Reading, PA ? The Reading Royals announced that they will wear redesigned alternate third jerseys for the upcoming 2004-05 season. In previous years, the Royals have worn purple jerseys featuring a shield with an R in the middle and crossed hockey stick swords on the border. Fans have the ability to preorder the new alternate jersey now! Visit the Royals website at www.royalshockey.com.

Royals general manager Ray Delia said the change was mainly inspired by the fans, ?Our fans, through surveys and feedback at our merchandise and customer service booths, have told us that they would encourage and welcome a change in our alternate jerseys. We listened to those requests and decided to take action.?

The new jerseys feature the same basic pattern as the purple jerseys with a few alterations. First, the lion head logo replaces the shield logo as the jerseys front crest with the shield logo moving to the shoulders. Second, the color scheme will be predominately gray with white, purple, and black stripes. Finally, the new jerseys will feature a lace-up collar on both authentic and replica jerseys.

Royals director of merchandise Brian Hommel said this is not the first time this idea has been discussed, ?When the third jersey was in the design process back in 2002 we considered doing it in gray, but ultimately decided to use our primary team color. Currently, no professional hockey team has a predominantly gray jersey so we decided to give our fans something unique to Reading. The addition of the lace-up collar gives the jersey an old-time hockey look and adds to its aesthetic qualities.?

The new alternate jersey (shown below) is available for preorders by visiting www.royalshockey.com and clicking on the merchandise page. Delivery time for the jerseys is expected to be in mid-October.

The Reading Royals are entering their fourth season in Reading, Pennsylvania after relocating from Columbus, Ohio.
