The First Throwback?

I still wonder about that Sixers jersey for Darryl Dawkins.

His first year was the 1975-76 season and I don't remember this blue PHILA jersey.

What I remember was that 1971-72 were the home Eventy Ixers jerseys with the big S at home, and the red PHILA on the road.

From 1973 (the 9-73 team) until 1975, it was those psychadelic Sixers letters, then they went to these in 1977 or so:

Perhaps those PHILAs were a mid-season change? I remember in '78 or '79 they made the change from the blue road jersey to the red. That photo you posted of Darryl against (I think) Mike O'Koren was in 1978; they wore those jerseys for half a year with the block letters and the white side panels with the red stars. The first time they made the change to red was against the Celtics.
