If CBS does unveil a new graphics package for the Super Bowl, I expect to see something "shinier". For some years now, we've seen sports graphics become simpler and flatter. Compare FOX graphics from 15 years ago to this season and you'll see a monumental difference. However, NBC bucked the trend last year with their new package featuring gradients and shadowing galore. I believe that this will be the first in a trend back in the direction of fancier scorebugs. If CBS does make this change, then I think we will be seeing changes in that direction all throughout the world of sports.

YES. We're finally going back to where we need to be.

  2. I hate Fox’s flat scoreboard. The only thing I like about it is the abundance of team colors. Other than that, it’s bland and has no identity whatsoever. It’s also absolutely atrocious on the eyes when a green/purple team is playing since the scoreboard has no borders. I’m not saying the one they had before is any good, but this one is definitely worse. If FOX is gonna do something modern, then modernize the 2000s banners (preferably the 2006-2009 one).

And yeah, the Bears’ main problem is that their Navy is barely a blue at all. Wasn’t this way with Reebok.

Outside of the previously docmented changes. Arizona: now using bolder number font. Striping is still on the 20 yard line. Minnesota: Numbers bordered in Purple, striping moved from 20 to 25 yard line. New Orleans: Field looks new, all standard lines (Yard lines, Enzone, field numbers, and the 2 yard border) extremely bright white. With Logos, hash marks and yard marks  fainter. Detroit: Possibly using field "Patch" for Lions logo ("Bubbles") in the center of the field.

Saints had the incredibly bright white last year.

I absolutely loathe the cuts of modern uniforms. "Sleek" and "aerodynamic" can eat my ass. One of my favorite things about sports uniforms, football and basketball especially, was the baggy look to them. Nike's football templates in particular are godawful; not only do they make most offensive linemen look like lard-asses, but they've effectively ruined the concept of doing anything cool with the sleeves ever, because why bother when the jerseys are basically sleeveless?

Nike’s NBA jerseys are just whole ass. Garbage material and the shoulder stripes are cut off at the back on ALL jerseys. Why?

I commented a while ago, but I just thought of a new one:

The Expos should not return. Olympic Stadium is in shambles and I believe the nostalgia would wear off way too quickly and leave the team in the same situation it was in.

They could, y’know, build a new stadium? It’s not like they HAVE to play in the O.

  6. Now I hate to double post, but Sunday Night Football is the gold standard for what a score bug should be. No flat BS, it's fairly clean, and something to actually make it unique and stand out. I could take the fox score bug and place it over NFL on CBS and I wouldn't notice a difference, however if i took the 2014-2016 FoxBox and put it on Monday Night Football, something would definitely look wrong. A good graphics package should also stick with you instantly, you should be able to say "This game's on CBS!". The only reason why I can recognize this new FOX bug is because I will either become used to it, or I'll just say "that's the boring one". It shouldn't be like that but everyone's so obsessed with being simple and clean that building an identity and focusing on the little things is irrelevant nowadays.

Also, for reference, here's Sunday Night Football

Im not sure what your referring to about the Georgia dome field. Same conference championship logo that's been used since the 2010 season.

Usually the logo is painted as (CHAMPIONSHIP) with the NFC logo inside the football on the logo. But this year, they painted around the NFL shield so it looks like it says "NFL Championship". It looks bad.

On a different note, I hate the shield logo that the Jags use, it makes no sense. Just have the jaguar head or the full body jaguar as the mid-field logo, but a shield? Ridiculous.

The Jaguars no longer have a full body logo. Would be nice to see a new one, though.
