  1. In summary then, a town so in debt that it is 31 policemen and a whole fire station short of what it should have has voted to continue to pump money into a hockey franchise, in order that they can be anchor tenant on, and therefore 'save', a strip mall which is currently failing even with them there.

FWIW Westgate had its best performance during the lockouts. Probably because visitors weren't pissing their money away on discounted hockey tickets and vending.

  2. So the first a guy on the council knew about the leasing of City Hall was when he read it in the paper. How screwed are their priorities down there?

In modest defense, the school district of Peoria, Illinois was in talks with Wal Mart to sell the city stadium grounds to Wal Mart for well over a year before anyone else caught wind of it. So councilmembers can be out of the loop a bit.

  3. I was going to leave during the financial discussions, but good God, am I glad I stayed. This is fantastic.

Umm, do or do not the Cardinals kinda sorta pump in anything into the Glendale economy? Just uhh floating that out there with this circus tonight

University of Phoenix stadium is actually state land/project. So technically/directly, no.

Yes, but it is across a parking lot from Westgate.

  4. Welp, RSE invoked the firefighters and is dropping random numbers to indicate the team will be a financial success. If the council folds on the out clause issue they should be executed for gross public malfeasance.

Why would they invoke the firefighters? And which ones did they invoke. Invoking Glendale's is a bad move because they'll take even bigger cuts WITH the team than they will without it, the city's own analysis backs that. And if they brought up the 19 who died they should be dragged out of that meeting and beaten.

Well I hope you have a stick handy because its the latter.

Are you kidding me? What a bunch of no class :censored:tards. What was the context they brought them up, not that ANY is acceptable when they're begging to suck money from the public teat.

    To provide convenient crocodile tears.

We seem to be relying a lot on parking fees here. It's a good thing I think public transportation is illegal in Arizona, or if it isn't Glendale's too broke to build a public transportation system.

  6. I will say this. If the NHL goes to Seattle, it is imperative for the league to get control of a hypothetical new arena and then absolutely refuse to give a lease to an NBA team. A Sonics revival is not in its best interests.

Not possible. The hypothetical arena is being built by the guys trying to bring the NBA to Seattle. Hockey is always going to be a secondary consideration even with a team at Key Arena. That said a secondary consideration Coyotes in Seattle are better than the no consideration Coyotes in Glendale.

No, not really. I'd rather the NHL not be a catspaw for some effort to secure a basketball team.

You say that like the NHL hadn't sacrificed its dignity long ago.

The NHL still has more shreds than the Arena League. Talk with them.

They'll be run out of the city by year 3 in that case.

They'll be run out of town anyway. This way they have a fighting chance.
