Merrimack and Sacred Heart are joining the MAAC next season.

Staying close to the conference's roots by adding two more Catholic colleges...and the little town of Fairfield, Connecticut's big rivalry is now a conference battle.

Only questions are, where do they go for football and who is the NEC gonna pick up to make up for losing them?

Football wise, they'll probably stay in the NEC just to keep continuity within the conference in that sense. It's not above the NEC to have associate members for football (Duquesne comes to mind). If not, then there aren't many options for either school outside of the Big South-OVC Alliance.

As for the who the NEC picks up? I'm looking at New Haven.

Forgive me if my math is wrong, but are the marlins only playing 161 games this year? If so, how? I thought MLB was bending over backwards to ensure everyone played 162, especially if potential playoff seeding was at stake.

Miami's game with the Mets on Thursday got suspended in the Top of the 9th with the Marlins up 2-1.  This game would be finished on Monday only if it was needed to settle playoff position... well, the Marlins are in.

If Arizona wins and Miami loses today, then the suspended game is finished up tomorrow to determine the 5th and 6th seeds. If Arizona loses or Miami wins, the suspended game isn't played and under rule 7.02 (b)(4)(A), the game then is considered complete and it reverts back to the last finished inning (the 8th) with the Mets up 1-0.

  3. Man, last week was a dud.

San Francisco (Last week was a fluke for the Giants)

Atlanta (Starting to buy into the Falcons here)

LA Chargers (If there's one team that can out-choke the Chargers, it's the Vikings)

    Green Bay (Why not?)

Jacksonville (Houston isn't good at all)

Miami (These Fish will fly past the Phony Ponies)

Cleveland (After that Monday Night fiasco/crapfest, the Browns need a weak foe)

Buffalo (Last week was a fluke for the Commies... not getting that this week)

Baltimore (About as clear cut a game you'll see this week)

New England (The Jets need to find someone other then Wilson)

Seattle (Poor Bryce Young... they'll need a spatula to get him off the Lumen Field turf)

Kansas City (Okay, who bought the hype on the Bears? I want names so I can tell them "I told you so")

Dallas (Ever see a buzz saw go through a human body? That's what the Cowboys will do to the Cardinals)

Pittsburgh (What that fiasco did was prove to everyone that the Steel Curtain is back)

Philadelphia (It's midnight for the Buccaneers)

LA Rams (Without Burrow, this kitty won't go meow)

  4. Philadelphia (Yeah, the Vikings don't exactly seem that good after last week)

Cincinnati (Nice chance for a rebound)

Detroit (I have a feeling this might be a long season...)

Houston (Battle of Rookies goes Stroud's way)

Chicago (Last week was a fluke for both teams)

Jacksonville (There might be cracks in the armor of the champs)

Green Bay (The Love Era continues to impress)

Buffalo (time to wash the stench of Monday Night out)

LA Chargers (The Titans are Toast)

    San Francisco (Could be close...)

Arizona (After last week, the Cardinals might be able to win a game)

Dallas (Yeah, this one lost a lot luster)

Washington (Broncos Country, let's ride... the short bus!)

Miami (Can anyone cover Tyreek Hill?)

    Carolina (Upset of the Week)
Cleveland (Yeah, last week wasn't great for Pittsburgh)

  5. Kansas City (The title defense begins by ripping the Loins a new one)

Cincinnati (I still don't trust Cleveland)

Baltimore (Houston will make it close, though)

Minnesota (It might be a long season for Tampa Bay fans)

Atlanta (Might be the biggest toss-up game of the week)

    Washington (Cards are trash tier)

Jacksonville (Colts are also trash tier)

San Francisco (Going cross country is never easy, but I think the Niners can handle it)

New Orleans (I also don't trust the Titans)

Las Vegas (Broncos Country, let's fail... again)

    Philadelphia (Eagles are still good)

    Seattle (Bias AHOY!)

Miami (I want to see how the Chargers find new ways to Charger it)

Chicago (Now that A-Fraud is in New York, there will be reversal of fortune)

Dallas (It's not January, so the Cowboys can't choke yet)

    Buffalo (A-Fraud, welcome to hell...)

I didn't even realize this was Villanova's conference, but you're not splitting up Villanova and Delaware.  Not like they're Ohio State and Michigan, but there's a rivalry and lots of grads of each in the same area.

Well, this is a example of what they should do... my idea also includes an eight game conference schedule where there is one protected crossover game. Villanova and Delaware would be a protected crossover game.

This could also lead to another scenario that sees America East starting up football. Four of their schools (Albany, Bryant, Maine and New Hampshire) are in the proposed New England Division. All they would need to do in order to start football is to add in Rhode Island and Villanova (you might want to throw in Robert Morris as well for this since the Big South is all but done for football wise)

As for Stony Brook and Delaware, they would join their CAA brethren in a ten team conference.

So, it ends up like this:

America East - Albany, Bryant, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Robert Morris, Villanova

Coastal Athletic Association - Campbell, Delaware, Elon, Hampton, Monmouth, North Carolina A&T, Richmond, Stony Brook, Towson, William and Mary

A bit off-topic from the P5, I mean soon-to-be P3, FBS chaos; Bryant football (currently in the Big South for that sport) will move to the CAA, to give that conference on that sport an even membership amount of 16

    https://caasports.com/news/2023/8/9/caa-football-welcomes-bryant-university-as-its-newest-member-in-2024.aspx

Bryant will still compete for other sports in the NFB-based America East Conference (after spending about 14 seasons in the NEC since joining D-I from D-II).

    Already mentioned it.

I think at this point, the CAA needs to go to two divisions and have each division winner earn an automatic bid to the FCS Playoffs.

    The divisions? Well, that's simple...

New England Division - Albany, Bryant, Maine, Monmouth, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Stony Brook and Villanova

Mid-Atlantic Division - Campbell, Delaware, Elon, Hampton, North Carolina A&T, Richmond, Towson and William & Mary

  8. What happened this early morning is basically a great example of the Women's team just mailing it in after that win over Vietnam.

You would think that the two time defending champions would be playing at a higher level now then ever before. With the talent gap shrinking minute by minute, you can't afford to half ass it against better teams.

Now, they have the next four years to lick their wounds and figure out how to get that winning mentality back.
