So the survey shows that the fans overwhelming choice is the white helmet with black stripes, but the desired all white snow cat look isn't possible in 2022 from what options we know the teams has.

Keep in mind the NFL states that the alternate shell can only be paired with an alternate jersey, throwback or color rush. They currently to my knowledge do not have a throwback ready and available to go with "original option" have no alternate white jersey. 

The only way the Bengals complete the "Snow cat" look is if the also announce a new alternate white jersey. Their only option with any alternate shell in 2022 is it  with the orange alt jersey and a black and white helmet with that makes very little sense.

Also with how they list them are they saying the options are a black helmet with white stripes, and a white helmet with orange stripes?

Yes and no. They will have to wear them with those this season. It is possible they have some other alternate planned but given the turn around time the NFL requires is preventing them from having the jersey in 2022. 

It is very possible they may introduce a new alternate that works really well with this helmet in 2023 or 2024. I know what you will probably say... "then why not wait and introduce the entire thing when the uniform is ready?"

Money is the answer... these alternate helmets will sell be they mini, replica or authentic. They are not about to waste 1 or 2 seasons worth of merchandise revenue waiting on the uniforms if in fact they're even planning uniforms.

I understand what you are saying but not having balance might be what some teams are looking to do as a different/alternate look.

Many of the younger players and as a result the younger fans seem to really like mono looks. Some teams may be embracing that as an alternate look. I would prefer that they have the option to present it on occasion as an alternate look over not having the option and perhaps making it the permanent change.

I love classic timeless traditional looks but then again I'm not young.  I think these mono looks (ice/white out, black out, etc.) are just the current trendy fad. 10 years from now people will look back and be able to identify this era just from the amount of mono uniform combos seen.

Prior to 1996 there wasn't really any mono looks aside from mono white.

Denver's current set was introduced then and they only wore the all blue that year in the preseason. Mono colored combos really were not seen again until the 2000's There were a few teams with mono color options in the 30's and 50's but it was the exception not the norm. Now there are only 4 teams that don't have a mono colored option (Raiders, Cowboys, 49ers, and Giants). The only reason the 49ers don't is b/c the ditched the all blacks.

Here are the 5 known alt helmet shells that have been announced.

15 teams were reported to have alt shells in 2022. Here is my guess on the other 10 taking into account that the shell seems to have to be paired with an alternate uniform and not the standard home or away jersey. As well as taking into account some of the teams who have had their names come up.

The Bengals long talked about white helmets won't be an option unless they also have an alternate white jersey. Not sure if the League would let them bring back the previous color rush jersey. If not I am guessing inverted shell...

Red for Bills that will likely get paired with throwbacks in 2023.

This would mean 6 black, 3 red, 2 white, 2 light blue, 1 navy, and 1 orange.

Odds are it was probably a incomplete photoshop job and whomever did it wasn't thinking that the C needed replaced when they replaced the bolt logo with the ram head.

Trying to sight a retail hat as evidence of a team introducing a black uniform is a stretch to say the very least.

As far as the pairing they may not have had a choice. This might be further proof that the alternate helmet has to be paired with an alternate jersey and not either of the primary options.

Look at the Chargers, for instance. Navy and royal aren’t anywhere on their home or away uniform, yet both of these colors are featured as “Color Rush” looks.

Color Rush has a different set of rules but there are limitation for each team based on their history. Teams can use any design or color from its history and mix and match as they see fit. Current design with historic colors (This is what the Chargers have with both their color rush options)

Historic design with current colors (This is what the Broncos have)

Current design with different color from the current primary options (This is what the Seahawks have with the lime)

A team cannot take a color not in their current set or part of their history and make a uniform with it and call it color rush. So the Rams never had black in their color pallet and as such cannot to my knowledge introduce a black alt of any kind no matter what they label it as. The would need to add black someplace into their existing color pallet to  be  able to have black alts.

There are a decent number of teams that never had black as an option in their color pallet either currently or historically and as such cannot have black alts without adding black someplace in their current options. These 13 teams have no current or historic use of black.

Not exactly what the rule is. Every team in their official style guide that is submitted to the league has their accepted colors listed. Unless a color has a specific note that it is to only be used for a certain aspect of the team's identity then any color on the list can be used for any uniform elements be they jersey, pants, helmet or socks. While obviously most of these colors can be found on some aspect of the jersey it isn't the fact that they are on the jersey as to why they can be used. Best example I can give on this is the Ravens. As they list gold which is part of the logo's outline and the letter B on the logo. Since it is listed and not noted to have a specific use only that is how they were able to have the gold pants.

Yellow on the other hand states it is to only be used for the Maryland flag art. The team actually has 2 shades of Purple with one specifically for media material (print or screen use) and helmet decal only.

As for the Niners black is listed in their color pallet with no restrictions which is why it was an accepted option for an alternate jersey even though it isn't used on either the standard home or away jersey.

Yes. The organization is distancing themselves visually from any tie back to the previous name now that they have officially adopted a new one.  Aside from the standard dark and light they only have the black alts now.

May not be that noticeable since color and design are same but they utilize a metallic red on the decal for the color rush and not the standard red.

Yes this policy change by the NFL is to allow for a different color shell to be designated to one specific option which appears to be either alt, throwback or color rush. The wording strongly hints that the alternate helmet cannot be paired with the primary dark or light.

Even when only one shell was the only option teams were allowed and did change up decals and facemasks and can still do so. Changing the look by changing the decals and or facemask is not considered a new helmet by the league since it uses the same shell.

Jets used same white shell but changed facemask and decals for previous color rush

Cardinals and Broncos changed the decals for their color rush

Browns changed decals and facemask for their anniversary throwbacks

Bears and Bills changed decals and at times facemask for their throwbacks.

Dolphins changed decals and facemask for their throwbacks

Giants changed decals and facemask for their color rush

Packers and Lions remove decals for their throwback

Chiefs change facemasks to grey and call it a throwback 

You all get the point. If it is the same shell as the normal even if they change the look by altering the decals and/or facemask it isn't considered an alternate helmet. Alternate look, yes but not alternate helmet.

Teams may try to work around the alternate helmet being only for alt, throwback or color rush by creating a "mono" look and labeling it as color rush.

hmmmm... well seeing this list here are my thoughts...

Cardinals - most likely black

Panthers - Carolina blue, but I guess white or black is possible

Bears - most intriguing one on the list... white, orange or some type of faux leather are the only real options. Faux leather would not be brown likely but just a texture on the current throwback helmet design. They are still locked into the current throwback and orange alt for a few more years.

Texans - white or red, most likely red. I would not be surprised to see red pants added to create an all "battle red" look

Saints - black, white or alternate shade of gold. I am honestly unsure which way they go. My thoughts are white or alternate shade of gold.

Bengals - listed on the site but you didn't mention them. Most likely will be white, but I guess a 70's era orange throwback is possible especially if it is true the alt helmets have to be paired with an alt, throwback or color rush.

You stated the Jets but I do not see them listed as having a 2022 alt helmet on that site. If it happens based on the current set and if the pairing assumptions are accurate this would likely be black if it happens.

That is 10 confirmed teams with 5 actually revealed. Who will be the remaining 5?

For 2022 Alternate helmets, retailers are planning for Cardinals, Panthers, Bears, Texans, Saints, Eagles, and maybe Jets helmets to drop this summer. 

2023 was hinted for a Seahawks throwback but never confirmed. As for 2022, I did list the Eagles as it was already announced and confirmed to be black for 2022, but changing to Kelly green for throwbacks next year.

Curious as to your source for retailers planning for Cardinals, Panthers, Bears, Texans, Saints and possibly Jets.

It was reports a while back 15 teams made their intention known of using an alternate helmet this season.

Currently announced for 2022:
1. Commanders - Alt black helmet for alt black uniform

2. Eagles - Alt black helmet for alt black uniform

3. Falcons - Alt red helmet for throwback

4. Patriots - Alt white for throwback

That means there are 11 we don't know about for 2022. We can speculate but no others have been officially confirmed yet. Here are my guesses for the remaining  teams in 2022:

5. Bengals - White for "White out" look *

6. Bills - red will use with color rush in 2022 but likely change to use with 90's era throwback in 2023

7. Browns - White to pair with throwback (unsure if will go with faux leather look)

8. Cardinals - black to pair with color rush

9. Chargers - either navy or royal to pair with one of the 2 color rush options. Navy the most likely

10. Colts - blue to pair with throwback

11. Cowboys - white to pair with color rush (may be likely to introduce actual throwback in 2023)

12. Jets - black to pair with alt (but may change alt shell in 2023 to white for 60's era throwback)

13. Panthers - Blue to pair with alt

14. Seahawks - Lime to pair with alt (likely to change alt shell to silver and introduce throwback in 2023)

15. Titans - white for "white out" look (Likely will introduce Oiler throwbacks in 2023) *

* Now the way the policy was announced it seems this alternate shell has to be designated for use with alternate, throwback or color rush. Currently the Bengals and Titans whites are their standard light so I'm not sure if they can use alternate helmet shells with them. I am making the assumption they can.

Known 2022 plus additions/ changes for 2023 confirmed:

1. Buccaneers - White for throwbacks

2.  Commanders - Alt black helmet for alt black uniform

3. Eagles - Kelly green for throwbacks

1. Broncos - royal for orange crush throwback

2. Steelers - yellow for 40's or 50's throwbacks (2022 is the 5th year of the current throwback so they could change in 2023)

Chargers can't replace one or both of their 2 color rush options until the 2025 season.

Remember any combos posted during the course of this thread prior to the game taking place or posted prior to any official announcement by the team are an assumption and will be updated as needed. Please give me at least 24 hours from the completion of the game or a uniform announcement to make any corrections as I am normally not at a computer to make changes during the game itself and I do have other things going on.

At this point all signs are pointing to no mix and matching. They appear to be locked into the 3 total mono looks.

So here is the thing... Nike will make their pitch and try and get teams to buy into whatever concepts/innovations or whatever else they want to call things, but ultimately the team is the client and has the final say.

Case in point, Nike pushed on the Bucs and the Browns on the previous sets and the teams caved and we got Alarm clock numbers, contrast stitching, and names down the pants... then in the redesigns the teams put their foot down and said we want traditional uniforms and got them.

The Chargers and Patriots in their redesigns said they wanted more traditional from the start and got them.

The Jets, Titans, Falcons and the Rams let Nike have control like the Browns and Bucs did previously and we see the results.

Looks like Washington didn't learn from the Bucs, Browns, Pats and Chargers, and went the way of the Jets, Titans, Rams and Falcons.

Final call is from the team, not Nike, so put the blame on the teams and not Nike really. Nike will only do what the team will allow.

Not too surprised by the Packers choice. Keep in mind the wheels were set in motion for this long before the NFL made the decision to allow an alt helmet again.

This green over green look they chose was worn in 1950 with plain yellow helmets although they were leather then.

It was also worn in 1953 with pale gold hardshell helmets.

So the choice was likely made to go with these over the 30's as those were worn with gold/green leather and not a yellow helmet ever.

My guess is since they wore the combo in 1950 with a plain yellow they felt it was a truer look than wearing a 30's look which at the time the decision was made would only have had the yellow option instead of gold/green.

Down the road now with these we could see them with gold helmets or yellow faux leather and in 5 years we may get the 30's look. Time will tell.

Based on the leak I made what we may see. The back shows that it doesn't have the outside tag on the collar. The numbers are the same style as the blue and bone but appear to be flat color, no gradients nor internal piping. I did include the front patch and internal collar tag which may not be there. Again this is just a guess on all this based on what was leaked. I have seen and know as much as all of you on this one.

Here is what is may look like with blue pants and no patch on the front.

The Article stated the following

 So from that it appears you are correct and a different helmet cannot be used with the primary home and away looks. I will say though that just b/c the article wrote that we are unsure what the official policy sent to the the teams stated.
