  1. "This is truly a dream come true for me and my family," said Barroway. "I am extraordinarily grateful for the opportunity of a lifetime and look forward to working and solidifying a strong partnership with the Club's current ownership group."

Umm...does this guy really know what he got himself into? And who calls owning the Phoenix Arizona Coyotes a "dream?"

In fairness, like all the decision making concerning the Coyotes, he probably got a Magic 8-ball and asked it if it was a good investment to buy the coyotes. The ball probably said "yes, definitely" and he went with it.

I shouldn't doubt the ability of the NHL to find an idiot owner, but I feel like this guy has to have bought in with the endgame in mind. He's just saying what's expected of him until the Glendale money runs out.

Keep in mind that he has a Tim Hortons down the hall from his office now.

  3. ^^^^^

The problem is no team can pull chrome off right.

The Bucs got close, if they went for a look similar to the Rutgers one I posted, more rustic and weathered, then I think their idea would have worked. The problem with their identity is they overdesigned it, like a Volkswagen, it's too clean and doesn't have enough soul.

If the Bucs' new uniforms are any kind of car, they're a Powell Homer.

  4. How the hell is it that one year after the NHL had to beg for someone to buy the team for $170M, now someone willingly steps forward to buy half the team for $150M???

Edit: Also, who's doing the assessment when a team sells for $170M, writes a big red $24M on the ledger book and increases in value to $305M despite no real hope of ever earning a profit in their current location?

  5. You can try to make it about business all you want but then those from QC and in the past Winnipeg shouldn't be making weekly post about how empty Atlanta/Phoenix/Miami are and saying their fans don't deserve a team. This sub is horribly cruel to the fans of those teams.

"Trolling an entire fanbase" has made its way to Reddit, apparently. By the same token, wouldn't it be "horribly cruel" to the hockey fans of Quebec City to say that they should never get a team because the Nordiques moved away and because a smallish Francophone city "doesn't grow the game" or "does nothing for the league"? Because people say that all the time without reproach, yet "you amount to nothing" is about as cruel to me as "you shouldn't have nice things." So what it comes down to, just as at that other place, is that you're a second-class hockey fan if your city doesn't have a team. Can't troll a fanbase if we say there is no fanbase.

  6. adding that the team will honor the 14 years remaining on its lease with Broward County.

Wow. 14 more years? How godsdamned long was the lease at inception? Why on earth would you commit to that if you're the Panthers - was there really a risk taht they'd be denied tenancy?

$$$$$$ Talks....Im sure a buyout can happen for the right price.

The county is actually looking for ways out of the lease. The Panthers could probably walk away at any time for free. They like the free money they're getting, though.

  7. the way the toronto raptors have embraced the poor grammar of their "We The North" slogan is embarrassing and exactly why i can't stand to watch basketball.

Our Constitution starts the same way

Yeah, but Jefferson also spelled it "happinefs" in the Declaration of Independence, so maybe let's not pay attention to them for 21st century grammar and spelling.

  8. You guys have to start identifying the hockey players.

Absolutely...been a problem throughout the thread. Hockey is not as popular as the three major sports. Soccer players...forget it.

    Hockey's plenty popular here though.

Still, I think the point should be taken. I follow hockey. I know who Pavel Datsyuk is. I know he wears 13 for the Red Wings. I still have no idea it's him if I see him in 54 or whatever without someone telling me.

  9. NHL will expand to 32 teams in the next coming years. The twos teams recieving teams will be Seattle and Quebec City. Both cities have arenas to play in and blatant rivalries. Seattle will start in the Pacific Division. Quebec City will start in the Atlantic Division, Detroit will move to the Central.

So then what the hell was the point of the Red Wings moving to the Eastern Conference?

They move to the East to cut down on travel costs, but then they move back to a conference where road games slated in California begin at 9:30-10:30pm Detroit local time. The hell?

I don't know if anyone's actually done the math, but it seems to me like divisional alignment is less important now that you play every team at least twice per season.
  10. I like the original orca uniforms/color scheme for the Canucks. I don't even care that the logo represents the ownership group. I even liked the gradient alt at the time (I'd have to see it on the ice to know how I feel about it now). The only era of uniforms I would put ahead of the red/blue/black orca are the current ones.
