  1. A bridge isn't needed but a larger western presence sure is. If some schools could join to essentially make it a western division, that would work. Sending your soccer team on a swing that takes them to Seattle, Eugene, and LA would make it more cost-effective per match than just heading out west for two in three days against UCLA and USC and likely have to make yet another trip out west for two, or maybe even just one, matches.

With BOTH football and basketball championships in Vegas now, it's inevitable that the Pac-12 will at least try to add 'em.

    Following that logic:

UAB to the SEC (baseball at Hoover). Georgia Tech and Georgia State are off to the SEC. USF is off to the SEC because the basketball tourney has been in Tampa.

Charlotte to the ACC and the Big South.

UNC Greensboro is headed to the ACC.

West Florida to the Fun Belt.

UNLV is going to be in the PAC-XX as well as the WCC, WAC, and the Mountain West. And maybe even the Big West if you wanna lump Henderson in with Vegas.

    TCU to the American.

    UNC Asheville to the SoCon.

Evansville is leaving the MVC for the OVC.

Boise State to the Big Sky.

SMU is headed back to CUSA.

    This all checks out.

In other news, the Pac-12 Football Media Day has been moved to Las Vegas.

If you can read between the lines, this bit of of understated news makes 'em look vigorous.

Just because they moved media day to Vegas, you think they're adding UNLV? It's more tied to the league having their football championship game in Allegiant.

  4. I had a soft spot for UAB since well before the program got axed. I'm about to give up on them until Mark Ingram is no longer the AD. Dilfer's hiring is one thing but that absolute :censored: show of a "search" is made even more hilariously bad when you realize he had since June to find a replacement.

  5. Crazy for an athletic department that almost went D3 due to financial impacts of a D1 department then almost went D2 (to the point of competing a year as a D2 independent and being accepted into the Gulf South) before ultimately deciding to keep D1 athletics. This was only a decade ago and now they're almost certainly adding football.

No surprise that this is where they land. After all, ESPN hasn't covered the USFL at all. Here's why.

ESPN doesn't cover you unless they broadcast you. It's not necessarily because they're partnering with the XFL but I'm sure that helped.

  7. Tennessee State being needed by the OVC doesn't mean jack. Tennessee State having ambitions of going to FBS is not new. The NCAA isn't going to give TSU a waiver like they gave Liberty. The MAC has already said no to central Tennessee, the Sun Belt might kick the tires as Tennessee State does bring a solid fan base with them (which the SBC values more than being in Nashville) but the most logical landing spot is CUSA.

Tennessee State seems to have embraced the "athletics are the front porch of the university" mentality. They were (and maybe still are) considering the SWAC, though I think the Jackson State/Southern Heritage Classic debacle soured that. They're considering jumping up to FBS (probably more so now after the aforementioned debacle). They've even moved beyond just the feasibility study and are pursuing funding to launch men's and women's hockey programs.
