  1. Branching off of @crashcarson15's point, the market situation is compounded in baseball with the fact that there's 81 home games as opposed to 41 in hockey/basketball and 8 to 9 in football.  So, really the radius of pulling fans for home games is much smaller in baseball than on a NFL Sunday and as a result the fandom model makes a lot more sense.  You can get 50K at Dodger Stadium on a Tuesday.  That's not going to happen in Nashville.

I don't think the Dodgers have any memorial patches on the right sleeve this year. Last year they did but not this year.  Either the All Star Patch or the Dodger Stadium patch would have looked great...not sure why they went with the blank sleeve.

I don't know if that's another supply chain thing but they really should have a Tommy Davis memorial in addition to the other two options that were mentioned.

  3. *Kershaw misses playoffs due to injury

*Kershaw doesn’t even pick up a baseball until a couple months ago to avoid TJ

*Kershaw unable to build up due to lockout shortened Spring Training

*Kershaw fully happy being pulled from perfect game bid to avoid possible injury

    *Hot take artists commence whining

  4. Everything with the Laker organization has been a product of Buss Family (biological and honorary) nepotism.  What's made things worse now is that after Jeanne had her brothers whacked and after Magic abandoned ship that she's created such an inner circle around the operation that the decision makers are immune to consequences.  So, when you have Jeanne, Pelinka (Kobe's living proxy), and the two Rambi at the helm, with Pelinka deferring to LeBron/Rich Paul, the head coach is the only person left who can be a ceremonial scapegoat.  The Athletic had a piece today that absolutely shredded the team for its treatment of Vogel and pointed out that going forward there's no way that any known name would agree to join that train wreck unless they actually decide to pay market value for the position and until they give the coach more team management control (the article pointed out that the Lakers would constantly have Rambis and Pelinka sitting in on film sessions and voicing opinions that should be in the coach's hands).

Don't rule out Navy (or "Heritage" as they call it)...they've hinted at using that as an alt color since unveiling the current set

I think it's petty obvious looking at the whole process that if they go navy, they're going navy and white for the alt.  That's where they were aiming until fan blowback made them go royal and "sol."

Yes. Correct. The Jake Plummer unis overthought the simplicity of the brand. When you use those colors in that way with that Generic Helmet from Every Sporting Goods Store in the Country helmet it's not sharp like the Raiders or Giants, it's just boring. It's a nothing statement. You gotta do something from the neck down because the helmet isn't adding any punch on its own, but the incredibly 2004 uniforms they've been wearing since 2005 are the opposite of that.

A variation of this concept has been done a million times, but it's just too obvious. Do this, never change again.

With that helmet, I think they have two options.  If they go with this, the helmet's fine.  If they go modern again, Bidwell needs to drop the act and update the facemask.  The glaring issue (amongst many) with the current look is that the throwback-style helmet does not belong with the piped up mid-aughts aesthetic.

  6. It's like the designer of the Lakers' association is the same guy who did the Commanders and didn't realize that the NBA doesn't have the "color must be somewhere to get an alt" rule.

It's also amazing that as much outcry as there was about the first attempt that they just decided to double down on what made it awful.

  7. Thoughts on the Rams rally:

*Actually had a good sized crowd

*Politicians needs to stop thinking they're cool

*Someone needs to strangle the DJ with the air horn sound effect

*Stan not grabbing his crotch in a shoutout to St. Louis is an egregious oversight

*McVay's S-bomb went unbleeped on the local ABC station

*Stafford is hammered as hell (unclear if this will affect his Hall of Fame credentials)

*Shirtless Aaron Donald makes mortals tremble.  Also, Donald apologized for being drunk but clearly holds his liquor better than Stafford.

*McVay is really forcing the running it back issue.  Going to be a bit more awkward if he does bolt for the studio

    *Von Miller is REALLY drunk

    *Woods is markedly less drunk.

*The fake Halas trophy is just awkwardly taking up space on the podium

*Good on Kupp to pull rank and defer to Whit.

*Whit's shirt with dorky high school Kupp is phenomenal

*Kupp with the Mick Foley cheap pop for the Kobe reference

Hold up-- can we see the TD/INT line for every other QB in the Hall? I knew Broadway Joe threw a bunch of INTs over his career, but that many more than TDs? That is nuts.

Also, Still L.O.L. @ the whole "Matt Stafford is a HOFer" line. The only reason this even came up is because the Rams won the SB. They lose, and no one's bringing that point up. You want proof? Go back and look through the last couple weeks' worth of posts and see what folk been saying about his (and for that matter the Rams') play. But since SUPERB OWL and all that, now you wanna even try to tell me dude belongs on the hall? Miss me with that one. (And I say this as a guy who genuinely likes the guy and loved him as a competitor in Detroit.)
