I think most of us were--not because of anything against the Chiefs (except all the overnight frontrunner who suddenly decided they've been Chiefs fans their whole lives and don't even know where Arrowhead Stadium is, but whatevs), but because of the Cinderella arc the Browns were on, and if not for that non-call on Danie--y'all know the one--they would've won that. Instead they lost by five.

But we'll see if they can run it back this season. I for one am rooting for them.

As a Browns fan, I'm rooting for them too. That being said, the Browns will go 9-8 and miss the playoffs. You heard it here first. 😎

You don't need two years of lead time to rebrand.

At least not from the uniform and logo angle. If Dan Synder came to these here boards and started a thread asking for ideas, he'd have at minimum 10 viable options within 24 hours. (Not counting the ones already here) And they'd all probably be better than whatever bull-:censored: the hacks in Beaverton would come up with.

    Viva la coceptos seccion! 🙃

Wasn't so long ago but feels almost out of body at this point.

I call it the 2020 effect. 2020 makes things that happened six months ago feel like they happened 6 years ago. I just celebrated an insignificant anniversary of something that took place on July 11, 2020. It feels like that little event took place five years ago. 2020 really knocked us off our time axis or whatever you want to call it. I've been around a long time and I can't remember a year that has as much of a "before and after" feel. Even 2001 never felt like this.

Since I'm here, the new Rams jerseys are pretty solid. Nothing to write home about, but it could have been a lot worse. I give them a 7.

Especially when you consider that the Yankees' spring training/low-A stadium is in a better location in the Tampa Bay market than the Trop.

Everything is in a better location than Tropicana Sam's Club. Awful stadium, awful location. Honestly, I'm surprised it's worked as well as it has and that ain't saying much. That being said, as I've stated numerous times on these here boards and elsewhere (like the official podcast of CCSLC)  baseball will never work in Florida. You can build all the stadiums you want wherever you want, but it won't matter.  The only thing dumber than putting a team in Florida was putting two teams in Florida.

Like any good business, we lose money on it!  Consistently!

I shudder to think about how much money the four of us have dumped into this thing over 9 years. We've been in the red since day one. We're still in the red on appx. day 3,000.

    How is BASS allowed though?

FWIW, over the nine years we've been doing BASS, I've done multiple podcasts unrelated to CCSLC as have my co-hosts. We've never promoted them here because they have nothing to do with CCSLC. BASS is hosted entirely by CCSLC members and it's very CCSLC-centric. BASS is also born of a podcast that was the original official podcast of these here boards, the Logocast. Do we have listeners outside CCSLC? Yes, but BASS is a podcast that is produced by CCSLC members for CCSLC members. Anything past that is just icing on the cake.

All that being said, I'd be willing to give your show a listen. If it's well produced, has good sound quality, and is engaging, I'd be happy to help you promote it via BASS on our non-CCSLC outlets. Frankly, my biggest concern is that you'll be like most people who decide they want to do a podcast. You'll do a show or two , realize how much work it really is, and bail on it. Doing a show for 9 years isn't as easy as it looks. Trust us on that.

    Hope that helps.

I wonder whether the struggle women journalists had in being taken seriously in the locker room over the years has people fearful of taking away that hard-earned access. I'm thinking of that terrible 1990 Patriots team where the guy was waving his dick in a reporter's face or something. Women shouldn't have to deal with that, men shouldn't have to, and the players should be able to have peace and privacy in what's essentially a really big bathroom.

The access would still remain equal. We'd just lose the dick waving. I'd call that a win all around.

After COVID-19, Should Reporters Remain Barred from Locker Rooms? Making the Case for ‘Yes’

    https://www.crossingbroad.com/2021/05/after-covid-19-should-reporters-remain-barred-from-locker-rooms-making-the-case-for-yes.html

I clicked on the headline expecting to vehemently disagree with the author, but I actually think he may be on to something.  It's kinda weird that reporters are in a locker room and talking to dudes who just wrapped a towel around their balls or are seconds removed from some major-emotional moment.  I'm not sure I'm down with a full-Zoom world (and that's not what he's suggesting) but I think it's fair to ask if locker-room access is really needed.

It's not. I spent a few years covering games in MiLB, the IHL, and NCAA Football and Basketball. The absolute worst thing about the job was going into the clubhouse right after the game ended. The team doesn't want you there, odds are that you're not going to get any worthwhile info, and it's about as uncomfortable a situation as I've ever been in. The same players who were totally cool with talking to you before a game hated your guts after a game.

Being in the locker room right after a game is straight up weird. I never got used to it and I've never understood why sports writers think it's so important. The player who hits the walk off HR or scores the game winning TD isn't going to forget all about it 30 minutes after the game. If anything, they're more likely to give better quotes if you give them a little space. FWIW, the best post game interview I ever got was with Syracuse Crunch goalie, Mike Fountain. It took place in the parking garage a good hour after the game was over. I'd bet anything that he would not have been as friendly or accommodating if he'd had to answer my questions right after he got out of the shower.

I wonder if any team in any sport drafted 2 people with the same name.

Jets draft UNC RB Michael Carter and Duke DB Michael Carter II.

The MLB draft has like 75 rounds so I'd say the odds are decent that it's happened at least once in all these years.

Ok, so there may have already been a question asking this, but i do not really wanna read 117 pages of people asking the mods to ban someone, so i’ll just ask here. Do we need to make the logos ourselves, or can we use others logos with permison or credit to others? Also can we just straight up use clipart?

You need to be a little more specific. What are you using the logos for? Concepts? Fantasy sports?

They could put mics on a literal chicken and pig and it wouldn't make a difference in Super Bowl ratings.

While I hate TNF, at least I'll be able to watch it if it's on Amazon and not the dumb af NFLN.

TNF is perfect for your extra point gorilla idea. Mic him up and put him in.

I've never had reason to look at Toledo on a map before, but, looking at it now, it's a border city to Canada, so that's not a surprise at all. Obviously, it's not like transmission signals run into an invisible barrier at the border, so CBC and other Canadian networks finding their way onto US television in locations near the border, and vice versa as well for American networks in Canada, is one of those little perks to living near the border, if you're interested in what those networks have to show and if they have anything that otherwise doesn't air on US networks.

This little fact didn't go unacknowledged by one of hockey's most famous broadcasters:

      Hide contents

Toledo is on the border of Michigan. Canada is a good 60 miles north of us. 😎 Anyway, we didn't get CBC over the air. CBC was carried on our local cable system. Apparently, our cable system made the choice to carry CBC Channel 9. I can't remember if the over the air signal out of Windsor was strong enough to pick up in Toledo. I'm sure Detroit and Windsor had the on-air carry over you referred to. In fact, when I was in grade school, the most popular radio station around was 800 AM CKLW out of Windsor. It was what us radio people call a "flamethrower." Its signal was so strong that it was clear as a bell throughout most of Ohio. Even though it broadcast out of Canada, CKLW was positioned as a Detroit station at the time. It was the undisputed champion of Top 40 radio. Today, it's a full on Canadian talk station and I'm pretty sure the signal was either turned down or redirected towards Canada because we can barely pick it up these days.

EDIT: Speaking of flamethrower radio stations. Last week, I was listening to WTAM 1100 out of Cleveland - while I was driving in Spring Hill, FL which is 1060 miles from Cleveland. 50,000 watts and a clear channel will do some distance on AM radio.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's maddening that the NHL never figured out a way to syndicate Hockey Night in Canada in the United States, especially in the late '80s and early '90s when so much of cable television here was just cheap crap from Canada. Yes, it would have been selling mostly Toronto Maple Leafs games to an American audience, but it's still the league's weekly showcase that just never existed in America, and the other three leagues had no issue flowing south to north. That failure stands out to me more than the SportsChannel deal, which was a bad bet but not the embarrassment of retreating to the Outdoor Life Network, nor the flagship broadcast not existing for most of the league's footprint.

FWIW, in Toledo back in the 80's, we had CBC on our cable package. (It may still be there, I don't know)  I cut my hockey teeth on Hockey Night in Canada. If Toledo, Ohio managed to find a way to carry CBC, I have to think it would have been easy enough to pull it off in other markets.

As pointed out by @infrared41 the ones who are happiest with WFT are the ones that can still swap out Football Team for the old name that they didn't want changed.

As I've said many times on (cheap plug alert) Basically a Sports Show*, I firmly believe that Dan Snyder will stick with WFT for just that reason. Some of the fans will be happy because they can still use the old name (and :censored: them) while others will be happy simply because they won't have to deal with a forced and most likely stupid replacement name. It's going to take a good long while to flush the old Washington name from the collective conscience of the fan base. Even fans who probably knew it was wrong still freely used the old name. Staying with WFT is the easiest and least "they'll always be the foreskins to me" way out for Dan Snyder. That or move the franchise to a different city and do a complete makeover.
