I really hope San Diego finally has their identity and sticks with brown and yellow.

Yeah me too. For years I kept saying on this board for the Friars to bring back the Taco Bell look. The navy and orange they had in the 90's was fine, but the blue color reminded me too much of the Dodgers.

BTW, it may be about a month before I reveal the next set of Russell Athletic updates for USFL teams, since it takes just under a month for me to simulate an entire season (with several posts dedicated to off-season moves), but I can say that the next teams up on the RA agenda are Denver, Orlando and Memphis.  How big or how small with the changes be?

I honestly didn't think the swap of the stripe colors was too noticeable.

Denver: I'd find a way to incorporate mountains into the Gold's look.

Orlando: A name change from Renegades to Galaxy could compensate for the absence of Frankfurt.

Memphis: I'd find a new color scheme so that they don't look too much like the Bandits.

I really like these and in my mind better than their real life uniforms. Simply by reversing the color logic on the jersey . Genius! This thread is making me miss the league again for the billionth time. Just when I thought i was almost over it ;)

    I agree with you.

XFL and CFL teams could play an interleague championship game?  And interleague games during their season?  I would think the necessary schedule shift for one of the leagues would make the idea a non-starter, but at least some people are thinking about it.

    https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/04/12/xfl-cfl-champions-could-meet/

That would be nice, but how would the CFL be accommodated given the current situation?

Expect some minor changes for the late 80’s as Russell and Champion are the main uni providers, but once Nike gets into the game, all bets are off, including logo changes.

I really don’t expect to change away from USFL team identities unless a team is relocated and another takes it’s place, like we see with Chicago.

And just how the CFL would move into the USA will be a big difference in a world with the USFL in place.  The WLAF may also be dead in the water as the NFL cannot waste time on a d-league while they lose 30%-50% of top tier rookies to the USFL every year.

Reebok might be a good uniform partner in the 1990's.

Is there a chance we'll see logos on the front of the jerseys like the WLAF did?

Just as an early tease, two USFL teams will get new uniforms between the 1988 and 1989 seasons, with one of the two getting a new logo as well.

Nice to hear. I look forward to seeing the new looks.

well i started making court concepts 2 years ago and originally used this knicks court template and obviously edited it https://i.pinimg.com/originals/97/d5/d1/97d5d1b694764ef305a718827f23f9ab.png then edited the edits and over time the lines got thicker cause of the paint bucket tool i used. and i've kinda recreated my own template. i could send it to you if you want

Yes please send me the template.

  8. I love the use of the blue and green.

I think the San Antonio Riders (WLAF) branding could be used for another Texas squad. It's too good not to use in my opinion. Maybe for the Houston Texans if the Oilers leave in your timeline?

    Do you mean like this?

    spacer.png

    Yeah, like that.

Now for branding ideas I'd like to suggest...

Cincinnati or Charlotte would be great places for the London Monarchs' brand.

Barcelona Dragons: Maybe Seattle like in the new XFL? Or St. Louis if the Cards move to Arizona? How about Anaheim?

Frankfurt Galaxy: Maybe in Las Vegas for Area 51? Or New Mexico for Roswell?

Minnesota Pike would be a good name without the "Fighting" part in the name.

The NY/NJ Knights chess piece can pretty much go anywhere. Kansas City maybe?

Arizona Rattlers brand? Albuquerque or Vegas.

Scottish Claymores sword logo...Not so sure. Maybe it can be a secondary logo for whomever uses the Knights' chess piece? Or a 90's version of the Battle Hawks? Or an earlier Tennessee Titans squad? Maybe an Omaha squad?

LA Express...maybe new ownership comes in and changes the name to the Avengers?

Raleigh-Durham Skyhawks logo: Could be repurposed for a team where the Air Force has a huge presence. Or maybe Paramount decides to cash in on Top Gun?

Amsterdam Admirals logo: San Diego or Norfolk/Hampton Roads/Virginia Beach.

Orlando Predators scratch logo: Maybe it could be a secondary for the Michigan Panthers?

Unused Jacksonville Jaguars logo: Mexico City if the USFL decides to go global? Or maybe LA if the Express decide to change their name.

Birmingham Barracudas logo: Maybe San Diego if the Admirals are in VA. Or if one of the Florida teams undergo an ownership change, like maybe Richard DeVos, Disney or MCA/Universal buying the Orlando Renegades?

Shreveport Pirates: Could go to Charlotte and become the Carolina Corsairs?

Sacramento Surge: Keep in SAC or maybe Seattle if the Oakland Invaders claim territorial rights to SAC.

Sacramento Gold Miners pickaxe: Maybe a secondary for the Denver Gold?

Ohio Glory eagle logo: Maybe a rebrand for the Baltimore Blitz or Washington Federals in the Nineties?

The one team I could see doing Purple and Teal would be the Oakland Invaders, because the blue and gold, along with the lightning bolt logo, could've easily been the San Diego Chargers in an alternate reality.

Rhein Fire logo: Atlanta or Indianapolis maybe?

  10. January 31, 1988: Washington beats Denver in Super Bowl XXII, played literally the day after I was born.

March 25, 1991: The first HelmetCam game.

December 24, 1994: Chargers beat the Steelers at the Murph to qualify for a first round bye.

June 23, 1996: Scottish Claymores trounce the Frankfurt Galaxy in the 1996 World Bowl. Later that night, Stone Cold Steve Austin defeated Jake the Snake at King of the Ring.

October 14, 1998: Padres beat the Braves to advance to the World Series.

August 6, 1999: Tony Gwynn got his 3000th hit against the Montreal Expos (Google it, kids).

January 30, 2000: Arena Football superstar Kurt Warner named Super Bowl XXXIV MVP.

June 19, 2000: Kobe and Shaq's first ring.

June 13, 2014: Kings beat the Rangers to win the Stanley Cup.

November 2, 2016: Cubs win the World Series...finally.

February 4, 2018: Cue the Rocky theme song.

June 2019: Just a few days apart, the Toronto Raptors and St. Louis Blues win their first rings in their respective sports. (Play Gloria!)

February 2, 2020: Chiefs' first Super Bowl ring since the debuts of Scooby Doo, Monty Python and Sesame Street.

July 30, 2020: The return of the NBA after the suspension of the season the previous Spring.

Nothing can really top January 15, 1995 when I rooted for the Chargers.

  11. Some rough ideas for Gridby.

    Rough outline of the rules:
    - Roster size: 14 to 15 on the field plus enough interchange players for a 22-25 man roster.
    - Teams made up of Goalies, Backs, Midfielders and Forwards.
    - 4 20 minute quarters or 2 35 minute halves.
    - Game starts with the referee spiking the ball at midfield.
    - Ball can be advanced through handball (Aussie), kick (Gaelic) or pass (American).
    - Six tackles needed to gain possession.
    - Goalie can inbound to a teammate after the opposing team scores.
    - Direction of attack determined by coin toss.
    - Scores after the siren will count.
    - Field divided into three zones: Defensive, Midfield, Attack.
    - Players must stay within the zones corresponding to their position on the field.

    Free kicks:
    - If the defending team puts the ball out of its own end line, the attacking team get a free kick.
    - Attacking team can also be awarded a free kick if a defensive foul occurs in the attack zone.
    - If a player from either team steps out of his designated zone and called offsides, a free kick is awarded to the opposing team.

    Marks:
    - Pass or kick must travel more than 15 yards for a mark to count.
    - Only 6 marks are allowed per possession.
    - Seventh mark results in a free kick for the opponent.
    - Spoiling the mark: Opponents can try to swat or intercept the pass attempt.

Not really sure if this belongs here, but I don't know where else it would.

    Would the NCAA consider enacting an anti-Confederacy themed nickname policy, similar to the one involving Native themed nicknames? As far as I can tell it would only effect a few schools;

Washington & Lee Generals - named for General Washington, but also General Lee (This ones kinda iffy)

    Ole Miss Rebels

    UNLV Rebels

Millsaps Majors - in honor of Confederate Major Reuben Millsaps

The ruling could also be expanded to school names, which would knock out a few more.

UNLV has had controversy over their Rebel branding for decades.
