Several really strong logos and concepts here, but not sure what the connection is to the USFL.  Seems like a whole new league rather than a callback to the USFL.  That said, the art itself is solid.

I was thinking the same exact thing. Some good identities and design there, but it has no connection to the USFL.

the current USFL has been criticized for too much red.  Well bringing back the Gunslingers and just modernizing the logos and make the jersey's more like the Seahawks prevents the red.

Given the climate we currently live in I doubt the Gunslingers name will make a come back.

add a Western Division so I can go to Gold games in Denver.

I’m right there with you. I grew up about 2 hours from Tampa and went to many Bandits game but I’ve lived in the Boulder, CO area for nearly 26 years now and am hoping for a revived Gold so I can adopt them as my team.

  4. I'm quite sure that it isn't a speedboat of any kind, as has already been mentioned, it's likely an update of the original logo as they have already done with the other teams.

And yea, we all understand that teams (except Birmingham) didn't play in their markets with the hub last season so mentioning that is getting a bit tiresome.

  5. Parts of me finds this whole thing hilarious. I grew up in the American south and we used to call Red Man chewing tobacco red leaf so now they are promoting the use of tobacco products?

Of course I'm not serious there, but folks can find issues with so many nicknames these days that it's pathetic and funny at the same time.

Nice job with the Bandits. Although, I wonder if they might be a farm affiliate for the Bucs because of the color similarities.

The Bucs were still creamsicle when the Bandits came into existence, so perhaps the Bucs, if they made a color change in this fictional universe, were trying to be more like the Bandits. Back in the 80's when the USFL started the Bucs were abysmal and the Bandits were good and a ton of fun.

I grew up in the Tampa area, graduated high school in 1986 and went to many games from both teams.

Interesting. Their current one feels so cool and timeless, I don't see the need for a change - especially when the new one doesn't really feel like a huge step forward the way the Alouettes and the Elks ones did.

Agreed, their existing logo is just such a classic, but I'm sure they sometimes do these things to create a new revenue stream with folks wanting to buy merchandise with the new logo on it. I'd also assume as we saw with Edmonton bringing back the double E that introducing this doesn't just get rid of the old completely.

I love that the CFL allows numerous looks for their teams like this...unlike the stuffy ol' NFL.

  8. I think the updated Stallions logo and helmet are the first ones in this series that I don't really care for. I don't hate it, but something about that logo on the helmet just doesn't do it for me. Perhaps it needs something akin to a Michigan Panthers inspired helmet treatment or an oversized version of the logo.

Not sure, but just seems a little off for me although I seem to be in the minority for sure.

Also, the Monday night game was rescheduled from a rainout the previous night.  (One might ask how a football game gets rained out. But that's a different topic.)

It was the lightning and at that point the late hour, not the rain.

Besides optimism, what makes you think the league will last -- especially when you comp it to previous spring leagues who all folded within a year.

It's fairly obvious at this point that trying to discuss this with you is a wasted effort, so I'm pretty much done interacting with you.

I don't think it will succeed, at this point in the game I have a healthy dose of skepticism that any spring league will succeed and last. And am however hoping that the USFL or the XFL (or ideally both) do make it, I don't have a preference either way and in that direction I will continue to be optimistic, look to the bright side and think about the positive things while keeping the negative in mind without trumpeting doom and gloom.

Are there already some red flags with the USFL? Sure there are, just like their will be with the XFL. The thing that gets my goat is the constant negativity out of many people and the off-base observations.

For example I've seen in many places people talking about the lack of people in the stands and they fail to take into account that Fox right now has plans for this as a made-for-TV product to fill air time. They also fail to bother with attributing the Sunday attendance with the fact that their was a weather delay and it was Easter Sunday...ditto for the Monday rescheduled game at which the honored the Sunday tickets but I'm sure many already had plans and whatnot.

Bottom line, just turn away if you want to be negative, life is too short and if it's not your thing then that's fine and dandy.

And what does the USFL have going for them?

Off the top of my head...they are currently playing games, they have a three year plan with funding set aside by Fox, they also have a partnership for games airing on NBC networks/streaming as well. I'd say right now that's enough.

At this point I'm just rooting for one of these spring leagues to stick around for the long haul to give me some spring football to watch.

It also beats anything USFL has going for them.

Honest question here, I'm very curious as to why, with the constant negativity, you continue to waste your time discussing something you fully expect to fail and don't seem to be backing at all. If that's not your intention then my apologies, but it's certainly the way your posts come across.

@Skycast are you like a burner account for the USFL or something?

Why? Because I like to look to the positive side of things?

Like it doesn't make sense that there's a little more to that story than just the dude wanting a piece of pizza.

    Give me a break.

Yikes. I remember when the AAF got started and DFWable seemed to take it upon himself to make it his mission to cheer for it's quick death.  I see some of you gloomy mopes are applying for a similar position here.

You guys must be fun at parties.

It's sad man, but it seems to be the nature of message boards and forums and comments on the internet. Folks are just way too negative, shout out that nobody cares, etc., yet they bother and take the time to comment on something they declare sucks, or is going to be a failure or nobody cares about.

I'm not even sure why they bother to be honest.

The attendance today hasn't been great.

Agreed, but keep in mind there was bad weather causing a delay for the first game and it’s also Easter Sunday. The Saturday night Stallions game looked to have had a decent crowd.

  16. Overall the uniforms and helmets looked good I’d say. I surely did dig the dark blue and gold colors they used on the scoreboard, time graphic for Generals. I wouldn’t mind seeing them shift to that color scheme at some point if the league sticks around…it would certainly give a little more color diversity.
