  1. We dont have the infrastructure (proper sized football specific stadiums) to host a World Cup. We can host the 2015 Womens World Cup because of the size of the tournament. Most games are played in Toronto, Vancouver and Edmonton. A World Cup should showcase the entire country not just pockets. I would love to see it here but doubt it for 1

2018 or 2022. The CSA is planning on bidding for the 2026 World Cup. That annoucement was made in February. They better start building football specific stadiums with 40,000+ capacity now even to be looked at.

Actually, for some strange reason, the woman's world cup is not going to have games in Toronto. It will be Montreal, Edmonton, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Ottawa and, Moncton.

I also feel Canada could easily host a world cup. Yes, there would be some serious work needed but between 2 venues in Montreal and Toronto and all the new CFL stadiums being built I think we'd be covered. Remember, all the stadiums used in the 1994 world cup in the USA were all "pointy ball" football stadiums.

  2. Seems like it's got steam again so here's my 2 cents:

Toronto FC: Went to a game in season 1 and fell in love with the atmosphere. Since season 2 I've been a half-season ticket holder (The second my mortgage is paid off that's turning into full season seats). TFC is also my local team. Honestly, if Toronto lost all their sports teams except 1 this would be the one I'd like to see stay. Before TFC came around I followed MLS and if I had to say I was a fan of a team I'd say it was the Galaxy.

Spurs: Sticking with soccer, I'm a fan of Spurs. The reason this happened is that (although I have been a fan of soccer as long as I can remember) I didn't start following the EPL until 2010. The reason I started following Spurs was because one of my all time faves, Rafael Van der Vaart, had just transferred there. I never stopped following Spurs.

PSV Eindhoven: Simply put, I have a lot of family in Eindhoven. It's kind of funny though, my grandpa's brother is a massive supporter of PEC Zwolle. He's a huge part of the supporter's culture and always send me merch from the club. So if you look in my closet with all the t-shirts, scarves and various merch you'd think i'm a fan of that club.

Toronto Rock: Besides the whole "local team" thing, my uncle's buddy, Jim Veltman played for the Rock for years. It was Jim who got me into the sport and I fell in love with box lacrosse. In a fun turn of events, the team started using my company's services about 3 years ago and, I am their account rep.

Toronto Blue Jays, Toronto Raptors, Toronto Argos: The local teams.

Buffalo Bills: I grew up on the CFL. My dad was on the practice roster for the Argos in 1984/1985 so he always wanted me to watch the CFL. So my first real taste of NFL football came when Doug Flutie left the CFL for the Bills. Being the massive Argos fan that I was, I followed with interest. Finally, about 5/6 years I went to my first game in Buffalo and haven't skipped my yearly trip down since.

Brampton Beast (CeHL) and Brampton A's (NBL): Both are my hometown teams, both are in their first season. Both will fold or re-locate. I've been to 1 Beast game and 2 A's games. The crowds are small and i'm convinced that Brampton just doesn't care for minor league sports.

  3. Game Issue Sabres Slug home jersey: 25$

Mid Level(I dunno NFL title) Fitzpatrick NIke blue jersey: 20$

Marlies Home and Away Jerseys (replicas): 25 each for 50$

All of the above were purchased at their respective team stores (Sabres store, Bills store, and Real Sports respectively)

Just have to wait for the deals, and you can get the real thing for dirt cheap, and even better(in the case of my slug) than you can get in stores.

To be fair, all of these were purchased after the player had left, or they stopped using these jerseys, but to me doesn't matter.

Yeah I picked up the blue buffaslug on saturday at my local hockey shop. $20 on the clearance rack.

I figured the price was right and I can wear it as a shinny jersey.

  4. I've seen an insane amount of pictures today on FB and Twitter that just leave me shaking my head and I don't have the heart to tell people either. It really is a shame.

Are the people who buy this stuff typically under the impression that it's legit? Given how much of it you see around, I'm guessing that many if not most of the people who buy this stuff must think they just scored a really good deal on a legit jersey as opposed to having knowingly bought a bootleg.

I think so. 2 of my closest friends got knock off winter classic jerseys for christmas. They are clearly fakes and both of these buddies were bragging to me asking if I wanted to know who their "hook up is".

I just took the info and threw it out. I didn't have the heart to tell them, they were so excited.

  5. Is knowingly purchasing counterfeit materials illegal? I don't see how you don't see an issue with IP theft, loogodude. You're cheating people out of literally millions of dollars - how the hell can you compare that to speeding? You wouldn't sit there and say what Bernie Madoff did was just as bad as going 7 mph over the speed limit, would you...?

    Forget it man.

I simple voiced my 2 cents on it and they jumped all over it. Ice Cap spent pages trying to make the point.

Some people just don't see eye to eye.

And before anyone jumps all over me... You are entitled to your opinion. As am I. You are no less of a person for thinking what you do.

  6. #1- If something is illegal, it's illegal what more is there to say? If you are ok with that, fine, but don't try to save face by saying something like "everyone does something illegal from time to time".

Why can't I do both? I'm fine with the fact that it's illegal, and I'm pointing out that everyone - even those who make a big deal out of the illegality - breaks the law now and then. It's possible to do both.

You can do it. It's a free country and you are entitled to your voice.

All I'm saying is 2 wrongs don't make a right. I was speeding into work this morning (to go back to that example) and it didn't make it right, but I didn't try to justify it by saying "yeah well logodude90 buys illegal counterfeit jerseys!". If I got pulled over by a cop, or even called out by a co-worker who may have seen it i'd own up to it and say "yeah I was running behind so I wanted to make up time.". I'd accept my fine OR accept the criticism and not try to say "well someone else did something wrong, somewhere."

It's called being accountable for your own actions.

  7. I hadn't even bothered with this thread until today.

I've read every page now (it's a slow day at work, lol) and frankly, I don't get any of it.

#2- I don't know about you guys but I bought the 1st version of the Leafs edge jersey (no name or number) for $40 at National Sports. Yes, it's an old style so it was cheap. But that was still legal and legitimate. So buy something old (that a sports store is trying to clear out) if you don't want to pay that money. To me that solves the old "but I want to wear it while playing" excuse.

i agree 100% with you. I save money by buying old/traded/retired/released player jerseys. I dont care if the guy isnt on the team anymore. If I like the player or team, Ill wear it. Most of the people will think you bought while the guy was still on the team anyways.

As long as there are no mustard stains, you're good to go! :)

  9. The Sabres continue to bastardize the Bandits existence in HSBC Arena by FINALLY having a banner for the retired #43 on a microscopic, unironed bed sheet. Sorry, no picture. Didn't have a strong enough lens.

MLSE does this to the Rock as well.

We have HUGE banners for the "honoured" numbers with a life size picture of the player, yet in one corner.....there's the 1 banner with the Rock's champion's cup wins.
