  1. Auburn debuted some new throwback-inspired uniforms yesterday vs Florida A&M.

These are meant to be based on the 1997 College World Series team's uniforms. But I'll be honest, they missed the mark badly. No placket and sleeve piping is one thing that I could excuse, but the front number 1) being present and 2) being all navy is my biggest gripe. The Tim Hudson uniforms in 1997 used traditional block numbers as well. Auburn wore this same design as a throwback in 2007-08 using the Copperplate numbers and the front number placement. Yesterday's uniforms are a bad combination of 1997, 2008, and the 2024 primary uniforms and it's driving me nuts.

Rumoring that Auburn may sign with Nike for apparel providers.  👀

    Unfounded rumors are fun.

I think it will happen - and have said so for years - but there's no credence to the "rumors" that are going around right now. Here are the facts of the entire situation if you desire to read into it.

Lending Tree Bowl is now the 68 Ventures Bowl. I feel like the stepbrothers had to rename it since the logo includes a friggin' boat. Granted this one is a battleship. It's also pretty strange that South Alabama is playing in their home stadium, and they just put South Alabama in both end zones instead of putting Eagles (Eastern Michigan) and Jaguars in the end zones, even if you use the same colors.

It's the USS Alabama, permanently parked in Mobile Bay, not too far from South's campus.

  4. Auburn officially revealed the new uniforms this week:

And here are my mockups of all three colorways.

I'm currently working on the detailed breakdown article that'll hopefully get posted Monday. There's a lot of historic inspiration that isn't entirely accurate and tiny details that will get missed here.

Thought this was a decent looking game. Has TUNA (North Alabama) officially changed their colors since they moved up to FCS?

A look at Mercer vs. North Alabama in the FCS Kickoff

    TUNA? lol It's just UNA.

They've always been purple and yellow/gold but clearly utilizing the yellow more with this set.

(I grew up in central-north Alabama and had a lot of friends that went to UNA)

Is this a cry for help? Trent Dilfer & Co. – blink twice if UA has your family tied up somewhere!

Dilfer designed these things himself lol. He said he was relieved when the players liked it.

  7. Under Armour canceled their deal with Cincinnati way back in 2020. They paid $10 million to end the deal early.  They had time.

BSN has been growing rapidly lately. They handle a ton of high schools and clearly looking to move up with colleges. I've heard that, at least by one account, they aren't great to work with and cut corners for even high schools, so who knows what this relationship will look like.

  8. In yet another Auburn Baseball uniform development, the Tigers debuted a new orange jersey this past weekend. They also sported new throwback hats in honor of Frank Thomas, who had a statue unveiled outside the ballpark on Saturday.

  9. Mentioned it previously, but Auburn has 3 new uniforms so far this year. I broke down all the details and the historic context of the designs on my site this week. There have been questions about an orange and white colorway, which I think are coming.

I feel like those could just be for recruiting visit pics. Seems weird they wouldn't put stripes on either helmet.

The helmets are still in the box. They aren't fully decaled yet.

They're actually happening. Word is the alternate helmets have been scheduled and scrapped multiple times due to production issues. The orange lids were supposed to happen last year but they apparently couldn't get the color to match well.

  11. Wanted to throw another tidbit into the SEC nicknames discussion.

I spoke to the former Auburn AD years ago about this very topic. One of the baseball players told me that they wanted to design a new jersey that had "Tigers" on the chest, but it was denied. The AD explained that Auburn was actively marketing the school name over the Tigers nickname, especially since Missouri was added to the conference. There was an intentional effort to differentiate from the other Tigers in the SEC.

That effort has been rather moot recently as the MBB and WBB teams both have worn "Tigers" jerseys. The baseball team still doesn't have one, much to their chagrin.
