Brian in Boston
The Arena Football League's expansion into Utah has officially been announced, with the team conducting a press conference on Sunday to confirm that the Ken Garff Automotive Group has purchased the franchise rights for a team to be based at the Delta Center beginning in 2006. As expected, former Arizona Rattlers coach Danny White will serve as the team's first Head Coach. Jason Jones is the President of Utah AFL.Less trumpeted has been the Arena Football League's plans for Asian expansion. Apparently, buoyed by the success of recent pre-season exhibition games between a team of Japanese All-Stars and af2's Louisville Fire and San Diego Riptide franchises, AFL leadership plans to launch a six-team, all-Japanese af2 league in Japan in time for the 2006 season. The best players culled from a full season of play by those six teams would then comprise the roster of an all-Japanese AFL expansion franchise in 2007. Discrim
af2 Japan, eh? it's so out there it just might work. I'd have chosen Germany for a league like this, but I guess the AFL doesn't wanna get on the NFL's bad side.
