMO. Also, I have to appreciate how the NFL has turned the release of the schedule into must-see TV.

There's so many little easter eggs in the Bears one. The Chargers did a great job.

Last time I saw a sea hawk roaming the sky, it didn’t have lime green or navy blue on it whatsoever. Nor did the bronco I saw grazing a Colorado pasture have an orange mane. Who came up with these colors?

Last time I was wandering the woods by myself, I came across a blue & orange bear in an open clearing. The Bear was wearing aviator sunglasses and it was eating deep dish pizza & I thought to myself, "It all makes sense now."

I love this, although there is something quite college-y about it. Not big on the helmet, but don't love their current helmet either.

Even with the gold, my mind went right to TCU when I saw it.

  6. I've been following this thread for the last few days. Every twist and every turn. Let me tell you, if we go from Red/Orange/Some weird color to plain red/white jerseys, that really will be something. Kudos to the Cardinals for keeping all of this under-wraps. Now, let's see if they can make it through the home-stretch.

  7. As expected, Ty Gibbs will be racing full-time for JGR in Cup next year. Unexpectedly, Ty will be driving the 54 car and JGR has stated that the 18 will be used in the future.

Also, Ryan Preece will be taking over the 41 for the 2023 season with Cole Custer returning to the XFinity Series.

Hopping in to put a bow on the 2022 season with updates from the weekend:

    • Just hours after celebrating the 2022 Xfinity Series Championship with his son, Coy Gibbs, 49, passed away suddenly early Sunday morning. Coy was listed as co-owner of Joe Gibbs Racing and was the father of Ty, who had just won the Xfinity title the night before. Coy's cause of death has not been reported, but in the official statement released by JGR, Coy passed away in his sleep. As a result of Coy's passing, Ty stepped-away from the #23 for 23XI Racing Sunday and was replaced by Kaulig Xfinity Driver, Daniel Hemric.

    • Meanwhile, the Championship race continued as-scheduled. Polesitter Joey Logano won the opening stage and dominated the remainder of the race en-route to his 31st career victory and, more importantly, his 2nd career Cup Series title. Logano finishes the year with four victories, 11 top-fives, 17 top-tens, and an average finish of 13.5.

Horrible news about Coy Gibbs. Can't imagine the highest of highs that the Gibbs family had on Saturday to the absolute worst on Sunday.

Congrats to Logano on getting that 2nd championship. 2 championships, 31 wins, and he's still only 32 years old.

  9. Glad to have Jimmie back & excited on what he can bring to Petty GMS Racing. There was a rumor a couple months ago when Junior started talking about bringing JRM to Cup that he might buy into Petty GMS, now I'm wondering if there was more substance to that.

Can someone explain to me like I'm 5 why that move worked and what exactly happened? I don't follow Nascar that closely and I haven't been able to find a good summarization.

    1. Huge difference in straightaway speed vs. corner speed
    2. While other drivers were shifting down, Chastain shifted to 5th gear, took his hands off the wheel, and let the wall guide the car around.

    3. Durability/stiffness of the new car -- For all the reasons the car is unsafe, it doesn't rip apart easily.
    4. Cars riding the bottom groove at Martinsville - There's no high lane at Martinsville.. if any car was in his way during the maneuver, he's taking out himself, that car, and possibly more.
    5. Short distance from corner exit to start/finish line

  11. Getting rid of the one-helmet rule has turned into what people were afraid the MLB’s City Connect program was going to be come.

For throwback purposes, I’m all for accurate helmets. But with some of the BFBS helmets that have debuted the last week and now the Bears, it’s definition “just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.”

This one is confusing since Hendrick has valvoline as a sponsor for William Byron and Kyle Larson. I would have expected on of them to rock the paint scheme. Also the new number placement makes no sense with this scheme without moving the stripes forward to match the number placement.

I believe it was Bowman's request to honor Mark Martin. Since HMS has the Valvoline sponsorship, they were probably able to convince Ally to go-along with it.

As for the new number placement, it doesn't bother me so much with this scheme. It at least looks ok. Keselowski is also honoring Mark Martin by running his 2004 Darlington scheme and the number placement makes it look awful.

Keselowski and RFK also announced that he'll be rocking an all-white look for Talladega with Castrol as the sponsor.

Apparently if Oklahoma leaves, then Ok State has to go with them.

Not the case. A lot of that had to do with T. Boone Pickens who was a huge booster for Oklahoma State. With him passing away a couple years ago, any theoretical marriage between OU and OK State dissolved.

Today we have the Crosstown rival White Sox:

As a White Sox fan, I really like the South Sider's City Connect unis. However, I wanted to try the design with red in place of silver, both as a nod to the local Bulls and Blackhawks and also because it's a color scheme commonly suggested for the team. I'm also not a big fan of the "Chi" cap logo, so I replaced it with a tasteful Old English "C." Lastly, WHITE SOCKS.

    The Red Sox are next!

I love that the red can be a call back to the 1959 "Go-Go" White Sox. Well done.

  15. After MSG is forced to move in 10 years, the city can't find a new spot for the Garden. The Knicks are forced to relocate and move to Maine. They change their colors to red, white, and black and rename themselves the Maine Lobsterclaws. The move doesn't go over well and they fold by 2025.

Jerry Reinsdorf passes away suddenly in 2018. After his death, his sons see a business opportunity and sell the Bulls to Rich Ehrenreich. Ehrenreich sees this purchase as a huge opportunity and moves the Bulls to Zion, a city north of Chicago, and renames the team the Lake County Ballers. The relocation causes the Bulls to lose many sponsors and fans. Ehrenreich comes up with an elaborate plan for a new stadium, however it isn't in time for the 2019 season. The Ballers are forced to play all 82 games away from home. The following season, the stadium is still not done. Instead what has been erected is a blacktop basketball court with a canopy over it and high school bleachers surrounding it. The Ballers play approximately 6 home games and fold. Investors lose millions of dollars and Ehrenreich moves to parts unknown.

    Am I doing this right?
