RollWolfpack
Earlier today, the NC State board of trustees voted to name the court at historic Reynolds Coliseum "Kay Yow Court" in honor of coach Kay Yow. Yow has been at State for 32 seasons, and has led the team to much success including the 1998 Final Four. Yow just reached her 700th career win the other week against Florida State and tonight the Wolfpack defeated the #2 North Carolina Tar Heels at Reynold's for Yow's 702nd win.Not only has coach Yow been a fixture at NC State, she is a true inspiration to everyone on campus, in North Carolina, and in the ACC. Yow has beat cancer twice since 1987, and it has once again returned. It is currently in stage 4, and she has undergone extensive treatment.Along with her Hoops for Hope event, many ACC teams, including the UNC Tar Heels and the Duke Blue Devils, have been wearing pink shoelaces and coaches have been sporting ribbons and other symbols in support of Yow.After all my rambiling, Reynolds Coliseum is a historic venue that has been home to one of the ACC's more competitive programs, has hosted the Dixie Classic (old tournament featuring the tobacco road schools), and has been graced by legends of the Wolfpack and competitors. Mac the Knife
As the husband of a breast cancer survivor and someone who has a great deal of respect for Kay Yow on multiple fronts, I'm glad that NCSU is honoring her while she's still alive, as sadly in all likelihood she won't be much longer. To give it some perspective for those unaware, Kay Yow is to NC State women's basketball what Dean Smith was to the UNC men's game, though without nearly as much spotlight and hoopla. She'll be missed when she's gone, but hopefully that won't be for some time yet to come.
