  1. None of the spammy ads are intentional, you should never ever see anything redirect or pop over content (with the exception of the floater at the bottom, which shouldn't ever take over any part of the screen that you'd be actively reading). I deal only with reputable ad networks who, unfortunately, can get taken advantage of by bad advertisers -- they try to weed them out as soon as they can but unless you report their problem ads to that url shared earlier in this thread there's really not much we can do about it. In the millions of ads served on this site every month, there's maybe a few hundred that are problems, overall that's a pretty damn good ratio but it can still annoying as hell when you're one of the unlucky ones to get hit with one. Sohiosportsfreak appears to be an exception, you're getting so many ads that you're unable to browse the site? My hunch is that the issue may lie on the end of your phone/browser/IP, perhaps you've got some sort of malware or adware installed? I'm not hearing about a similar issue from anyone else, if the ads were so bad that most users couldn't browse the site I'd be flooded with complaints. Ad Blockers, while possibly bandaiding the problem for you, are not cool. Running this site costs me over a thousand dollars every single month in server fees alone, the *only* way I'm recouping *any* of those costs is from the ads on the site. You running an ad blocker while browsing the site is similar to going into a store, reading all the magazines, and then grabbing one with you as you take off out the door. I doubt that you intentionally meant this but it's essentially what you're doing. Look into the possibility of adware/malware. The amount of invasive ads I've been pitched with a promise of "big big money!" over the years would surprise you, I've rejected every single one of them because I do not want this place to be like some of those other forums. The bad ad slots that legitimately sneak through (like the one that took over the entire border of the site in early November -- I was pitched that it would be a quick 1-2 second ad that appeared off to the sides, away from content then disappear... they were wrong), the mods will tell you how quick I was to kill off once we saw what it did. I have no tolerance for obtrusive ads, regardless of the offer that accompanies them.
  2. Thank you, a few things first, need to nail down whether the software even allows such a plan, also determining exactly what the cost would be.
  3. Thank you. I'm sending this to the ad company now
  4. Kinda defeats the purpose from my point of view
  5. Would some members consider paying an annual fee in exchange for an ad-free experience? Like the option you'd see on an app or something
  6. You should definitely not be seeing the Amazon spinning ad; this was not an advertisement that we put on the site, nor should you ever see any popup ads or redirects. Our old ad network was constantly getting hijacked (as you saw with those popups, etc.) so we bailed on them and signed up with these new guys. If you keep seeing these, screencap it and remember where you were on the site when it happened, then post it to here. The new ad network does add the floating ad on the bottom of the screen.
  7. Major League Baseball told me the National League would be wearing the white uniforms this year
  8. That's because the Knights didn't actually stop the Golden Knights from using the name, but it was an excuse the team went with anyways; they always wanted a two word nickname, "Black Knights" was the preferred choice.
  9. That dream seemed to die when Paul Beeston retired; an entirely new front office now, Mark Shapiro mentioned it wasn't as much of a priority to him.
  10. To those expressing frustration, I get it, from your perspective it seems like I'm intentionally ignoring or being rude. Of course it's not at all like that; I'm simply just buried under all this stuff... keep in mind that I'm just one person, I can get a few hundred messages a day (in between being a stay-at-home father of two young kids) from both readers and the actual teams/leagues themselves about updating or correcting the logos site, about making sure we cover a particular news item, and usually there's someone upset they were banned or suspended from these forums. If it's a slow news day I can get to maybe 10% of these each day? Things will get missed, often... I'm sorry that happens, I want to cover everything, I want to be as accurate and up-to-date as possible. Reality says otherwise and the reality is most days I'm exhausted by the end. I can only do so much, I can't afford to hire anyone. So if you're wondering, the best chance to get my attention these days is through a Twitter DM (@sportslogosnet); I tend to check that and interact there more often than anywhere else, if I'm terribly busy I will usually just focus on what interests me the most first - baseball, hockey will get priority because I personally enjoy baseball and hockey; if it's a slow day and I'm looking for stuff to do then I'll start looking for corrections of other things in my DMs. It could take days, weeks, months... I've had many try for years. I'm not happy that it happens like that, it makes me look bad, but I'm not sure what else to do.
  11. The NCAA had rules to allow their logos on our site; we had to follow them.
  12. I don't recall anyone ever asking for anything after a donation; there was one instance of a user making a large donation shortly after their account was banned but it didn't reverse the decision. Any perceived favouritism that may have occurred after a donation would have been completely unintentional/subconscious... but I'm sure it happened. That time feels like a hundred years ago now. I do agree with you though, I'd hate for that perception to return. Donations would be great, I'm not going to lie, but I don't think we're quite at the point (yet... could be within a year or so) where it's necessary to keep things up and running.
  13. The images alone were using up so much space it was costing me personally an extra $2,500 every year just to keep that feature. I had to kill it.
  14. It's in the breadcrumbs now up near the top, it's got a little picture of a house next to it.
  15. The header logo used to go back to the main site but I received many requests to have it point to the forum index instead. I'll try to wedge a link back to the main site in the breadcrumbs up top
  16. Apologies for the auto audio ads, I contacted the ad network and had them remove them and any future from my rotation. Unfortunately they just throw them in there without asking. If you guys ever see another ad like this appear anywhere on the site please message me, email or DM on Twitter is quickest way to get my attention.
  17. I've completed the board upgrade, hopefully this solves the issue many of you were having. If not, let us know and I'll contact the company who makes the forum software directly about it.
  18. They announced "Mo-Hawks" (with the hyphen) as the name they wanted in 1972 almost immediately after getting the team -- it was also the name (without the hyphen) of Kansas City's USHL team in the 60s. A month later they dropped that idea when the Black Hawks raised an eyebrow, KC said they would respect Chicago's wishes since they had supported the entry of their team into the NHL. Scouts wasn't announced as the replacement name for another year.
  19. There's simply too many to add! Unfortunately there's an (understandable) expectation that if there's even a small handful of Div II schools added that we must then have every single one on there, and then keep them as up to date as possible. Maintaining Div. 1 alone is a near impossible task. Obviously we'd love to have everything possible but there's only so much Luke_Groundrunner and I can do.
  20. Since September, but during the entirety of my time with the league I've never once stepped foot in the league offices -- needless to say I've little influence in matters such as this! Oh they're very aware of the boards and the site! I made sure that nothing related to the site would be effected (affected?) by my deal with the league. Business as usual here as far as I'm concerned.
  21. I think we'll end up turning it on for big events
  22. You can disable this feature in your account settings
