tuffytoro
The NBA's "Jerry West" logo and MLB's "silhouetted batter" logo look very similar and have spawned a huge number of imitators among lesser sports leagues. As far as I've been able to determine, both the NBA and MLB logos debuted in 1969 (though I could be wrong).Does anyone know the story on these logos? Is one an imitation of the other? Were they somehow designed in conjunction with each other? It just seems odd that such prominent logos would come out at the same time and be so similar to one another. Thanks in advance for any help. CC97
All I know for certain was the MLB logo first appeared as the league's 100th anniversary logo in 1969. I have seen the NBA logo used as far back as 1972 though.
the_cynic
As long as they don't change them I'm fine with anything!
tuffytoro
I have seen the NBA logo used as far back as 1972 though. The NBA claims that it first used the logo on 8/1/69. I found this on the US Patent and Trademark site: Word Mark NBA Goods and Services IC 042.
