  1. Guys here is a link to Baseball Hall of Fame and they have some of WS rings pictures.

It was only a few months ago that I saw Red Sox donated World Series ring to the HOF and I was very surprised that it had the words "Commissioner" and "Selig" on the shank.

Well it turns out they have been doing that all along and I had no idea.

I think it is really cool and respectful to the history of the game and HOF that teams do that. There are the names of every commissioner going back to Kune on the shanks of rings. Some say "hall of fame" instead of the name of the commish. And of course the one Jack a.. who would have his own name on the shank is J. Loria, owner of Marlins who is just in baseball to steal money from hard working tax payers of FL.

    Enjoy the pics.

  2. Hey Karl here is a video of Jostens rep handing out FSU rings and referring to the BCS as precious metal, silver ring.

Jostens used to sell either 10K or 14K gold ring along with white and yellow Lustrium rings. Now they have added Silver ring and gold plated silver rings. Price is about twice as much as Lustrium rings so not too expensive. I think cut off for college rings are $400.00 per rings. So I think Jostens is able to mass produce them for that amount. Since that was the very last BCS ring I don't know if they make anymore with that metal. I assume all 4 playoff rings will get some form of ring from NCAA just like Final Four in CBB.

Hey Mike thank you for the information.

That was a very interesting article. I think you can even see a picture of the plane that is shows on the ring. So cool.

  3. Hey Karl, I agree with the Silver issue, that is why after years Jostens was able to come up with their own metal to use in rings. This is from Jostens website:

Lustrium® - A non-precious metal alloy that is silver in color; it is a hard and durable metal.

Silver Elite® - A precious metal alloy primarily composed of silver with elements of palladium and gold, coated with a rhodium plating.

Rhodium Plating - A member of the Platinum metals group. Rhodium is a silvery, metallic colored precious metal. It is an extremely hard material and is highly resistant to corrosion and it is used extensively in the fine jewelry industry. Rhodium provides protection for Silver Elite®, coating it to help prevent tarnish and scratches. It is very durable and prevents skin oil from dulling the ring. Rhodium is most commonly plated on white gold and sterling silver jewelry.

Jostens had exclusive BSC championship rings with NCAA. One of the issues was they agreed to provide precious metals instead of the none precious Lustrium. So BCS rings are Silver Elite -SEW.

  4. I was wondering who has the most SB appearance, which would make most SB and conference championship rings combined?

My research showed Dan Reeves with 9 SB appearance but he ended up with only 2 SB rings and 7 Conference championship rings.

He went to 2 SB as a player with Cowboys, 3 SB as assistant coach with Cowboys and 4 SB as head coach with Denver and Atlanta. Sadly for him he lost all 4 SB appearances as head coach, 3 with Denver in 4 years and of course lost with Falcons in 1998 to of all teams Denver! (Cant make this stuff up).

I think next is Bill Belichick. He has been to 8 SB, 2 as assistant with Giants, 1 as assistant with Pats and 5 more as head coach of Pats.

As a Patriots fan I am very optimistic he will win another SB ring this year.

Reeves is no longer in coaching, he does Westwood One radio broadcasting NFL games. I have seen him wearing a ring, but don't know which one it would be. I am assuming its tough to pick which ring out of 9 to wear. On one hand I would want to wear a SB ring but its hard since he did not win it as a head coach and I think most people remember him as a head coach of Denver coaching Elway. What dilemma to have in life? Only Karl and I would think of such stuff! Lol

  5. I have been reading about the Jim Brown's case. No doubt the ring was stolen to begin with. They are smearing Jim Brown to try to cover-up being thieves.

They will end up giving him the ring back or paying him for it as it appears he was content with never having the ring and never asked Brown's to make him another ring.

  6. Hey Mike thanks for posting updates on the Jim Brown ring.

It seems very likely now the ring was stolen and that he had in fact never sold it or given it to anyone.

I though Leland was one of the more reputable auction houses. The 45+ grams 14K Super Bowl ring was valued at $1000.!? The cost of gold alone is more than $1000 much less the fact that it was a championship ring, and then of all people, it was Jim Brown's ring! "It was all done with a hand shake"! Really?

When you realize even Pawn shops have higher standard than memorabilia dealers, you realize what a crook most these guys are.

If I walked into any pawn shop with a SB ring and told them I got it on a hand shake they would call the policed and tell them I have a stolen ring. Somehow to multiple reputable auction houses it seemed perfectly fine that a "distant relative" of Jim Brown had bough the ring for 0.01% of the actual value "with a hand shake". The greedy bastards turn around and sell the ring for $110,000.00 and try to destroy Jim Brown's reputation. Hope they all go to hell.

  7. It is a great problem to have Mike, mathcing rings and watches.

At the very least have to match the watch and the ring colors.

I have 3 rings, yellow gold rings go with two tone yellow gold tone and silver band watches, white gold goes with all stainless steel band (I also match color of the ring stone with color of the face of the watch).

Jimmy Johnson does a great job matching his all gold Rolex with his yellow gold Dallas Cowboys SB rings.

Gruden wears different watches with his Tampa Bay gold ring, but he never gets it right. Either the watch is too small or its wrong color.

Barry Switzer did a good job too, both OK national championship and Cowboys SB ring went well with his gold Rolex (I guess everything goes well with a Gold Rolex).

Aikman has started to wear his rings too now on Fox broadcasts. I see lot of the retired NFL coahces wearing their rings on TV these days.

Jerry Jones might have lost one of his rings in the last bathroom break few weeks ago. Wouldn’t be surprised if one of those girls has one of his rings! Lol

  8. Hey Mike:

I think you might like this story for your blog.

I don't know jack about Hockey, but Toronto is going to hand out Stanley Cup rings for their championship run in 1960's. Apparently back than they only gave out one ring and only changed the size of the diamond after each championship.

Great article in TSN also, stating back then players paid for the rings themselves and club only gave them colored TV!

This is a class act thing to do if you ask me.

I am not sure if this is the picture of the actual ring or not. Tiffany & Co. is making the rings.

  9. Great pics Mike, thank you.

BTW do you realize you probably have the largest Super Bowl Championship ring collection in the World?

I don't think any other collector in the world has as many rings as you do?

Tim Robbins and Scott W. might have seen more rings but I don't think they are collecting them.

Ymar has a big collection of rings, but I think he has the most complete NCAA CFB National Championship ring collection.

Anyhow, hope your collection keeps growing and you keep posting pics.

  10. Anyone have ideas of what the San Antonio Spurs championship ring will look like?

    I don't think anyone does.

These championship ring designs are top secret and they don't share them with public until after rings are handed out at first home game which will be sometimes in October.

So far Spurs have been using a smaller company "Masters of design" for their previous 4 rings.

Top NBA ring maker in the country is Jostens which also made the last 2 Miami Heat rings.

Jostens usually puts out a news bulletin a month or two in advance of handing out the rings that they got the contract but they will not give any details of the rings.

  11. Hey Mike Congrats on the Seahawks ring and thanks for posting the information on your blog.

Didn't think it was that heavy, based on the visual size I would have guessed close to 60 grams tops.

It just baffles me Seahawks rings is so small at 26 mm and even smaller in size than Denver's AFC ring. (Raven's ring is 40 mm and NYG last Tiffany ring was 30 MM)

I remember a few years ago staff of Lakers and Celtics posted pics of their 2009 and 2008 rings side by side on the internet. I wonder if Seahawks players will be surprised to see Denver's rings look bigger when they play each other in a few days.

I also think Denver should have done a lot more with the shanks. Considering that was the 7th AFC championship for them they could have showed that on the shanks as their previous AFC rings were as detailed as some super bowl rings.

Anyhow, all of these size questions will come to an end when Pats come out with their 2014 SB rings, largest and heaviest SB rings of all time! 40+ MM and 125 grams!

  12. Lelands has withdrawn Jim Browns 1964 championship ring....

Something is fishy here. Why would Jim Brown give the ring away to his family member? And where was he all these years? Never filed a police report till now?

BTW epic tats ridenlow, wow! Really cool, that is some dedication to the team and Super Bowl rings. Respect.
