The Sharks have one of the most wealthy owners in the league, but he’s pretty much absentee due to being based in Europe. It’s not so much a money issue as it is them expecting a Bay Area city to foot the bill on an arena for them. They’re basically playing the “That’s a nice hockey team you’ve got there. Would be are shame if they had to move” angle. Too bad that city has already publicly said they would probably be better off financially without the Sharks.

It’s one of those things that’ll probably be solved relatively quickly as long as Sharks ownership isn’t dumb enough to try and pull a bunch of crap, and realize that if they want a new building, they’ll have to pay for it. If they don’t, I could legitimately see the city of San Jose deciding to not work with them at all. A lot of cities in the country, especially Bay Area cities, aren’t going to get exploited by these teams any longer. No matter of it costs them the team or not.

Okay, that makes sense if you're discussing the stadium situation. And yea, I've never been thrilled with Plattner behind the gun but SFGiants was making it sound like there was way more dysfunction across the board and I was like, "The hell are you talking about?"

  2. I know it was a long and drawn out process, so in some sense it must be nice as a fan to finally know the team is relocating and you don't have that "what if" question lingering over you every season. If what I read is correct, I hope the team are able to get new owners and be able to make an investment that can actually let this team prosper and become their own minor success story of Sun Belt hockey, like the Preds, Bolts and my Sharks.

Rest easy Coyotes. I'll always remember you for 2012 and those delightful kachina jerseys. Please join the league again someday.

  3. Not much to add at this point that hasn't been said. I'm rooting against KC moving forward. They've gotten rings and have become a new dynasty when we could be benefitting from an age of parity, or at the very least, more teams playing for titles besides San Francisco and them.

I tire of their faces and while the first two were fine, this one has been the limit. I'm sure though Mahomes gets at least one more in this decade and continues the comparison talk to Brady, which is kinda weird because once New England was finally done I was more confident we'd need to wait at least another decade or two before we'd see a team get to a Super Bowl a bunch of times within a decade or so.

Was it a good game? No. But it was a fun one and I guess that's all we can ask for.

Even if it ended in heartbreak, still a helluva season for the Lions. They'll absolutely be back soon enough with all their young talent. Wishing them the best next near.

I can't just drag an image in this forum as easily as I should, but I saw a Tweet with a list that shows recent failures of this with the following teams:

    2007 Chargers

    2009 Jets

    2009 Vikings

    2010 Jets

    2010 Bears

    2014 Colts

    2015 Cardinals

    2017 Jaguars

    2019 Titans

    2020 Bills

    2020 Packers

  5. You know what, at this point I accept my spot in midcard Hell. I more or less hovered around 10th or so place since the halfway point and that's just alright with me. Was a fun one and I think this was the first one I completed in full in quite some time. Happy 2024 folks.

    Pittsburgh vs. Baltimore

    Houston vs. Indianapolis

    Tampa Bay vs. Carolina

    Atlanta vs. New Orleans

    NY Jets vs. New England

    Cleveland vs. Cincinnati

    Jacksonville vs. Tennessee

    Minnesota vs. Detroit

    Philadelphia vs. NY Giants

    Dallas vs. Washington

    Seattle vs. Arizona

    LA Rams vs. San Francisco

    Chicago vs. Green Bay

    Kansas City vs. LA Chargers

    Denver vs. Las Vegas

    Buffalo vs. Miami

  6. Dang. I continue to hover around five games back of first in this logjam near the top. Got to take a risk here and there to try and break through.

    Raiders

    Vikings

    Steelers

    Lions

    Saints

    Bears

    Falcons

    Packers

    Dolphins

    Chiefs

    Texans

    Niners

    Rams

    Cowboys

    Ravens

    Eagles

  7. To echo McCarthy's point, Steelers fans aren't used to the suck anymore. When your franchise hasn't gone through a sustained period of crap, you forget how spoiled you've been and how sports aren't designed for the same seven or eight teams to be stalwarts, winning divisions and fighting for titles. I'm living it now with the Sharks and although I bitched about rooting for a bridesmaid team, I'll admit that years of no postseason activity is worse than I expected.

  8. Wow, still hanging around, only five games back of the top. Has this been one of the closest standings in years as we get to December? I think it may well be. Like I've said before, I'm at the point where you got to take a leap on two or three teams to try and close that gap.

    Lions

    Cowboys

    Niners

    Dolphins

    Bucs

    Giants

    Steelers

    Titans

    Jags

    Saints

    Rams

    Broncos

    Eagles

    Chiefs

    Chargers

    Bears

  9. I appreciate those trying to incorporate the loon somehow. Be kinda funny to see one of those choices make it into the final few for serious consideration.

Also a fine chuckle to the one that submitted "bayg" with a plastic bag on it. Now that's someone we got the assignment!

  10. It still amazes me that Roundball was written by John Tesh of all people. Had you put that on Millionaire back in the day, I'd likely be walking home with the $32,000 safe level prize.

Also, I'm not sure which the name of it but sometimes the bumper music for the MLB on TNT has a riff that sounds kinda similar to me to the one from "In Too Deep" by Sum 41. I assure you this is a weird comparison that only way weird mind would make, but like that wrestling theme comment DGNow made in that thread about underlying similarities, once I heard it I can't unhear it.

My mom used to do traffic & continuity. I am fully in my element listening to talk about clocks and avails, bump sheets and affidavits. A computer in the guest bedroom that had DOS without Windows and only ran CBSI. Those were the days. Anyway, I hope next year Fox can sell some inventory before they have to resort to spots about why your business should buy spots.

Your mom probably knew the guy behind the Max Headroom incident, didn't she? Was she the one with the fly swatter? Don't lie know Admiral.

  12. Damn, even with two pretty good weeks back to back, it somehow feels like I lost ground. I get the impression that if I can't sneak into that top ten in the next two weeks, my chances of getting in the top five of the table is pretty much all for naught. Oh well, still proud of the record overall.

    Jaguars

    Vikings

The 2001 Yankees were also a team of destiny. How did that World Series end up?

True, but how often does the trend get bucked like that? I mean, I hope I'm wrong and Arizona can pull it off and they damn near did last night. But with how decisively Texas has played for good chunks of this postseason, I'm having a harder time believing they can botch this in some significant way.
