Soyuz TMA-17 is scheduled to launch the Expedition 22 crew to the International Space Station on December 7, 2009. Once again, the mission patch was designed with elements from artwork submitted by children.

Crew:

Commander: Oleg Kotov

Flight Engineer 1: Timothy Creamer (NASA)

Flight Engineer 2: Soichi Noguchi (JAXA)

The artwork that served as inspiration for the patch can be seen here flanking the final design:

Would have been nice if they used Japanese characters for Noguchi.

But, why can't the stuff that American kids design be this good? Every time I see Lukas post kids' concepts, part of me dies a little.

Serious cognitive dissonance seeing "Creamer" next to an American flag.

Also dropped by to note that the title of this thread can be sung to the first few bars of the Soviet National Anthem.
