That rules. Social D was basically the soundtrack for my high school years. I may have to pick up that hat.

Be quick if you're not going to the game. I think only 50 of each product were being sold online.

His sister or a relative claims that this was not the one worn as Diego switched (switches?) it during HT.  Who really knows whether it's the exact one worn or or worn when that fist goal happened.

Sotheby's seems pretty certain that it's the right shirt. They've had an outside firm photomatch it to what he was wearing in the second half. Regardless, there's been a bid and the reserve has been met, so it's selling one way or the other.

  3. Yeah, I saw this earlier today. I feel like there had to have been more elegant ways to work the 3 into the B. It's like they started with the B on the left half, but then started with the 1 on the right half. Either start with both the B and the R or with both the 3 and the 1, not mixed up like this.

  4. I guess this is as good a place as any for this ...

Sotheby's is going to auction off the shirt in which Diego Maradona scored the "Hand of God" goal and the "Goal of the Century" later this month. It's expected to fetch at least £4 million ($5.22 million US), and could break the record for the most expensive piece of sports memorabilia ever. That currently belongs to a New York Yankees jersey worn by Babe Ruth somewhere between 1928 and 1930, which sold at auction for $5.64 million US in June 2019.

With 29 of the 32 spots set, it's time for focus on the World Cup draw on Friday. Here's how that'll work...

Each of the teams will be split into four pots based on the upcoming FIFA World Rankings, which are set to be released tomorrow (for this example, the current ranking is used). Each pot has eight teams, so they go like this:

Pot 1: Qatar, Belgium, Brazil, France, Argentina, England, Spain, Portugal

Pot 2: Denmark, Netherlands, Germany, Mexico, United States, Switzerland, Croatia, Uruguay

Pot 3: Senegal, Iran, Japan, Morocco, Serbia, Poland, South Korea, Canada

Pot 4: Tunisia, Cameroon, Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, Ghana, UEFA Playoff Route A winner (Wales/Scotland/Ukraine), Intercontinental Playoff A winner (Peru vs. UAE/Australia winner), Intercontinental Playoff B winner (Costa Rica vs. New Zealand)

You sure about this? There was a lot of talk in Canada about we needed to beat Panama tonight to get into Pot 3, and that didn't happen. The current pots according to SI.com have Tunisia in Pot 3 and Canada in Pot 4.

  6. It's that time of the year again — when credible leaks of next season's kits from the big soccer leagues in Europe start to emerge. Let's kick things off with Arsenal, shall we? Some credible-looking photos of their 2022-23 kits have emerged online recently:

The home kit harkens back to 1995-96, while the away kit has an all-over tonal pattern of "AFC" in 3D letters. The third is light pink with what appears to be navy blue trim, and a pattern of pips from the "Victoria Concordia Crescit" crests used from 1949 to 2002.

is this an official alternate jersey?

If so, what are the rules for alternate jerseys in the NHL?  Is there a 3 year minimum or whatever they have to have these and wear them at least 12 games a year?

Or is just a one off jersey for this season?

    From the mothership's writeup:

    Quote

Note that this is *not* a “one-off” uniform, though the story behind it and its non-traditional design does give it that impression. Officially, this is classified as an alternate uniform (or “Third Uniform,” as the NHL refers to them); per league rules, an alternate uniform such as this must be kept for three seasons and worn during at least four games per season.

Really surprised we haven't had any massive World Cup leaks for the US yet. We're 2.5 months away from the unveil. Maybe with qualifying (hopefully) locked up this weekend something might come soon besides the colorguides.

I keep hearing that, since the World Cup is in November-December this year, we may not get most of the kits until much later. Footy Headlines has been saying we'll see Puma home kits in May, Puma away kits in August, and all Nike and Adidas kits in September.

The entire English Premier League is missing from the site.

    20. Why are there no Premier League logos on SportsLogos.net?

    • To make a long story short, the site was threatened with legal action by the Premier League several years ago. Their logos have not been on the site since.

Might the Senators be introducing a new wordmark logo for their 30th anniversary?

This hurts my eyes every time I look at it. I think it's because of the thick white inline. If it was thinner or gone completely, I think it would be better. I find the version they went with easier to look at on a red or black background, but on white, it's just so jarring.

And would it have killed them to fill in the circle that represents the clock on the Peace Tower in gold, and/or the spire above it black? Those are very fine details that could be hard to reproduce at a small scale.
