2013 ECHL All-Star Event Jerseys Unveiled

Skills Competition & All-Star Game jerseys pay tribute to Colorado's hockey history.

LOVELAND, Colo. - This evening, the Colorado Eagles of the ECHL unveiled the jerseys that will be used during the league's upcoming ECHL All-Star Week, presented by CCM. The 2013 ECHL All-Star Game, presented by University of Colorado Health, will be played on Wednesday, January 23 and a Skills Competition, presented by CCM and OtterBox, will take place on Tuesday, January 22; both events will occur at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colo.

The All-Star Game will feature the host Eagles taking on an All-Star team made up of players from each of the ECHL's other 22 teams. With the strong Colorado theme, it made sense for the jerseys to also pay homage to Colorado's rich hockey history. As such, the jerseys worn by both teams will include the main colors from the state's flag (red, blue and yellow) and are strikingly similar to the jerseys worn by the National Hockey League's former Colorado Rockies franchise, which played in Denver from 1976 through 1982 (before moving to New Jersey as the current day Devils). The ECHL's championship trophy, the Kelly Cup, was named after Patrick Kelly, who coached the Colorado Rockies in 1977-78.

Four total jerseys (all designed by Reebok Hockey) will be worn between the two events, two by the Eagles & two by the ECHL All-Stars. Replicas of each, except the All-Star team Skills event jerseys, will be available exclusively at the Eagles'holiday store in the Foothills Mall in Ft. Collins, Colo. through Dec. 30. After the new year, the aforementioned jerseys will be available online. Game-worn jerseys from both events will be available via auction from The MeiGray Group; details will be announced in January.

For the Skills Competition, the Eagles will wear a blue jersey with the word "Eagles" diagonally from the top left to bottom right, with the team's 10th anniversary patch on the right shoulder and the 2013 All-Star Skills logo on the left shoulder. The ECHL All-Stars will wear a white jersey with their respective team's crest on the front, the league's 25th anniversary logo on the right shoulder and the 2013 All-Star Skills logo on the left shoulder. Each jerseys are adorned with stars along the waistline and on the cuffs, as well as striped on the elbows -- all in state flag's colors of red, blue and yellow.

For the All-Star Game, the teams will wear nearly identical jerseys, with the main change being the crest on the front -- the Eagles will have their logo and the All-Stars will have the All-Star Game logo. The Eagles' shoulder logos will consist of their 10th anniversary logo on the right shoulder and the All-Star Game logo on the left shoulder. The All-Stars' jerseys will feaure their respective team logo on the right shoulder and ECHL's 25th anniversary logo on the left shoulder.

Why has everybody insisted on getting the Rockies' stripes wrong all of a sudden? The red and yellow stripes are equal size! The replicas had it right for the longest time, then they started shrinking the yellow for no good reason. The white jersey has them right, the blue does not.

Yes, I realize these are the ECHL All-Star Game jerseys and not Colorado Rockies jerseys, but clearly they're inspired by them, and share the same issues as the throwbacks do

I'll respect any opinion that you can defend.
