Team #21 and probably the laziest relocation in the UAXF...

    MILWAUKEE KNIGHTS
    spacer.png

Only a couple of cosmetic changes and changing the silver to a silverish green is not what we call major but for the once former NY/NJ Knights of the WLAF... shunted to Madison, Wisconsin to play in Badger stadium is not the bestest of plans.

I would've liked Wisconsin Knights as a play on Wisconsinites.

  2. Okay, so the Yotes live to fight another day, right?

Even with today's developments, I'd like someone to explain how taking the Yotes out of Arizona will be different from the following:

    - The Braves leaving Boston in 1953.

    - The Lakers leaving Minneapolis in 1960.

    - The Colts leaving Baltimore in 1984.

    - The Nordiques leaving Quebec in 1995.

    - The Browns leaving Cleveland in 1995.

    - The Oilers leaving Houston in 1996.

    - The Whalers leaving Hartford in 1997.

    - The Expos leaving Montreal in 2004.

    - The Sonics leaving Seattle in 2008.

    - The Rams coming back to LA in 2016.

Do you really want to deal with Arizonans suddenly becoming nostalgic for the Yotes if they leave? You want Arizonans to be butthurt at Bettman?

Thanks for the suggestions.  I am still on the fence over whether my version of the USFL will ever grow beyond 24 teams.  The more teams I add the more work it takes to simulate each week and each offseason.  28 is the next size up, and that creates the awkward 5-4-5 alignment in each conference.   Hard enough figuring out how to handle 4 divisions of 6 teams when it comes to schedules without having different-sized teams.

That said, I do expect some relocation, and perhaps some rebranding, as we move into the 2000's.   Stadium issues are always a possibility, as are cities trying to get into the USFL clubhouse.   I already have one move planned, as well as a rebrand, so we shall see if more happens.

And, I am just about to kick off 1995, so the new teams will be in action.  You can check out my site to see just who ended up becoming the first members of the Atlanta Fire, Ohio Glory, Seattle Dragons, and the reborn LA Express.    I am also working myself up to designing a new "mannequin" based uniform template where you can see the uni's as worn by the players instead of flat design schematics.  Not sure how long that will take, but once I have the template ready, I will share that along with new images for all teams.

For 28 teams, you can just have what the NFL did from 1978 until 1994 and have the fifth place teams in each conference play each other twice. Or, you can go straight to 30 teams if you want more balance.

As far as players go, I was interested to see if Bill Goldberg played in the USFL before pursuing wrestling. Same for Dwayne Johnson, the Miami (FL) linebacker. Other players I'm curious about this year are Brad Johnson, Keith Traylor, Siran Stacy, Will Furrer, Casey Weldon, Paul Justin and Mario Bailey. Ron Carpenter, who was a defensive back for Amsterdam in NFLE in '95 is another player I was hoping to see in the USFL in '95.

Wow. If players actually go through with this, that’s going to majorly suck. It’s also seems somewhat unfair to Texas teams, punishing them for where they are located. I know free agent deterring happens to small markets, but Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio? Yikes.

And Austin too if you count MLS.

Hey all,   two questions to crowdsource some of my next moves.

    1. Alternate uniforms:  Using only current logos in this USFL atl history, what alt uniforms would you imagine?

Portland Thunder with a navy jersey?

Denver Gold with a metallic gold helmet?

Oakland Invaders with a "Salute to the Air Force" uniform?

    2.  You saw that I am seeking to bring  the Stars logo out of the 80's.  Are there other logos that you think would never have

remained unchanged from the mid-80's into the 2000's, a la Bucco Bruce, Patriot Pat, or the Atlanta Falcon logo?

Are there any that need to be reimagined for the late 1990's or early 2000's?

    1) Alternate Uniforms:

    - Red pants for the Generals on the road.

    - Light blue jersey for the Michigan Panthers.

    2) Overhauls:

    - Arizona Wranglers (Burgundy and teal, then go back to the AZ flag colors later)

    - Tampa Bay Bandits

    - Baltimore Blitz (Maryland flag colors?)

    - Birmingham Stallions (Maybe a more aggressive horse)

    - Houston Gamblers

    - Orlando Renegades (Change to Galaxy or Sorcerers?)

While I understand why players wanted the sleeves shorter, I hate the look.  Some in recent years looked like they were wearing tank tops.  Maybe a solution would be to require short sleeves the length of a man's tshirt, with a stretchy tshirt under the jersey and padding that could have stripes.

The other thing that is really starting to look bad is players wearing essentially bicycle shorts and tights underneath.  Pants should at least cover the knee, as they do in the pic above.  The monchrome unitard is just fugly.

I think the sleeves have gotten shorter because players don't want anything loose that an opponent can grab on to.

And now the final reveal of the 1995 USFL Expansion clubs.  Here are your Atlanta Fire.

I was tempted to add side panels on the jerseys, but opted not to go there (yet?).  The look borrows a lot from the Birmingham Fire of the WLAF, but rather than put flames on the sleeves I opted to use a secondary logo instead.  The helmets are very much the WLAF model, though the colors are slightly different with a more orangey-red instead of a standard red. Using different color sleeves just felt like a typical 90's thing to do and differentiated the team from some of the others.

And besides, it was about time the USFL added a team with an orange jersey.  Seems odd they never had one.

    Awesome grand finale.

By the way, what stadium will the Fire be playing in? Bobby Dodd? Fulton County? or the Georgia Dome?

And as for LA, I will say this, the Monogram Logo will not remain the primary forever.  I have a plan for their new primary.

Can we expect maybe a plane logo as a nod to the LAX airport?
