  1. Thursday or bust for out free $300 million, says Glendale's mayor.

You can almost hear the money being flown in from league headquarters now.

Then again, the mayor hints he could be open to drafting a new deal instead, so this thing could drag on ad infinitum.

Ugh. There you have it. Mayor open to drafting a new deal. I knew that someone we wouldn't get out of this thing.

I don't know if the league would loan him the money. I mean, OITGDNHL, but this would be more-than doubling down on the failure that is the Coyotes. Jamison presumably has no money, so let's say the league gives him $150 million. They know very well that it is impossible to make money on the team, and because he wouldn't be able to pay NHL loans, they would essentially be giving him the franchise for free. We know how much of willing accomplices the owners have been when Bettman said, "trust me, I got this" the past four years, but I think when it comes to giving away the team for free, we would see some Khrushcheving at the next owners' meeting.

  2. 6 days...

Even with this new city council coming in which supposedly will pull the subsidies, I don't think anybody really expects it to happen. We have been ready for these clowns to pack into a Volkwagen and ride off to Winnipeg and now Quebec City for four years now. Yet here they are. Something always comes up. I fully expect Bettman will find pictures of multiple city council members engaging in lude acts with farm animals, keeping this whole thing going. I won't believe the Coyotes are gone until I see a sweaty Bettman give an angry, condescending speech pointing fingers at the people of Quebec and threatening to move the team if they can't sell out the next four-hundred home games in two weeks.

  3. Just out of curiosity, does everyone here that mercilessly flames people for saving money and getting jerseys on eBay, etc, all pay for all the music they listen to?

    I'm aware it's a bit different.

Well, buying a fake jersey is less like downloading and MP3 and more like holding a tape recorder to the radio.

I will never flame someone for buying a jersey second hand. The licencing fees (which lets face it, is the real cost-factor) for MLB/NFL jerseys prices them out of any semblance of a reasonable price range. Besides, I'd rather buy an actual jersey from the Marlins 1993 season on eBay than hope that M&N or Majestic will eventually make a throwback (and probably botch, it too).

There's a line between buying smart and buying knock-offs.

Exactly. I only download from iTunes, but at least I understand downloading music illegally. It is illegal, but at least you are getting the same exact product you would get if you paid for it instead of stealing. However, that is not the case with fake jerseys because you are getting a terrible replication of the good instead of the actual good. It would be like downloading "Crazy Train" and then realizing it was William Hung singing instead of Ozzy Osbourne.

  4. Am I the only one who finds NNOB to be cheap-looking and bad? It reminds me of low-budget high school teams that have to reuse uniforms.

That's one of the few things I agree with you on. The Yankees can keep on not wearing names on their jerseys, but all other jerseys look better with them (including the Red Sox home).

  5. I'm not sure how it's unbalanced. To me, it's *very* balanced:

    White helmet

    Navy shoulders

    Columbia body

    Navy pants

    White socks (with stripes, yes)

    Good bracketing.

But, yeah, lose the navy-topped socks with the navy pants. Leotard look is dumb.

It's unbalanced because the white helmet is by itself, sticking out like a sore thumb. White helmets should always be paired with white pants (except with a white jersey). The helmet isn't tied into anything else with the current look. It's also top-heavy, as the darkest element is the pants. Again, that works with a white jersey, but not with a colored one. Also, white the theoretical white socks would break up the leotard look, I don't know how it would work with the navy pants and columbia tops. Regardless, even if it were to look passable, I don't think it would be better than either the navy or columbia jerseys with white pants.

  6. Eh, close... the navy pants are much better with those, except they'd need all-white socks to complete the look.

(I know you're not supposed to argue things in here, but I'm pretty sure most everyone else hates the navy pants.)

I like them when paired with the white jerseys

Yes, the navy pants would be great with the white jersey if they just used white socks with navy-columbia-navy striping. The columbia jersey with navy pants is their worst look. It's still horribly unbalanced (more than the mono pictured above), it is much more bottom heavy AND it adds the leotard look into it. The columbia jersey would ONLY work with the white pants. But as I said before, the Titans in columbia is played out. They should go back to the SB34 set, just with white socks on the road.

  7. so dont buy a jersey....? what a silly response. Obviously, i'm not buying a jersey, I'm buying a knock off LOL j/k

sometimes you want a little something more then a t-shirt and this provides that option. I'm not worried about it being exacting in design. Its a waste of time to worry about something so trivial.

But again, whats your point ? what are you going to do about it ? who cares if you do ? you posted a picture and typed your "it sucks " diatribe...now what ?

What are you going to do about it ? some people like fakes, some dont. The internet makes mail order 10 million times easier then in the past. Thats all there is to it.

i'm not mocking or trolling anyone here, We are all uniform history enthusiasts. Whats next? another picture of a off center number and your mockery of it ? thrilling....

The thinking appears to be that if enough people mock and castigate counterfeit jerseys in a nasty "Mean Girls" way, that the makers and buyers of said products will change their ways and respect American intellectual property laws.

I'm sure it will work as well as the recording industry's anti-piracy efforts. At first they refused to change their business model too...

Here's the problem with your analogy. If someone downloaded Metallica songs in 2000, they were getting actual Metallica songs, not crappy cover versions of Metallica songs with a chick singing in front of a Casio keyboard. It was still stealing, but at least you were getting the actual product, not a horrendous imitation of it.

Also, nobody was paying anything for songs they illegally downloaded, so it wasn't like them sticking it to Goo Goo Dolls funded the Chinese mafia.

I don't know just how unpopular this is, but the current Falcons logo is terrible. It's a big downgrade from the original. While the original was dated and wonky, at least it had a whimsical factor to it. The current logo took an underwhemling idea to begin with, made is "kewl" and turned out like crap. The horrible, awkwardly positioned claw from the original was replaced with a horrible, awkwardly positioned bear paw. There are too many "SPEED! FIERCE!" lines, and it looks like something out of Batman: The Animated Series. I could have seen sticking with the original logo for continuity, or even just adding some red into it. However, by trying to make the original logo "x-treme", it failed miserably. They should have just gone with an original idea.

  9. I don't usually engage in this thread, but this was too good to pass up on:

A fake Bills Nike jersey with sleeve logos instead of stripes, no front number. Instead a a portrait of the player in the outdated uni, with Photoshops to make the jersey a "Nike" one (which Nike never produced for the Bills).

"I don't think the real Radioactive Man wears a plastic smock with a picture of himself on it."

  10. Yes, the Bengals, Jets and Saints all used the Champions font in the '90s. I associate the Bills and Bengals with that font. The Jets still looked good after changing to a block font (before they changed to the current set), and the Saints' Champion era jerseys weren't very good. However, the Bills and Bengals looked great in that era and I wish both could still wear that font.

  11. Could the numbers from this era look any cheaper? The Champion number font has to be one of the worst ever.

Segueing nicely into an unpopular opinion of mine: I like the Champion number font. It's legible and classic without looking too "blocky".

I love it, too. Should all teams use it? No. Did it look cheap when they made Emmitt Smith replica jerseys in that font? Absolutely. That doesn't mean it's not great for some teams. To me, a kid growing up in the '90s, that font IS the Buffalo Bills. Their jerseys really lost something with Logo Athletic took over and gave them standard block. I wished the new Bills jerseys used that font.

  12. Greatest Hawks uniform of all time. I don't understand why anyone would want to bring back the McDonalds color scheme or the outdated Dominique era jerseys (Face it the tilted numbers/team name sucks.

People want to bring it back because 1) It was currently unique in the NBA, and 2) It's what the Hawks had historically worn. Teams shouldn't just change their colors for the hell of it after wearing them for the past 30-40 years. Also, they went to the most overdone color combos in pro sports. Oh, and colors aside, everything about the current uniforms and logos is really bad.

  13. Personally, I'm particularly worried about how the Cubs will try to "creatively and dynamically" "partner" with the city to renovate their private property. And they'll say the same things, that it's a good investment because of tourism and surrounding businesses and whatever else, but the city doesn't have the money, and the Tribune seemed to take care of its property just fine with their own money. Fortunately, the Ricketts clan is such a bunch of tone-deaf square-state gomers that they can't present a plan to the city without leaving the flash drive with the PowerPoint on it at home. I'd hate to see Chicago raise its sales taxes even more just to build that stupid goddamn "triangle building" the Cubs have wanted for like ten years.

Lest ye forget the falling concrete? Wrigley was in bad, bad shape from years of neglect before the Tribune purchased the team, but it's in such poor shape now that it needs to be fully rebuilt section by section. I mean, sure, the Trib paid to build new bleachers to increase the capacity ($), but their answer to "We are worried people may be killed by concrete falling on their heads" was "Meh. Put up a net". I'm not saying the city should pay to renovate Wrigley, just that the Tribune did not do a commendable upkeep job.

  14. As is, I think they are about a week away from another year being guaranteed, anyway. I was hoping the NHL would use the emergency clause being struck down as a "Well, we tried. See you guys later," but it's clear by now that they aren't very smart.

And why the hell didn't the judge strike down the whole thing? Was Goldwater only challenging the emergency aspect of it this time around? I mean, Glendale's agreement couldn't be more unconstitutional if it required citizens to quarter soldiers.
