  1. True but the Suns don't own the arena, the city does. And I highly doubt the city couldn't use another 40 or so dates filled up with events bringing in revenue to both them directly at the arena and via increased tax revenue at establishments around the arena. I mean hell just looking at February, they only have events filling 9 days out of 28 this month. Sure seems like a few hockey games thrown in their wouldn't hurt their bottom line. And as for Ice Caps' comments regarding competing against the Suns for advertising money and ticket sales. With ad sales aren't they already competing with each other since they share the market? 18 miles isn't going to change that dynamic. As for ticket sales, I think you're making a false assumption that buyers of basketball tickets and hockey tickets have a large overlap. They didn't seem to negatively impact each other last time they shared what was then America West Arena.
  2. Which frankly was still better than what they've got now. I'm starting to wonder if that's not the only way to save NHL hockey in Phoenix, send them back downtown. If the Islanders can play at Barclay's Center there's no reason the Coyotes can't do the same. Particularly when it would solve one of the franchise's worst problems with the location of Glendale. Don't have me re-hash the reasons why the owner of an arena wouldn't be so interested in a hockey team (especially when they already house a basketball team). Please do actually. I'd be interested why the owner of the US Airways Arena (the city of Phoenix) wouldn't want another tenant in their venue.

  4. So if Phoenix finally goes bye bye who is the next team that steps into their shoes as the punching bag and butt of jokes?
  5. Glendale mayor just went on the radio. He's willing to keep the Coyotes in Glendale, "but not on the backs of the taxpayers" and he also thinks it'll take a miracle to keep them in Glendale. He's also not going to entertain the current lease deal with anyone beyond tonight, he flat out said it was a bad deal. Says the team needs to support itself, not the city. I like this guy.
  6. Well we can stick a fork in Jamison and likely the "Mystery Group." One of Jamison's lawyers contacted the city of Glendale about an extension of the lease terms and the new mayor had this as a response, "Obviously, we're not going to do that." Bless his sane heart. http://www.cbssports...glendale-denied
  7. Well FS Arizona is reporting that the "mystery group" needs the current super sweetheart deal. If the council doesn't extend to them Jamison's deal they won't be able to close either. So that bodes very well for this group also failing. http://www.foxsportsarizona.com/01/30/13/Jamison-unlikely-to-meet-deadline-for-Co/landing_coyotes.html?blockID=856841&feedID=3702
  8. I clarified it. Never meant the new "mystery group", I was talking about the new council.
  9. I swear to God if that group doesn't speak French.... I wouldn't worry too much. Reading that article, it looks like the new "mystery group" needs a deal similar to the one Jamison was given (ie: a gifthorse) and they need it in the next week or 2 at the most. Neither will happen. The new council has already said they want a deal far more favorable to the city and they're not going to rush this along and make a mistake like the last group of morons that ran that city. We may still be on course for the end of the Coyotes after this season.
  10. Hopefully they won't. This new council seems like they have half a clue unlike their predecessors.
  11. I bet a quarter of the people there didn't even know what team he was wearing As much as I think the Coyotes being placed in Phoenix was a bad idea, that guy is out of line and exhibiting very poor form. Not unlike this scuzbag who watched the Kings play the Wizards in DC the other night. I'm all for being happy that you're possibly getting a team. But going to the games of that team before it's finalized and while they're still playing in their current city just reeks of douchebaggery and dancing on other people's sorrow (more so in the Kings case since they are a great fan base that has done all that was asked of them and still may get the shaft). But even for the 'Yotes it's still pretty classless even if not as blatant or solid as the Kings/Sonics thing is currently. And it could be even worse later this week if Jamison falls through.
  12. Then the team won't be viable. A massive and ongoing public subsidy is the only thing that could keep the Coyotes out of the red. Which is why I said not to worry. The new council knows the city keeping the team is a bigger money loser than dumping them. So if it comes down to it they'll use their mandate (having all been voted in as gravy train opponents) and let the team go.
  13. I don't think Glendale's new leaders care so much if Reinsforf comes in. Sure they're willing to draft a new deal, but it looks like the gravy train as we knew it is over. It'll have to be a deal that makes financial sense for the city. Which is impossible for them to do and placate any ownership group, even Ice Edge. Remember this is the city council who buys the premise that the city would lose less money without the Coyotes than with them. I can see this council, unlike the last one, being ok with the team leaving town. The end may be near. It won't be quick, but it'll happen.
  14. Not with Jamison it won't. If he cannot close under these ridiculously favorable terms he won't jave a chamce in hell under whatever modified terms the new council concocts.
  15. For what it's worth Jamison is claiming he'll complete the sale by Wed or Thursday of this week. But he's not sure exactly when. Here's hoping his watch is still set to Pacific time coming from the Bay Area and he files an hour late. http://www.azcentral.com/insiders/westsideinsider/2013/01/28/phoenix-coyotes-announcment-due-this-week-prosective-owner-says/
  16. Don't think so. The new mayor told Jamison directly when they spoke the other day that they're not going to offer an extension. He either finishes it by 23:59:59 (MST) on Thursday... or it's over under these current terms. And the next ones, if there are any, won't be nearly as generous. Which will kill Jamison's bid since he can't even get this done with these ridiculously generous terms.
  17. And that's the announced attendance, always the rosiest of pictures. 6 days...
  18. 8,355 was the announced attendance? Wow for the second game of the season that's pretty pitiful. Even for the Coyotes. Really showing Jamison he should complete that deal aren't they.
  19. Now that Seattle is back in play, thereby giving Bettman another US market to fall back on, the odds of the Coyotes ending up in Quebec probably just dropped by an order of magnitude. Depends on if there's a willing ownership group there. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Hansen willing? Or did he just want a team to move into his new arena?
