  1. AJ made it four in a ROVAL yesterday, becoming one of the first (if not the first) to win the same race four years in a row in the Xfinity Series.

Christopher Bell needed to win, and he ended up doing that. Hendrick winning the appeal of Byron's penalty at Texas inadvertently screwed over Kyle Larson because of Bell winning.

So in both Xfinity and Cup, there will be new champions crowned in Phoenix in November.

  2. He's back, boys.

AJ Allmendinger is going to be racing full-time in the Cup Series in 2023, for the first time since 2018. He'll be driving the 16 car.

Replacing him in Xfinity will be Chandler Smith. It's at least a two car operation right now with Smith and Cassill. They're trying to get stuff done to keep Hemric around.

I'm excited for AJ and the team, obviously, but he's going to be 41, and considering he left Cup with a whimper with JTG, I'm cautiously optimistic.

I thought for certain they'd be hitching their wagon to Hemric. I guess Smith is now the team's end goal. Toyota loses another promising young talent because of the power structure within the manufacturer.

    So yesterday we had:

    - A Truck driver receive burns from a pretty bad fire

    - A Truck driver get his first win due to his them throwing a caution 1000 feet before the finish (I'm not going to excuse it even though Debby finally won, but I feel for Bret Holmes)

    - Quite possibly the cleanest plate race I've seen in a while in the Xfinity race

    - A thrilling photo finish in the Xfinity race (Go Dinger!)

TBH, I feel scared for this Cup race. After seeing the tire farce at Texas, and the multiple drivers having concussion problems, I have a feeling something bad will happen at this race today. That could mean that the drivers might drive with a little more caution, but I don't know.

A little ironic that the Cup race ended up being relatively quiet outside of the crash; which could've been a lot worse.

  4. Dave Campo is, and will probably always be, the worst head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

IDK what Jerry saw in him, but he was rewarded with utter garbage, a rogue's gallery at quarterback, and three successive seasons of 5-11.

At least the guy before him (Gailey) made it to a playoff game; and sure they got pantsed at home by Arizona, but he at least got them there. And the turnaround with Parcells was night and day, further solidifying the fact that Campo should've never been the head coach.

  5. North Wilkesboro coming back from the dead and taking something from Texas (in this case; the All-Star race) is poetic justice for 1997.

Hindsight is obviously 20/20, but I think they made the right decision in trying to strike while the iron was hot. I don't blame them for trying. It just didn't end up panning out at the end of the day. But, admitting mistakes were made and attempting to atone for the sins of the past shows they realized mistakes were made and want to try to make things right.

  6. I think the reason why people are so high on Kyle Busch going to Kaulig is Matt has pretty deep pockets, what with his LeafFilter business, and the many of other sponsors he and his team have their fingers in (Celsius, Nutrien Ag, Cirkul, Gold Fish slots, etc.), Matt could easily write Kyle a blank check. And, considering the 16 has been this year, a revolving door with Allmendinger, Hemric, and Gragson; signing Busch would be huge for the young team. It would solidify the car, with no more three-headed monster, and it would allow the team to focus on having two teams going for the Cup championship, and three in Xfinity. I think that at least for the road courses (especially the upcoming Chicago street course next year), they can go up to 3 Cup cars and have AJ and Daniel Hemric race on Sundays, as well as Saturdays.

Adding KBM would beefen up Kaulig Racing's portfolio and give them another channel for sponsorship and TV time. The probable sticking point would be the obvious change in manufacturer; from Toyota to Chevrolet, but this is something I think Matt and his guys can easily take care of. Might be one of the things in the possible "blank check" he'd offer.

Also, Kyle has his own energy drink, and Kaulig has one too in Celsius (which is a sparkling water type drink, but sort of behaves like an energy drink), and that might be a possible conflict of interests. But, I think they have something in place that both could operate in their own gravity without much (if any) overlap.

Would Kyle want to join them, though? They're full of infectious, happy, and excitable personalities. I mean AJ celebrates each win like it's his last, and Chris Rice literally can't stop smiling. I find it humorous that a standoffish, stubborn, short tempered, stick in the mud like Kyle Busch would want to join them. Now, I'm not knocking Kyle Busch for being a fierce competitor, it's just his documented personality just seems like the complete opposite of what Kaulig is.

I do think Kyle saw what Brad Keselowski did, sees him struggling yes; and I think he wants to show him and the rest of NASCAR he could do what Brad did with his eyes closed.

  7. While it's not a present day discussion, today marks the 25th anniversary of Ricky Rudd winning the Brickyard 400.

I was just five years old, and was a huge Ricky Rudd fan (that bright orange caught my eye), and I cheered my little heart out that final dash to the finish. I'm 30 years old now, and just got finished watching the race that was such a huge point in my childhood; and I still feel my heart flutter a bit when he crosses the finish line to win, just like I did back in 1997.

He was one of the many legends that they got together to pose for a group picture on the yard of bricks before the IndyCar race on Saturday.

(Second from left on the bottom row, right next to Sam Hornish). Also, my current favorite driver, AJ Allmendinger is photographed here from winning last year's race. So, I was very happy seeing my two favorite drivers off all time rubbing elbows with all these legends like Mario Andretti, AJ Foyt, Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon.

I've collected a bunch of pieces of memorabilia from this race, because it means so much to me.

    Spoiler

I've had the 1:24 scale diecast for pretty much 20 years. I got the program (complete with the insert as well) from a yard sale a few years ago. The 1:64 scale I got two of, from a lot off of eBay late last year. Earlier this year, I capped off my collection with both a ticket for the race, as well as a VIP Pass.

Anyway I just wanted to share this special moment for me in this a notable anniversary.

  8. My mind blanked, and didn't realize that the Trucks were racing this weekend. Oops.

As for Suarez, he was definitely brought up too quickly; which is why Gibbs is tepid about his grandson. Considering that Ty is his grandson; he's for sure not going to want him to follow that same path.

  9. Daniel Suarez became the 5th foreign born (and first from Mexico) driver to win a Cup race. And he pretty much dominated, this wasn't a fluky (or an "Alex Bowman", as Kyle Busch put it) win, he was the pacemaker for well over half the race. It's the first time since 2014 that the 99 visited Victory Lane, also at Sonoma.

All of NASCAR is off this weekend, before all 3 series descend upon Nashville. It's also the last broadcast for FOX, at least for this season. They'll be back for the Great American Race, like they usually do.

  10. If I had the choice between Texas and the ASR, I'm keeping the ASR. Texas is just terrible, boring, uneventful, etc. The first two races were absolutely messy with opening lap crashes, but they did show up. But they slowed killed the racing at the track.

The All-Star Race can be salvaged, but I don't think racing at Texas can.

  11. AJ Allmendinger's best friend wins the Daytona 500. (For those of you wondering, I refer to Austin Cindric as AJ's best friend since their tangle at the end of Stage 1 of last years Xfinity race at the Daytona RC.)

I agree that the new car sucks right now; but I chalk it up to the race and the fact it's a new car. They should look at the car and smooth out the racing before the next plate race at Talladega.
